• Hugo was raised by his single mother, after his father was arrested before he was born. When he was 7 years old, his stepfather came into his life. Throughout Hugo's childhood, he didn't have many friends, due to being isolated most of the time, and having to babysit his sister. His mom didn't pay much attention to him, only to his sister Rin and her husband. She would often go on vacations for work, traveling often and taking only Rin, leaving Hugo alone with Elliot, where most of the abuse happened. Hugo would often be made fun of in school, for "not taking care of himself" or being dirty, but in reality, his refusal to shower was as a defense mechanism, hoping that if would stop Elliot from touching him.

When Hugo turned 12, his stepfather suggested sending him away, to a rehabilitation camp for kids and teenagers with behavioral issues. He was sent there until he turned 15, and while he was there, he experienced a lot of physical abuse from the counselors, along with more sexual abuse, from counselors and two other campers. He hasn't ever had any therapy to talk about his childhood, due to his mom forbidding it, afraid he'd report Elliot for the abuse.

The neighbors called the cops due to the commotion, and Hugo was arrested and placed in jail. During his trial, his mother, sister, and neighbors testified against him, and he was ultimately tried as guilty, and sent to prison.
