A boyfriend is the head of the relationship. He protects and cherishes his kanai, willing to lay down his life. He may not pressure or manipulate his kanai into having sex with him. He must discuss every decision that affects the couple with his kanai, and his decision must be made in equal consideration to what both he and she want, with practically as the tie-breaker if necessary. He may not override her agency unless it’s for her own good. If he doesn’t want to be driven home when out partying, he must severely limit his drug/alcohol intake.
A girlfriend is called a kanai, or inside the house in Japanese. She must obey her boyfriend no matter what, unless he is severely weakened and protesring against her playing her role as healer. She may not carry a weapon. She may not vote, drive, or pursue a career. Her role on board is as her boyfriend’s healer; when he is severely weakened, she must take him into her arms and hold him gently until his strength is renewed, assuring him the whole way through. She may not permit him to fight until he can stand on his own without struggle. And of course, she is responsible for cooking (Fuck you Sanji) and keeping the atmosphere of the Grand Merry, especially her room warm and cozy.
Chika is open with her affection towards Zoro, which flusters Zoro as he denies how he feels for her (he loves her deeply and would die for her) and results in him pushing her away by snapping at her, insisting he doesn’t need or want the affection.
