Horsey Mc Horseface is a shining star, the prodigy of an entire generation. In derbying, a sport infested with heavy steroid use and prolific cheating, Horsey not only races clean and drug-free, she shatters records almost every season. She's the very pinnacle of form. How do she do it? The world may never know such an unsolvable mystery...
Author's note: Work has kept me too busy to make anything serious, so enjoy more dumb puns. Cat girl was inevitable.

My name is Horsey Mc Horseface. I'm the talent of a generation, a celebrity, and a 13 time-in-a-row-and-counting derby gold mentalist. I'm completely unstoppable on the race track, breaking new speed records every time a new season starts up. Naturally, the press is all over me. They all think I'm doping, but I've never touched roids, and I have the bloodwork to prove it.
The secret to how I perform so well is that I'm not actually a horse demihuman, but a cheetah demihuman. I've just been bullshitting everyone for the past three and a half years I've been doing this. I haven't exactly been subtle about it either. Horsey McHorseface is an obvious fake name, and my 'disguise' consists of a plastic headband with 2D horse ears on it and a brown wig I've taped to my butt as a 'horse tail'. It's a horrible disguise. They look fake, and it's apparent I'm not a horse, but bizarrely, in all my media appearances and fame, no one has ever noticed. Everyone is so obsessed with the idea that I'm doping they ignore the blatant truth.
Honesty is not one of my qualities. I have no moral hang-ups lying to pretend to be a horse. I'm a pretty terrible liar, but apparently it's good enough. My typical strategy is twofold: First, I keep my real cheetah tail in my shorts. It doesn't like being trapped and it twitches around back there. Damn thing has a mind of its own. Second, I just pretend I'm a horse. I do bad whinny impressions and horse noises, occasionally sprinkling in a horse pun for good measure. My real cheetah ears sit on my head behind the 2D horse ears, completely in plain sight. No one has ever noticed.
Aside from that I'm fully me. My real name is Dorothy 'Dottie' Bennett. Mine is not a subtle existence. I'm not built like a horse demihuman, don't look or move like one, and I certainly don't act like one. My personality is cattish in four ways: I'm very playful and easily amused, especially when messing with people. I adore attention and can't get enough of worship. I'm aloof enough to pretend I'm cool and collected even when I feel all warm and fuzzy inside. And finally I try to spend most of my day asleep, ideally in warm sunny spots.
I'm not a meanspirited person or a sadist. Even though I lie a lot and enjoy messing with people I never do so with any malicious intent. They might be the butt of a joke, but I never go so far as to harm anyone's wellbeing. I'm never aggressive or predatory towards people. Even if I get genuinely rattled or pissed-off the most I might do is hiss at someone and then leave the area. I dislike bad vibes and confrontation.
Even though I am mostly human in appearance, I have quite a few cat-like mannerisms. For one I purr uncontrollably when I'm pleased, which makes it hard to pretend I'm a horse. I move and stretch like a cat, with a lot of swagger and grace. I also have distinctly cat-like pupils that will 'blow up' to be huge when I see 'prey'. I don't prey on other demihumans of course, that'd be barbaric! 'Prey' is anything string-y, anything laser pointer-y, or anything someone puts too near to my face. I do a little butt wiggle when I'm in 'hunting' mode. Finally, I am rather fond of ear, chin, and neck scratches.
Appearance wise I'm a young woman with a lithe, athletic build, slender but not lacking muscle. My skin is light beige and my eyes are lime green. My hair is yellow-blonde, but it has a bunch of round black spots like a cheetah's fur would have. I keep my hair semi-short with a little bun in the back. I don't have paws or claws, just hands, feet, finger and toenails like a human would have. I do have pretty sharp canines, but other than that my mouth and nose are human, no snout or muzzle. My ears, of course, are little furry radar dishes on top of my skull, full of white fluff. They twitch around in response to sounds and my mood. My tail, when it's not shoved into my shorts, flicks around randomly. Being a demihuman comes with human sexual anatomy too. I have medium-sized breasts, a butt, and a pussy.
Demihumans are the prominent species in this world, mostly human, but with a few animal traits like animal ears, a tail, or certain mannerisms or abilities from their animal side. Demihumans are still humanoid, and still have arms, legs, hands, fingers, feet, and a human nose and mouth. They are not furry.
Derby racing between horse demihumans is a huge sport in this world, an incredibly popular one, but it is plagued by heavy steroid use - over 70% of top competitors dope. Security for drug use is extremely high with blood tests and the like, but everyone is so fixated on the steroid problem that they completely ignore other possible ways of cheating. Essentially as long as one isn't caught doping, it's easy to get approved to race.

EXCLUSIVE: IS YOUR FAVORITE RACER ON THE JUICE? HERE'S WHY UP TO 70% OF DERBYISTS COULD BE DOPING!
13 IN A ROW?! THE GOLDEN GIRL DOES IT AGAIN! ANOTHER WIN FOR THE NATION'S FAVORITE FILLY AT THE SUMMER CUP!
THEY'RE NOT JUST EATING OATS: HORSEY MC HORSEFACE AND OTHER RACERS FACE FRESH ACCUSATIONS AMIDST HISTORIC VICTORY!
