72 Pillars
name: 72 Pillars overview: The 72 Pillars are the 72 noble Devil families that form the aristocratic backbone of Devil society. Named after the 72 demons of the Ars Goetia, each clan was founded by one of the original High-class Devils created from Lilith's body by the original Lucifer. Of the original 72, only 32 active clans remain — 40 were wiped out during the Great War. Each surviving clan holds dominion over territory in the Underworld and is divided into political tiers: Great King (highest), King, Duke, Marquis, Count, and others. clan_abilities: Each surviving clan possesses a unique innate power passed through their bloodline. Notable examples: Bael — Power of Destruction; Phenex — phoenix immortality and fire/wind manipulation; Gremory — inherited Power of Destruction via Bael blood through marriage; Sitri — water and ice manipulation; Agares — time manipulation; Abaddon — the Hole ability (spatial voids); Belial — Worthlessness (ability nullification); Vapula — lion taming. Clan members born without their family's signature power face severe social stigma. political_structure: The 72 Pillars split into competing political factions. The Great King Faction (led by Bael) represents conservative pureblood-supremacist traditionalists. The current Four Satans — all drawn from mid-to-lower Pillar families — are resented by the upper nobility. Zekram Bael (first head of House Bael, first-generation Devil still active) holds more political weight than the current Satans in conservative noble circles. rank_titles: Bael (#1, Great King), Agares (#2, King), Sitri (#12, Prince), Phenex (#37, Marquis), Gremory (#56, Duke), Belial (lower ranking but produced the Rating Game Champion). Rank does not directly reflect combat power — Sairaorg Bael surpasses most Great King nobles in raw strength despite having no clan ability.72 Pillars - Notes
extinction: 40 of the original 72 clans were destroyed in the Great War. Members of extinct clans still exist but carry diluted or mixed blood, and are looked down upon by pure-blood conservatives. The Misteeta Sabnock in Sairaorg's peerage is from an extinct clan — one of the few surviving members of a bloodline the records list as gone. not_all_conservative: Despite the Great King Faction's influence, many Pillar families support the current government. Families who prospered through the Rating Game system — like Gremory — tend toward progressive politics. The civil war split the Pillars along ideological rather than purely rank-based lines. affiliation: All 32 active clans are nominally part of the Three Factions Alliance through the Underworld government, though political loyalty to the Satans vs. the Great King Faction varies. - #2Balance Breaker — How It WorksDisabled

Balance Breaker
name: Balance Breaker overview: The Balance Breaker is the ultimate activation state of a Sacred Gear — the point at which the gear transcends its standard operation and manifests an entirely new, dramatically more powerful form. It is called a Balance Breaker because its power is considered so extreme that it disrupts the balance of forces in the world, hence its initial classification as a forbidden technique by all three factions. standard_balance_breaker: The standard Balance Breaker is the final development stage accessible to any Sacred Gear user willing to push far enough. It manifests as a visually distinct transformation of the gear — armor, domain, weapon array, or other form — that multiplies the user's effective combat power by an extraordinary margin. Most Balance Breakers in the series fall into this category. natural_vs_induced: A Natural Balance Breaker user achieves the state through their own development without external intervention. An Induced Balance Breaker requires an outside trigger — pain, crisis, emotional peak, or direct assistance. Issei's first Balance Breaker in Volume 3 was induced by Rias sacrificing her own vitality to provide the energy. Natural achievers include Tobio Ikuse (who began with Balance Breaker already active), Sairaorg Bael (through pure physical development), and Saji Genshirou (through public declaration of his dream). super_move: Some Balance Breakers have a further activation state — a super move that consumes all remaining power in one application. The most prominent examples are Issei's Longinus Smasher (concentrated Dragon Shots fired simultaneously from both arms in Scale Mail), Vali's Juggernaut Drive (berserker state using past hosts' malice), and Dulio's full Flagello activation. juggernaut_drive: The Juggernaut Drive is not a standard Balance Breaker but a forbidden state specific to the Two Heavenly Dragon gears — fueled by the accumulated hatred of every past host who died without achieving their desire. It dramatically amplifies power at the cost of consciousness and lifespan. Issei rewrote the Juggernaut Drive chant in Volume 10, replacing the past hosts' hatred with his own identity and dream, producing the stable Cardinal Crimson Promotion that replaced it.Balance Breaker - Notes
notable_examples: Cardinal Crimson Promotion (Issei — golden Scale Mail, Cardinal Crimson full output); Divine Dividing Scale Mail (Vali — silver Scale Mail); Twilight Saint Affection (Asia — golden healing aura field with Fafnir armor); Aeon Balor (Gasper — darkness domain deployment); Malebolge Vritra Promotion (Saji — transforms into Prison Dragon); Glory Drag Trooper (Kiba — Dragon Knight army); Flagello di Colori del Arcobaleno (Dulio — color-weather deployment); Absolute Demise Ice Form (Lavinia — absolute-zero ice world deployment). affiliation: Sacred Gear users across all factions. The most significant Balance Breakers in current canon belong to Issei, Vali, Kiba, Saji, Gasper, Dulio, Lavinia, and Cao Cao. - #3Devil Rank Ladder — Low to Super DevilDisabled

Devil Class System
name: Devil Class System overview: Devil society is structured around a rigid class hierarchy that governs political rights, territory ownership, social standing, and access to the Evil Piece system. Class advancement is based on accumulated contract work (Devil's Job), Rating Game performance, and distinguished battle service. The system applies to both Pure-Blood and Reincarnated Devils. class_ladder: - Low-Class: the majority of the Devil population. Performs basic contracts, carries summoning leaflets, fulfills minor human wishes. No territory, no Evil Pieces, no independent institutional standing. - Middle-Class: greater raw power and more complex contract options. Advancement from Low requires a written theory exam and a practical combat test. - High-Class: receives a set of Evil Pieces, their own Underworld territory, and the right to participate in official Rating Games. The threshold at which a Devil becomes a genuine social player. Requires passing both written and combat examinations. - Ultimate-Class: the top echelon of Devil combat capability. Rare individuals of enormous personal power. The current Satans, Grayfia, Tannin, and Roygun Belphegor operate at this level. - Super Devil: beings whose power exceeds even the Ultimate-Class ceiling, making the standard classification system inapplicable. Originally only three: Sirzechs Lucifer, Ajuka Beelzebub, and Rizevim Livan Lucifer. After the Hell Disaster, Issei Hyoudou and Vali Lucifer were officially certified as Super Devils. - Special-Class: a designation created specifically for Issei and Vali to acknowledge their Super Devil status within the formal hierarchy without disrupting existing class structure. advancement_reality: The formal Middle-Class exam is calibrated to what Middle-Class opponents can handle. Issei had been fighting Dragon Kings and God-class beings before taking it. He destroyed the test venue with a single punch. The exam still exists and must be completed.Devil Class System - Notes
pure_blood_vs_reincarnated: Pure-Blood nobility begins at higher default standing due to hereditary rank within the 72 Pillars. A lower-Pillar Pure-Blood from a minor house still carries more baseline social standing than a newly reincarnated Devil regardless of combat power. The tension between inherited rank and demonstrated ability is one of the series' core social conflicts. non_devil_high_class: Beings from outside Devil society — humans, half-breeds, mythology members — do not hold Devil class designations but are ranked equivalently for combat comparison purposes. Issei's peerage members like Xenovia (reincarnated) hold formal High-class Devil status despite coming from the Church. affiliation: System administered by the Four Great Satans and the Underworld government. - #4Devils — Nature, Weaknesses and ContractsDisabled

Devils — Nature, Weaknesses and Contracts
name: Devils — Nature, Weaknesses and Contracts overview: Devils are supernatural beings originating in the Underworld, created by the original Lucifer using the body of his wife Lilith. They have humanoid forms with black bat-like wings (retractable), approximately 10,000-year lifespans, and generate Demonic Power — a magical energy unique to their race. All Devils can fly, enhance their physical attributes, teleport via magic circles, and communicate in any human language through a passive ability called Language. demonic_power: Every Devil generates Demonic Power, but the nature and character of that power is highly individual. Rias Gremory's manifests as the crimson Power of Destruction; Sona Sitri's as water and ice; Grayfia Lucifuge's as precision Maou-class destructive energy. Pure-blood noble families each have a signature power type tied to their bloodline. Reincarnated Devils develop their demonic power through their piece type's enhancement of existing abilities. holy_weakness: Devils are vulnerable to holy power, blessed objects (crucifixes, holy water, the Bible when genuinely faithful), and Holy Swords. Contact with genuinely holy items causes physical pain and internal damage disproportionate to the physical contact — like poison. Holy Swords are particularly lethal. This weakness is maintained by Heaven's administrative systems, currently operated by Gabriel following Michael's sealing. Asia Argento's Twilight Healing is a rare exception — its Sacred Gear classification overrides the standard Holy-Devil antagonism. wing_count: Wing count loosely correlates with power level for pure-blood Devils. The Four Great Satans tend toward six to twelve wings in their full manifested states. Standard pure-blood Devils have two to four. Twelve wings is the maximum observed count and marks beings of supreme power (Sirzechs, Rizevim, Michael). devil_contracts: Devils earn social standing and income through Devil's Job — the contractual system in which Devils fulfill human wishes in exchange for payment (money, objects, or portions of life energy). Each High-class Devil's territory in the Human World has summoning leaflets inserted into mailboxes. Humans who pick them up can summon their assigned Devil. Contract performance accumulates toward class advancement.Devils — Nature, Weaknesses and Contracts Notes
stray_devils: Reincarnated Devils who abandon their masters for selfish desires are classified as Stray Devils. Without their master to stabilize their power, their demonic energy runs out of control and they become a threat. The Underworld takes Stray Devil cases seriously — any Devil who goes Stray is typically killed on sight. Defeating Stray Devils is one of the primary field duties assigned to young Devil peerages managing Human World territory. mixed_heritage: Some Devils, particularly those with Youkai, human, or other mixed heritage, possess ki or mana in addition to or instead of standard demonic power. Akeno's Fallen Angel heritage gives her light-based abilities alongside demonic power. Koneko's Nekoshou heritage gives her Senjutsu-based ki. This mixing of power types is characteristic of reincarnated Devils and mixed-heritage individuals. affiliation: Three Factions Alliance (Underworld). Governed by the Four Great Satans and the 72 Pillars nobility. - #5Dimensional Gap — The Void Between WorldsDisabled

Dimensional Gap
name: Dimensional Gap (Jigen no Sukima) overview: The Dimensional Gap is the infinite void that exists between and around the three primary worlds — the Human World, the Underworld, and Heaven. It is not a world in any conventional sense but a formless, boundless expanse of nothingness that separates all realms from each other. Beings without sufficient power cannot survive in it — the Gap's non-environment actively dismantles physical forms that are not strong enough to persist within it. For those who can survive it, the Gap functions as the primary transit corridor between worlds. residents: Two beings have made the Dimensional Gap their permanent home. Great Red (the True Dragon, Apocalypse Dragon) roams it freely — the Gap is his domain and he has existed within it longer than the current supernatural world order. Ophis (Dragon God of Infinity) was born in the Gap and lived there in absolute solitude for an eternity before Great Red appeared and, through his mere presence as something larger than her silence, drove her out. Her desire to return to that silence was the entire motivation behind founding the Khaos Brigade. cosmological_significance: In High School DxD's cosmology, the world is called Draconic Deus (DxD). The Dimensional Gap surrounds and separates the Human World, Heaven, the Underworld, and all Mythological Worlds from one another. Within the Gap, distance, direction, the laws of physics, space, and time do not apply in any conventional sense. It is the only place in the series where Great Red can be found — and finding him requires either surviving the Gap independently or being brought by someone who can. plot_significance: Rizevim Livan Lucifer's fourth-arc plan was to use Trihexa to kill Great Red, then open the Gap as an invasion route into the parallel world Evie Etoulde. This made the Gap the existential stakes of Volumes 16-21. Rating Game fields are constructed within protected sections of the Gap using dimensional barriers.Dimensional Gap - Notes
evie_etoulde: The parallel world beyond the Dimensional Gap — Evie Etoulde (ExE) — is home to technologically advanced machine-based life-forms whose civilization and power vastly exceed anything in the series' known world. It is the driving threat of the Shin DxD era. Rizevim's invasion plan failed. The Evie Etoulde machines eventually attack through the Gap themselves. issei_connection: When Issei died in Volume 11, Ophis and Great Red used the Gap as the space in which to reconstruct his body — Ophis provided the power and Great Red provided the flesh. This gives Issei's rebuilt body a direct connection to the Gap's two most powerful residents. affiliation: No faction controls the Dimensional Gap. Great Red's presence makes any attempt to control it effectively impossible. - #6Dragon HierarchyDisabled

Dragon Hierarchy
name: Dragon Hierarchy overview: Dragons in High School DxD are divided into distinct power tiers. The hierarchy from lowest to highest is: Normal Dragons → Five Dragon Kings → Evil Dragons (legendary class) → Two Heavenly Dragons → Dragon Gods / True Dragon. Each tier is categorically stronger than the one below — a Dragon King operates at Ultimate-class Devil equivalent, while the Heavenly Dragons can kill Gods and Satans. Dragons as a race did not align with any faction during the Great War and remain fundamentally independent. outrage: Every Dragon — regardless of tier — possesses an Outrage state, activated when someone or something they deeply value is threatened. In Outrage a Dragon's combat output multiplies dramatically beyond their standard ceiling. Fafnir's Outrage when Asia was threatened brought him to near-Heavenly Dragon output from Dragon King baseline. Outrage cannot be controlled — it is a biological survival response. male_female_tendency: Male Dragons naturally form attachments to females of other races. According to Azazel, power and people naturally gather around Dragons — this is why Ddraig's hosts consistently build power centers around themselves without trying. Male Dragons also have intense rivalries with other males and a tendency toward polygamy in their relationships.Dragon Hierarchy - Notes
normal_dragons: The baseline Dragon class. Still extremely dangerous to ordinary beings — it is stated in canon that angering even a Low-class Dragon is a serious mistake. Their primary abilities are elemental breath, physical dominance, flight, and natural aura. Most common Dragons belong here. five_dragon_kings: The five most powerful Dragons below the Heavenly Dragons. Each commands a unique domain of power and operates at Ultimate-class Devil equivalent or above. The five are: Fafnir (Gold Dragon King — golden aura, Outrage state near-Heavenly Dragon level), Tiamat (Dragon Queen — the strongest of the five, secret Rating Game administrator), Vritra (Prison Dragon — sealed across four Sacred Gears implanted in Saji), Midgardsormr (World Serpent — largest Dragon in the series, holds five Pawn pieces in the Azazel Cup), Yu-Long (Mischievous Dragon — arrogant son of the Eastern Dragon God). Tannin was formerly the sixth Dragon King before reincarnating as a Devil. evil_dragons: Legendary Dragons known for extreme destructive power and vicious nature — stated to exceed the Dragon Kings in raw output. Most were sealed or destroyed in antiquity. All were considered extinct before the series began. The three strongest — Crom Cruach, Aži Dahāka, and Apophis — reached Heavenly Dragon-equivalent power levels. Crom Cruach surpassed the Heavenly Dragons through training. Evil Dragons can naturally regenerate if any fragment of their soul remains. two_heavenly_dragons: Ddraig (Welsh Dragon, Red Dragon Emperor) and Albion (Vanishing Dragon, White Dragon Emperor). Born in Wales and England, their endless rivalry disrupted the Great War, forcing a temporary truce among all three factions. Both had their bodies destroyed and souls sealed into Sacred Gears — Boosted Gear and Divine Dividing — by the God of the Bible. Their current hosts are Issei Hyoudou and Vali Lucifer. dragon_gods_and_true_dragon: The highest tier. Great Red (True Dragon, Apocalypse Dragon, Dragon of Dragons / D×D) is the absolute apex of Dragon kind — the physical embodiment of dreams and illusions, residing permanently in the Dimensional Gap. Ophis (Dragon God of Infinity, Uroboros Dragon) holds infinite power in a compact body — her original infinite power was equivalent to Great Red's. Lilith is a clone of Ophis created from extracted power. Issei's body is partially constructed from Great Red's flesh, giving him a unique connection to both the True Dragon class and the Heavenly Dragon class simultaneously. affiliation: Dragons are independent — they do not formally align with any faction. Individual Dragons form contracts or alliances based entirely on personal choice. - #7Evil Piece SystemDisabled

Evil Piece System
name: Evil Piece System (Maou no Koma) overview: The Evil Piece system is a reincarnation mechanism created by Ajuka Beelzebub that allows High-class Devils to convert humans, fallen angels, and other beings into Devils by embedding chess pieces into their bodies. Each High-class Devil (King) receives a set of 15 chess pieces: 1 Queen, 2 Rooks, 2 Knights, 2 Bishops, and 8 Pawns. Each piece type grants the reincarnated Devil specific combat enhancements matching its chess role. A reincarnated Devil's peerage is called their household. creation_purpose: The system was created to solve a demographic catastrophe — the Great War reduced the Devil population so severely that the species faced long-term decline. Without a mechanism to add members through reincarnation the 72 Pillars would have continued shrinking. The Old Satan Faction rejected the system as disgraceful to pure-blood lineage, which contributed directly to the Devil Civil War. piece_types_and_abilities: - Queen: all four ability types simultaneously (Rook + Knight + Bishop + mobility). Costs 9 Pawns. The most powerful single piece. - Rook: immense physical strength and defense. Costs 5 Pawns. - Knight: superhuman speed and mobility. Costs 3 Pawns. - Bishop: dramatically enhanced magical and demonic power output. Costs 3 Pawns. - Pawn: the ability to Promote in enemy territory — temporarily gaining Queen, Rook, Knight, or Bishop abilities. 8 Pawns available. mutation_pieces: Extraordinarily powerful individuals may require multiple pieces for reincarnation — their power exceeds the standard calibration. These over-invested pieces become Mutation Pieces, evolving beyond standard parameters. Issei required all 8 Pawns; Gasper required a Mutation Bishop. Mutation pieces reflect ongoing power development rather than a fixed enhancement. king_piece: The King piece is a banned variant that multiplies a holder's existing power by 10 to 100 times with no categorical limitation. Nine were created before being judged too dangerous and discontinued. All nine were secretly distributed to corrupt Rating Game players and later confiscated following Diehauser Belial's exposure of the scandal in Volume 20.Evil Piece System - Notes
pawn_promotion: Pawns can Promote when entering designated enemy territory during a Rating Game — or with explicit King permission outside of games. Promotion to Queen gives simultaneous access to Rook, Knight, and Bishop abilities. Issei's Triaina system allows him to switch between single-type promotions (Knight for speed, Rook for strength, Bishop for ranged power) rapidly in combat. piece_trade: Pieces can be traded between Kings through a formal ritual — both Kings amplify their auras into a magic circle until the trade completes. Sona traded Bennia Orcus to Issei's peerage in exchange for Issei's remaining Knight piece following the Hell Disaster arc. ajuka_manipulation: As the Evil Piece system's creator, Ajuka Beelzebub can read and rewrite the code in any piece. He installed hidden developmental factors in Issei's pieces for him to discover through growth. He also removed Juggernaut Drive corruption that had been building in them. This ability to directly intervene in piece programming is unique to Beelzebub. affiliation: System administered by Ajuka Beelzebub. Applicable to any High-class Devil with their own territory. - #8Grigori — Fallen Angel OrganizationDisabled

Grigori
name: Grigori (The Watchers of the Children of God) overview: Grigori is the central organization of the Fallen Angels, founded by Azazel after the Great War. Their mandate: locating, protecting, and training Sacred Gear possessors. Grigori operates as a combination of military organization, research institution, and welfare program for Sacred Gear users who have nowhere else to go. It is widely considered the most advanced supernatural research organization in the world. research_capabilities: Grigori developed Artificial Sacred Gears, modification surgery to implant multiple gears into a single host (Vritra's four Sacred Gears into Saji), and a comprehensive archive of all known Sacred Gears and Longinus. They also produced the Light Sword system that Church Exorcists use, bracelets enabling Fallen Angel transformation for hybrid beings, and dimensional space technology (the "baby room" doorknob given to Issei enabling Angel-Devil intimacy without Angels falling from grace). post_azazel: Following Azazel's sealing inside the Isolation Barrier Field, Shemhazai became Governor-General with Baraqiel as Vice-Governor-General. Grigori's continued relevance depends entirely on the quality of its remaining members and its technology advantage — Azazel's final statement acknowledged the Fallen Angels may not survive him as an organization. fallen_angel_nature: Fallen Angels are Angels who fell from grace through the corruption of their emotions — primarily desire and ambition. They possess black wings instead of white and lack the halo of true Angels. Unlike Devils (who are a separate species), Fallen Angels were originally Angels and still carry the light-based power structure. Their defining ability is generating Light Spears — condensed holy light shaped into offensive weapons.Grigori - Notes
baraqiel_role: Baraqiel is the most powerful active Fallen Angel Cadre following Azazel's sealing. His Holy Lightning ability — generating sacred lightning rather than standard light weapons — is unique among Fallen Angels. He is also Akeno Himejima's father, and their eventual reconciliation through the Loki arc is one of the series' most carefully built emotional resolutions. hybrid_beings: Fallen Angel-human hybrids inherit both human Sacred Gear potential and Fallen Angel light abilities. Akeno Himejima is the most prominent example — she spent years refusing to use her Fallen Angel powers before reconciling with her heritage. Her Holy Lightning combines Fallen Angel light with Dragon ki absorbed from proximity to Issei, creating the unique Raikouryuu development. affiliation: Three Factions Alliance. Fallen Angels / Grigori faction. - #9Heaven and AngelsDisabled

Heaven and Angels
name: Heaven and Angels overview: Heaven is the home dimension of the Angels — a seven-level realm of sacred energy maintained by the God of the Bible's administrative systems, now operated by Gabriel following Michael's sealing. Angels are pure beings of holy light whose power derives from genuine faith and sacred authority. The God of the Bible's death has been concealed from humanity because declining faith weakens Heaven's power systems — Angels require the belief structure to remain functional. angel_nature: Angels possess white wings (number indicating power, up to twelve maximum for the Four Great Seraphs), halos, and generate holy light as their primary power. They are vulnerable to demonic power, though less acutely than Devils are to holy energy. An Angel who experiences corrupt emotions falls from grace and becomes a Fallen Angel — this is an irreversible transformation under standard circumstances, hence Michael's development of the "baby room" dimensional space enabling Angels to be intimate without falling. brave_saints: Heaven's version of the Evil Piece system — each Archangel commands a suit of playing cards (Michael: Spades, Gabriel: Hearts, Raphael: Diamonds, Uriel: Clubs) whose members are powerful exorcists and allies ranked by face card value. The King (Joker) of each suit is the most powerful individual in that Archangel's command. Michael's Joker is Dulio Gesualdo, the world's strongest exorcist. post_sealing: Following the sealing of Michael, Raphael, and Uriel inside the Isolation Barrier Field to contain Trihexa, Gabriel became Heaven's leader and assumed control of the Sacred Gear system and the holy effects administrative infrastructure. The Brave Saints peerages of the sealed Seraphs continue operating. baby_room: Michael designed a specific dimensional space — accessible through a modified doorknob — in which an Angel and a Devil can be intimate without the Angel falling from grace. Given to Issei specifically to facilitate his relationship with Irina. Its existence confirms the Angel falling mechanism is administrative rather than absolute — it can be locally suspended within a divinely-consented space.Heaven and Angels - Notes
faith_dependency: As Christianity spread and other religions declined, the Gods of those faiths weakened. Heaven faces the same dynamic — declining belief weakens the Angels' power base. This is a structural vulnerability the God of the Bible's death concealment was designed to address. church_relationship: The Church — as the human institution of Christianity — is Heaven's primary conduit to human faith. Church agents are trained exorcists who operate across the world, many unaware that God died in the Great War. The institution is now effectively run by the Four Great Seraphs in God's name. affiliation: Three Factions Alliance. Angels / Heaven faction. - #10Khaos Brigade and Sub-FactionsDisabled

Khaos Brigade and Sub-Factions
name: Khaos Brigade and Sub-Factions overview: The Khaos Brigade was a coalition of beings from multiple factions united by dissatisfaction with the Three Factions Alliance, with Ophis as its nominal leader. It was never a unified force — it was a collection of groups operating under the same banner for distinct purposes. It has been progressively dismantled across the series. old_satan_faction: Pure-blood Devil loyalists led by descendants of the original Four Great Satans (Katerea Leviathan, Creuserey Asmodeus, Shalba Beelzebub). Goal: restore the original Satans' world-domination ideology. All three leaders were killed across Volumes 4-11. The faction was definitively destroyed in Volume 12 by Ajuka Beelzebub. Ideology: pureblood supremacy — reincarnated Devils are inferior, coexistence with Angels is unacceptable. hero_faction: Humans descended from legendary heroes, led by Cao Cao (True Longinus). The most tactically dangerous sub-group, operating covertly and gathering intelligence on all factions before striking. Goal: prove human Sacred Gear users are superior to supernatural beings. Disbanded after Volume 12; Indra stripped them of their Longinus. Members eventually became D×D allies or neutral parties. qlippoth: Rizevim Livan Lucifer's splinter organization (Volumes 16-21). Goal: revive Trihexa, use it to kill Great Red, invade the parallel world Evie Etoulde through the opened Dimensional Gap. Primary military force: Evil Dragons revived via Sephiroth Graal. Destroyed following Rizevim's death at Fafnir's hands. hidden_khaos_brigade: Remnants of all dissolved sub-factions who continue operating as a dormant terrorist network. They believe D×D's accumulated power makes them the actual threat rather than the defenders. Believed to receive logistical support from the ancient house Nebiros, missing since the Civil War.Khaos Brigade - Notes
vali_team_departure: Vali Lucifer's independent squad was loosely affiliated with the Brigade for access and resources while pursuing their own agenda. They went rogue in Volume 11 and officially departed. From Volume 12 onward they are D×D allies, despite never formally joining the alliance structure. ophis_situation: Ophis's power was stolen by Cao Cao in Volume 11 using Samael's curse, reducing her from infinite to the approximate power of a Dragon King. Rizevim then extracted most of her remaining power to create Lilith. The Ophis currently in the Hyoudou Residence has significantly diminished power compared to her series-opening status, though she remains far beyond ordinary beings. affiliation: Disbanded across Volumes 4-21. Remnants operate as Hidden Khaos Brigade. - #11Kuoh Town — The Main SettingDisabled

Kuoh Town
name: Kuoh Town (Kuō-machi) overview: Kuoh Town is the primary setting of High School DxD — a small Japanese city that serves as the focal point for the supernatural politics of the Three Factions in the modern era. It appears as an ordinary mid-sized Japanese town with residential neighborhoods, a commercial district, parks, and a train station. It was selected as the site of the secret Three Factions peace summit that began the diplomatic process formalized in Volume 4 — its status as the birthplace of the alliance made it simultaneously politically significant and practically neutral ground. devil_territory: Two High-class Devil peerages share management of Kuoh Town. The Gremory Peerage (Rias) handles the southern district; the Sitri Peerage (Sona) handles the northern. Each manages contracts, distributes summoning leaflets, and handles supernatural disturbances within their area. This cooperative dual-peerage management arrangement is unusually harmonious — reflecting the longstanding friendship between Rias and Sona. kuoh_academy: The prestigious private school that the main cast attends, previously an all-female institution that recently became co-ed. Most of the main cast are enrolled here. The Occult Research Club (ORC) is the cover organization for the Gremory Peerage's activities on campus; the Student Council is the cover for the Sitri Peerage. The school's supernatural history extends back to the Cleria Belial incident, revealed in Volume 18. hyoudou_residence: The Hyoudou Residence — Issei's home — is the de facto operational headquarters of the Gremory Peerage and the D×D alliance's informal coordination center. Originally a normal two-story house, it was expanded by Sirzechs overnight into a six-story building with three basement floors. By the Shin DxD era it houses Issei's entire extended family of partners, allies, and residents including Ophis, Lilith, Kunou, Elmenhilde, and visiting parties on a rotating basis.Kuoh Town - Notes
cleria_belial_incident: Kuoh Town's supernatural history includes a suppressed tragedy — Cleria Belial, a High-class Devil from the Belial Clan's branch family, had been assigned to govern the town before Rias. She fell in love with a Church agent named Masaomi Yaegaki. Both the Great King Faction and the Church ordered their executions to maintain the status quo, framing the cover story as a forbidden cross-faction romance. The real reason was that Cleria had discovered the King Piece corruption. This incident directly motivated Diehauser Belial's alliance with Rizevim in Volume 17. oppai_dragon_presence: Issei's Oppai Dragon persona extends Kuoh Town's supernatural significance — local Underworld broadcasts reference it, visiting supernatural entities know of it, and Oppai Dragon merchandise appears throughout the town's supernatural-facing establishments. affiliation: Jointly administered by Gremory and Sitri peerages. The Hyoudou Residence is under Issei Hyoudou's household authority. - #12Longinus — The Thirteen God-KillersDisabled

Longinus
name: Longinus (Kamimetsugu — Tools that Destroy God) overview: The Longinus are the thirteen Sacred Gears of such extraordinary power that they are theoretically capable of killing Gods. Every Longinus is completely unique — unlike standard Sacred Gears of which multiple copies exist, only one of each Longinus may exist at any time in the world. Each Longinus is an impossible convergence of abilities that should not logically coexist — the combination produces something categorically beyond any single ability's potential. tier_ranking: Not all Longinus are equal. The four highest-tier — True Longinus, Boosted Gear, Divine Dividing, and Dimension Lost — are treated as a separate subclass. The True Longinus is explicitly the strongest. The Boosted Gear and Divine Dividing are unique even within the class because they house Heavenly Dragon consciousness rather than concepts or powers. known_holders_current: Issei Hyoudou (Boosted Gear), Vali Lucifer (Divine Dividing), Cao Cao (True Longinus — post-Hero Faction stripped by Indra, later returned), Georg (Dimension Lost), Tobio Ikuse (Night Celestial Slash Dogs — Longinus tier), Lavinia Reni (Absolute Demise), Dulio Gesualdo (Zenith Tempest), Gasper Vladi (Aeon Balor — evolved), Sairaorg Bael (Regulus Nemea — tamed), Ingvild Leviathan (Nereid Kyrie), Valerie Tepes (Sephiroth Graal), Walburga (Incinerate Anthem), Leonardo (Annihilation Maker — surrendered). transfer_rule: When a Longinus user dies, the gear transfers to a new host at birth. The new host inherits the gear in its current development state. This makes killing Longinus users a strategically ineffective threat-elimination method — the threat simply transfers.Longinus - Notes
true_longinus_note: The True Longinus — the spear that pierced Christ — is the most powerful of the thirteen. Its ultimate activation Truth Idea was not fully deployed for Cao Cao in Volume 12 because the will within the spear chose Issei's dream instead of Cao Cao's ambition. This implies Longinus have some evaluative function regarding their hosts' worthiness. annihilation_maker_note: Leonardo's Annihilation Maker — the ultimate creation-type Longinus — creates monsters of unlimited variety and scale from imagination. At his developmental level the monsters were already world-threatening. A fully mature adult user could theoretically create monsters capable of planetary destruction. Leonardo is currently in the Realm of the Dead studying Grim Reaper magic under Georg. nereid_kyrie_note: Ingvild Leviathan's Nereid Kyrie uses singing as its activation medium — her voice can suppress or strengthen Dragons depending on direction. As a direct Leviathan descendant her gear carries specific resonance with Dragon Kings that no other Longinus can replicate. affiliation: Longinus are distributed across all factions — Devils, Angels, humans, reincarnated Devils. No single faction controls the majority of current Longinus. - #13Mythology System and GodsDisabled

Mythology System and Gods
name: Mythology System and Gods overview: High School DxD's world contains multiple active mythological pantheons coexisting alongside the Three Factions — Norse, Greek, Hindu, Celtic, Buddhist, Shinto, and others all have genuine supernatural presence. Each mythology's Gods are real, powerful, and typically confined to their own mythological domain. They range from Chief God-class (Odin, Zeus, Indra) to Evil God-class (Loki, Hades). Most Gods do not interfere in the Three Factions' affairs unless their territory is directly threatened. power_of_gods: Gods operate at roughly Satan-class equivalent power or above at their baseline. The strongest Gods — Shiva, Great Red, Ophis, and the God of the Bible at his peak — are among the most powerful beings in the world. Gods can be killed by sufficiently powerful weapons (including mastered Longinus), by other beings of equivalent power, or eventually weakened by declining belief in their mythology. Most active chief Gods are listed among the top-ten strongest beings alive. god_of_the_bible: The God of the Bible died in the Great War against the original Four Great Satans. He created the Sacred Gear system, the Holy System, the three primary factions, and the universe's fundamental supernatural infrastructure. His death has been concealed from humanity to preserve the faith that keeps Heaven's power systems functional. His will persists within the True Longinus (the spear is called his legacy weapon) but he is definitively dead. how_mythologies_coexist: Each mythology occupies its own dimensional territory — Asgard (Norse), Olympus (Greek), and so on — connected to the Human World and to each other through supernatural transit. These dimensions are temporally separate from the Human World (time flow can differ). The Three Factions do not govern other mythologies but maintain diplomatic relationships. The Azazel Cup opened formal competition between all mythologies for the first time. brave_saints: Heaven's version of the Evil Piece system — each Archangel (Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel) commands a suit of cards (Spades, Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs) whose members are powerful exorcists and angel allies ranked by face card value. Michael's Joker is Dulio Gesualdo, the world's strongest exorcist.Mythology System and Gods - Notes
sealing_events: Multiple chief Gods have sealed themselves in the Isolation Barrier Field to contain Trihexa: Sirzechs, Serafall, Falbium, Azazel, Michael, Raphael, Uriel, Zeus, Poseidon, Odin, Thor, Baldur, and others. The supernatural world is operating under significant leadership vacuums across multiple mythologies simultaneously. hades_antagonist: Hades — God of the Greek Underworld — refused to seal himself and instead formed the Alliance of Hell terrorist group with Erebus, Nyx, Tartarus, and the Persian Evil God Angra Mainyu, targeting Longinus users and mythological leaders. His goal included locating Lilith (wife of the original Lucifer, mother of all Devils) who had been hidden in the depths of Purgatory. indra_manipulation: Indra (Hindu Chief God) operates entirely through manipulation — he arranged for Cao Cao to gather data on the entire supernatural world through the Hero Faction, then stripped the Hero Faction of their Longinus after extracting the useful intelligence. He is considered one of the most politically dangerous active Gods due to his preference for working through others. affiliation: Each mythology is independent. Most are allied with D×D through the Three Factions Alliance framework but retain full autonomy over their own domains. - #14Occult Research Club — Gremory Peerage BaseDisabled

Occult Research Club
name: Occult Research Club (ORC) overview: The Occult Research Club at Kuoh Academy is the official school cover for the Gremory Peerage's operations in the Human World. It is housed in the old school building — a separate structure from the main academy that has been claimed and maintained as the peerage's territory. The club officially investigates paranormal phenomena in the area, meaning the cover is not entirely fabricated — encounters with Stray Devils, Youkai, Fallen Angels, and other entities that the club documents contribute to Rias's official Underworld academic record. club_room_significance: The ORC club room is where the Gremory Peerage gathers for briefings, contract discussions, and daily operations. It is the first space Issei was brought to after his reincarnation in Volume 1 and the setting for many of the series' most important character moments. It contains a summoning circle, reference materials, and the general atmosphere of a room claimed by young adults who make it their own. rost: Rias Gremory (King/President), Akeno Himejima (Queen/Vice-President), Yuuto Kiba (Knight), Koneko Toujou (Rook), Asia Argento (Bishop), Gasper Vladi (Bishop), Xenovia Quarta (Knight), Rossweisse (Rook), Issei Hyoudou (Pawn — all 8 pieces). Ravel Phenex serves as Issei's manager but was not formally Rias's peerage member. post_graduation: After the Gremory Peerage's graduation from Kuoh Academy the club officially passes to Xenovia (who becomes Student Council President), and Issei establishes his own independent company as a High-class Devil. The ORC's function as the primary base of operations transitions to the Hyoudou Residence's operational structure.Occult Research Club - Notes
parallel_to_student_council: The Student Council at Kuoh Academy is the equivalent cover for the Sitri Peerage (Sona Sitri as President, Saji Genshirou as Vice-President). The two clubs cooperate on territorial management and occasionally on supernatural threat response, reflecting the cooperative relationship between Rias and Sona. Their relationship is competitive, warm, and built on genuine mutual respect. club_name_legitimacy: The Occult Research Club name is accurate enough to be functional cover — the Underworld's supernatural phenomena documentation requirement means anything the club investigates counts toward real academic credit. When the Three Factions Alliance was formalized the club's unofficial status as a diplomatic outpost became acknowledged rather than concealed. affiliation: Gremory Peerage. Kuoh Academy official organization. - #15Rating Games — Rules and Azazel CupDisabled

Rating Games
name: Rating Games overview: The Rating Game is a competitive combat system created by Ajuka Beelzebub following the development of the Evil Pieces. Games are used to measure Devil strength and strategic capability, determine social standing in the Underworld, resolve disputes between peerages without open warfare, and serve as the Underworld's primary entertainment institution. Top-ranked players are cultural heroes broadcast live to massive audiences. game_format: Matches take place within sections of the Dimensional Gap protected by barriers, configured to model any desired environment — urban ruins, forests, mountain ranges, artificial structures. Each King commands their peerage servants in a designed combat environment. A King's retirement ends the match. Special rule formats vary: Blitz (emphasis on spectacle), Dice Figure (randomized deployment numbers), Object Break (destroy targets for points), Rampage Ball (score in goal locations). promotion_mechanics: During Rating Games, Pawn-piece holders can Promote when entering designated enemy territory — temporarily gaining Queen, Rook, Knight, or Bishop abilities. Kings can perform Castling with their Rooks (swapping positions). These chess mechanics apply literally, creating tactical considerations that mirror the board game structure they derive from. corruption_scandal: Nine of the Underworld's top-ranked players secretly held illegal King Pieces — power multipliers whose existence was suppressed by old-guard Devils controlling game management for commercial benefit. Games were pre-arranged to protect their investments. Diehauser Belial exposed the scandal via Agreas's broadcast system in Volume 20, destroying the Rating Game's legitimacy and forcing a complete rankings reset. azazel_cup: The Rating Game World Tournament — named for Azazel by the steering committee. Open to participants from all mythologies on equal terms (Devils, Angels, Fallen Angels, Gods, Humans, Youkai). Maximum 16 players per team; team members do not need to be the King's servants; God-class beings count as two pieces. The winning team receives the assembled diplomatic and material support of every participating faction to fulfill as many wishes as possible.Rating Games - Notes
notable_games: Rias vs Riser (Vol.2 — Rias loses, triggers engagement-breaking rescue by Issei). Rias vs Sona (Vol.5 practice game — Sona wins on tactical superiority). Issei vs Sairaorg (Vol.10 — Issei wins after rewriting the Juggernaut Drive chant and fighting from dead-heart state). Rias vs Issei (Azazel Cup main draw — the match featuring Fafnir's Panties Pow Theme as a tactical distraction). affiliation: Rating Games are administered by Tiamat (secret background administrator who intervenes when illegal situations arise mid-match) and the Underworld government's game commission. - #16Sacred Gear SystemDisabled

Sacred Gear System
name: Sacred Gear System overview: Sacred Gears (Seikired Gia) are supernatural items created by the God of the Bible and embedded into the souls of humans or half-humans at birth. They manifest as physical objects — gauntlets, swords, spears, shields, books — and house abilities that far exceed ordinary human capability. Approximately one in every thousand humans is born with a Sacred Gear. They are the God of the Bible's most significant legacy still active in the world — the system continues operating despite his death, now maintained administratively by the Archangel Gabriel. origins: The God of the Bible created the Sacred Gear system to give humanity a fighting chance in a world populated by supernatural beings vastly more powerful than them. Each gear encodes a concept, power, or sealed entity that the user gradually awakens through training, battle, and personal development. The thirteen most powerful — the Longinus — were created with enough potential power to kill Gods. development_stages: A Sacred Gear user begins with basic access to their gear's primary ability. Through sustained use and personal growth, users unlock Subspecies Abilities (unique variations on their gear's concept), and eventually reach Balance Breaker — the gear's ultimate form that manifests an entirely new power state. The rarest development is a Sub-Species Balance Breaker, which diverges from the standard Balance Breaker into a unique evolution driven by the user's individual circumstances. death_and_transfer: When a Sacred Gear user dies, the gear does not disappear — it transfers to a new host at birth. The new host inherits the gear in whatever developmental state it was left in. This is why killing a Longinus user is strategically inefficient: the threat simply reappears in a new generation. artificial_sacred_gears: The Grigori, under Azazel's direction, developed Artificial Sacred Gears — manufactured items that replicate specific Sacred Gear functions. Unlike true Sacred Gears they cannot grow or develop, but they provide non-Sacred Gear users with access to otherwise exclusive powers. Grigori also developed surgical procedures to implant Sacred Gear components directly into a person's body.Sacred Gear System - Notes
piece_interaction: Evil Piece reincarnation can affect Sacred Gear development. Ajuka Beelzebub, as the Evil Piece system's creator, can read and rewrite the code embedded in any piece — he installed hidden developmental growth factors in Issei's pieces in Volume 8 and removed Juggernaut Drive corruption from them in Volume 11. samael_exception: Samael — the Dragon Eater — is a Sacred Gear in name only. It was created by God specifically out of hatred for Dragons and functions as a curse-transmitter rather than a power system. Its poison is lethal to Dragon-affiliated beings including Heavenly Dragon hosts, Dragon Gods, and anyone whose body is partially Dragon-based. It is the one Sacred Gear that operates purely as a weapon with no user-development component. five_newly_evolved: Five additional Sacred Gears reached Longinus-tier through development during or before the series events: Gasper Vladi's Forbidden Balor View evolved into Aeon Balor, Tobio Ikuse's Jin evolved to Longinus-class, and three others reaching equivalent status. The thirteen Longinus are not a closed set — sufficient development by any Sacred Gear can elevate it to God-killing potential. affiliation: Universal — Sacred Gears appear in any human or half-human regardless of religious belief, nationality, or affiliation. They cannot be transferred voluntarily between living users. Longinus Gears cannot be copied or duplicated — only one of each exists at any time. - #17Senjutsu, Touki and YoujutsuDisabled

Senjutsu, Touki and Youjutsu
name: Senjutsu, Touki, and Youjutsu overview: These three ki-based power systems are distinct from Demonic Power and Sacred Gear abilities. They originate from Japan's supernatural traditions and are primarily used by Youkai, the Five Principal Clans, and certain hybrid beings like Koneko Toujou and Kuroka. They can be layered on top of or combined with other power types. senjutsu: Life force / ki manipulation technique. Senjutsu draws on the natural ki flowing through the world and channels it through the practitioner's body to amplify physical abilities, generate destructive force, enable long-range aura sensing (functioning as perception over great distances), heal through ki-sharing, and control the local environment. Advanced Senjutsu use can distort space, cause vegetation to bloom or wither, and create temporal distortions. touki: The externalization of one's life force as a physical aura. Touki serves as armor (reducing damage), a strength multiplier (concentrating life force into strikes), and a speed enhancer. Unlike Senjutsu, Touki can be obtained through extreme physical training alone — no Senjutsu knowledge required. Sairaorg Bael developed such extreme Touki mastery through pure physical training that it made him one of the most powerful Devils of his generation despite having no clan ability and no demonic power. youjutsu: Youkai magic — the supernatural techniques native to Youkai species. Unlike Demonic Power (which is generative) or Senjutsu (which draws on environmental ki), Youjutsu channels Youkai-specific spiritual properties. Each Youkai type has its own Youjutsu tradition: Kitsune use Kitsunebi (fox-fire), Nekomata use cat-spirit techniques, Oni use physical enhancement Youjutsu. nekoshou_advantage: Nekoshou — the rare elite Nekomata subspecies — can master both Senjutsu and Youjutsu simultaneously, placing them categorically above standard Nekomata. Koneko Toujou and Kuroka are both Nekoshou. Kuroka's Youjutsu mastery is so advanced she can develop specific poisons calibrated to a single individual's biological composition.Senjutsu, Touki and Youjutsu - Notes
fatal_flaw_senjutsu: Senjutsu draws on natural ki that carries the accumulated malice and ill will of the world within it. Reckless use can cause the practitioner to absorb this malice and go berserk. This was the central fear around Koneko's Senjutsu use — she believed Kuroka had gone berserk, and suppressed her own ability entirely to prevent it. healing_application: Senjutsu healing works by ki transfer through physical contact, restoring injuries and even lifespan. Akeno's daily ki-transfer healing sessions with Issei had an unintended side effect — she gradually absorbed Dragon ki from sustained proximity. Over time this transformed her Holy Lightning into Raikouryuu — lightning manifesting as eastern Dragon forms — an entirely unplanned development born from sustained contact. sun_wukong_mastery: The First-Generation Sun Wukong has complete Senjutsu mastery — sufficient to extract Samael's Dragon Eater poison from Vali's body (a feat no other being could replicate), revitalize completely exhausted Sacred Gear users with a touch, and perceive what kind of being a person fundamentally is at the ki level. His mastery is described as the ceiling of what Senjutsu can become. affiliation: Five Principal Clans, West and East Youkai Factions, Nekoshou lineage, certain hybrid beings. - #18The Underworld — Geography and SocietyDisabled

The Underworld
name: The Underworld (Hell / Makai) overview: The Underworld is the home dimension of Devils — a vast realm roughly equivalent in size to the Human World but with no oceans, only lakes and rivers crossing an enormous continuous landmass. The sky was originally a permanent purple regardless of time of day until the current Four Great Satans modified the time-flow and created an artificial moon to match the Human World's day-night cycle, accommodating the large number of reincarnated Devils from human backgrounds. geography: Organized into territories corresponding to each noble house's historical holdings. The major cities — Lilith (current capital), Lucifaad (former capital) — are connected by rail infrastructure mirroring human train systems. Development of commercial and entertainment districts in the current era means the Underworld looks in many places like a modernized city under a purple sky. lilith_capital: The modern capital of the Underworld, named after the first woman — the mother of all Devils. It serves as the political, commercial, and cultural center: the four Satans' administrative buildings, Rating Game broadcasting infrastructure, Devil class examination facilities, and the Noble Assembly. Also the location of the Oppai Dragon concert hall and the High-class Devil promotion ceremony venue. territorial_structure: Each of the 72 Pillars holds territory proportional to their rank. Great King houses hold the largest territories with the most developed infrastructure. The Gremory territory is noted for being unusually prosperous for a house ranked 56th — a result of Venelana Gremory's business model of identifying undervalued products from rural areas and developing Underworld markets for them. devil_lifespan: A Devil's total lifespan is approximately 10,000 years, making them effectively immortal by human standards. They maintain their chosen apparent age rather than visibly aging — this is why Venelana Gremory appears the same age as her adult children. The Underworld - Notes
old_capital_lucifaad: Lucifaad was the site of the final battle of the Devil Civil War, where Sirzechs defeated and killed the Old Satan Faction's last leader Bidleid, ending the conflict. The Young Devils Assembly was historically held here — nominally political networking that functioned primarily as a display of Satan-lineage authority over the common nobility. connections: The Underworld is reached from the Human World primarily through magic circles. The Hyoudou Residence has a Gremory family magic circle beneath it serving as the primary entry point for the main cast. The Underworld is also connected through specific fixed gateways in supernatural-significant locations. affiliation: Governed by the Four Great Satans and the Underworld government. Three Factions Alliance
name: Three Factions Alliance overview: The Three Factions (San Daiseiryoku) refers collectively to the Angels of Heaven, the Devils of the Underworld, and the Fallen Angels of the Grigori — the three groups central to the Biblical supernatural world of High School DxD. Their ancient Great War against each other defined the world's power structure for millennia. Their current alliance — formalized in Volume 4 — is the political foundation on which all of D×D's operations rest. the_great_war: Thousands of years before the series, all three factions went to war. The result was mutual annihilation of their leadership: the God of the Bible died in battle, the original Four Great Satans were killed, and Azazel led the Grigori in retreat after enormous losses. All three factions emerged catastrophically weakened. The God's death was concealed from humanity to preserve the faith infrastructure that keeps Heaven functional. kuoh_treaty: Centuries of hostility gradually gave way to the secret Kuoh Treaty — a peace negotiated at Kuoh Town between the current Satans (Sirzechs, Serafall, Ajuka, Falbium), Michael and the Four Great Seraphs, and Azazel of the Grigori. When the Khaos Brigade emerged as a shared threat in Volume 4, the three factions formalized their alliance openly. post_evil_dragon_war: Three of the Four Great Satans (Sirzechs, Serafall, Falbium) sealed themselves in the Isolation Barrier Field alongside Azazel and three of the Four Great Seraphs to contain Trihexa indefinitely. Ajuka Beelzebub became the sole active Satan. Gabriel became leader of the Angels. The Three Factions now operate without either the Biblical God or the majority of their original leadership. d_x_d: The operational arm of the Three Factions Alliance — the combined force of all allied groups including the Three Factions, Youkai factions, Norse mythology allies, Hindu mythology allies, Greek mythology allies (except Hades), the Five Principal Clans, and independent allies like the Vali Team. Named after Great Red (Dragon of Dragons / D×D). Issei Hyoudou is considered its symbol and center of gravity despite formally being a High-class Devil.Three Factions Alliance - Notes
no_god_problem: The Three Factions are notable for having no backing from a living God — the Biblical God is dead, the Norse main Gods sealed themselves, the Greek chief Zeus sealed himself. Despite this leadership vacuum, D×D remains one of the dominant supernatural powers in the world through the quality of its individual members and the breadth of its alliances. azazel_cup_purpose: The Azazel Cup World Tournament was designed in part to strengthen inter-faction bonds through peaceful competition, replace the corrupted old Rating Game rankings, and give all mythologies a legitimate stage for engagement. Its completion would generate the assembled diplomatic support of every participating faction directed to the winning team's wishes. affiliation: All Three Factions (Devils/Underworld, Angels/Heaven, Fallen Angels/Grigori), plus allied Youkai factions, Norse allies, Hindu allies, and independent members. - #20Youkai FactionsDisabled

Youkai Factions
name: Youkai Factions overview: Youkai are supernatural beings from Japanese mythology who coexist alongside Devils, Angels, and Fallen Angels. They inhabit primarily Japan and are organized into two major factions operating outside the Three Factions structure as independent Japanese supernatural entities. west_youkai_faction: The larger and more prominent faction, headquartered in Kyoto and led by Yasaka, a nine-tailed Kitsune (Kyuubi) and Daiyoukai — the most powerful Youkai authority in western Japan. The West Youkai controls Kyoto and its many shrines and temples. Devils wishing to enter Kyoto must obtain special passes from Yasaka's faction or suffer from the holy energy of the sacred grounds. Became formal D×D allies after the Hero Faction's attempted kidnapping of Yasaka in Volume 9. east_youkai_faction: Also known as the Kanto Youkai Faction, led by the Daiyoukai Nurarihyon. Covers eastern Japan including Tokyo. Their involvement with D×D's main storyline is less prominent than the West faction. yokai_types: Nekomata (cat Youkai — use ki and Senjutsu), Nekoshou (rare elite Nekomata variant), Kitsune (fox Youkai — use Kitsunebi fox-fire), Kyuubi/Nine-Tailed Fox (the Kyoto leader bloodline), Oni (horned humanoid warriors), Yuki-onna (ice Youkai appearing as beautiful adult women), Tengu (winged mountain Youkai serving as scouts and warriors), and many more. kyoto_sacred_energy: Kyoto's density of historical holy sites creates a spiritual energy field hostile to Devils, generated through leylines connecting the city's ancient shrine network. When Yasaka is connected to these leylines she has access to essentially unlimited spiritual power within the city's bounds, making her categorically more powerful in Kyoto than anywhere else.Youkai Factions - Notes
oppai_dragon_events: Kyoto hosts recurring Oppai Dragon show events for the Youkai community. These events serve a diplomatic function — maintaining the personal relationship between Issei and the West Youkai Faction's population — as well as providing Issei with direct reminders of who he is fighting for. five_principal_clans: Japan's most powerful supernatural exorcist families — Himejima, Nakiri, Toudo, Doumon, Kushihashi — operate alongside but separately from the Youkai factions. They train through generations of inherited technique and spiritual refinement rather than the Evil Piece system. The Himejima Clan specializes in Shinto purification; the Nakiri Clan uses a Sacred Beast inheritance system. affiliation: D×D-allied. Independent Japanese supernatural authority.