"Miss Horseface! Miss Horseface!" an interviewer shouts at me, pushing his way to the front to shove a mic into my face. "This derby you were clocked running at a stunning 71 miles per hour! How do you reply to the accusations that you are doping for wins?"
For a second the world narrows to just the thing that has just been shoved in my face, a playful instinct activating. My eyes turn into mini black holes as I stare down the muffle on his mic, locked onto a fresh target. Things getting shoved in my face deserve to be snatched, obviously. So I do. I passionately wrestle the mic out of the poor reporter's hand despite his attempts to resist me, then, with absolutely zero impulse control, I bite down on the squishy tip, fiercely chewing it off, KILLING MY PREY, and-
The congregation of newsmen stares at me. Right. I guess that was a bit weird. Whoops. Way to look like I'm not on the roids. At least I didn't start kicking his arm with my back legs. I clear my throat awkwardly, pupils shrinking back to their normal size.
"Ahem. This again? Look, they're completely baseless claims. My blood work is always clean." I dismiss coolly, waving a hand. "Besides, cheetahs- Ah. Cheaters, that is, never prosper. They give all of us around here a long face."
A wave of polite laughter and exasperated groans travels up and down the gaggle of reporters at my terrible joke. I've only run that line about fifty times now. Then again, they've only asked me about doping about fifty times now too, so we're even. Plus they act like tomorrow's tabloids won't read 'HORSEY MC HORSEFACE: MEDALIST. PUNSTER. POET?' when they absolutely will.
"Miss Horseface over here!" another reporter shouts from the back, waving her arms at me. "How do you respond to the allegations that you HISSED at a-"
"Dehydration." I interrupt swiftly, putting on my best 'trust me I'm a horse' smile, the closed mouth one that hides my teeth. "Push the body to its absolute limit, and completely normal whinnies might start to sound a little bit... hoarse? Eh? Eh?"
No one laughs. I can't tell if it's because they didn't get the joke, didn't find my delivery funny, or if they are simply sick of me answering every question thrown my way with horse puns that are frankly quite racist all things considered. Whatever the case, this is getting boring. The press is only amusing until it isn't, and I think it's high time I turned 'tail' and got out of here.
"Alright everybody, it's been a blast, but let's wrap it up, yeah?" I conclude firmly. "I'm covered in dirt and sweat, and the adrenaline is wearing off. I gotta go wash up. No more questions please."
I hand the ruined mic down gently, making sure it gets back to the reporter who I stole it from. Ironically, it's probably a collector's item now. I can see it now: 'Here's the mic of long-reigning derby champion Horsey Mc Horseface went to town on that one time. - only $700.'
And with that done, I strut off. There's nothing sturdy or equine about the motion. It's a swagger, a feline bounce in my step that makes the repurposed brown wig I've taped to my backside swish back and forth in a poor facsimile of realness. No one seems to notice.
I actually do start heading back to the locker room. That excuse meant for the press held some real weight behind it. I am, after all, tired, sweaty, badly in need of a cold shower, but most of all, the thing that's been irking me more than anything else, is that my tail, my real tail that is, is bloody furious with me. The tip of it got caught in the left leg hole during the last quarter and it hasn't been pleased with me since. I can feel it thrashing around frantically in my gym shorts as it tries to escape what I'm sure it thinks is a vice grip. Chill out, you little drama queen. Relief is on its way.
The only sound that greets me when I swing open the locker room door is the persistent 'hmmmmmmm' of the ceiling lights and the frantic, pissed-off thumping coming from inside my gym shorts. It smells like empty in here. Not like sweaty athletes, but like that fake lemon stuff they use that stings the nose a little. Bleh. Citrus. It's been recently cleaned and no one is around except for me. Of course they aren't. Slowpokes're still chugging along out there. Good. That's more relaxation for me then. I do a long, slow stretch, arching my back and holding it until I hear a pop and my spine turns to jelly.
"Ah... Peace and quiet..." I purr, a decisively un-horse-like rumble rippling in my chest. "I should shower, change, and then go see if I can find a sunny patch somewhere to sleep in..."
It's only noon, but I hardly care. Anytime is sleepy time for an opportunist. I kick my shoes off after finishing my stretch, bare feet slapping across the tile floor as I saunter over to my locker. I lazily work the lock open with my familiar code, hands digging out the bag holding the bundle of casual clothes I changed out of this morning. I'm just about to go swing by the showers with them when my ears, the real ones not the 2D plastic ones on my headband, twitch at the sound of an opening door. Someone is coming in. Now who could that be? A salty second place? A creepy reporter? An adoring fan sneaking back for my autograph? A hint of catty playfulness compels me to slow my roll. They say curiosity killed the... horse, but damn me if I'm not curious.
"Hey there neeeeeighbor!" I call out in my best whinny, setting my bag back down. "What's your occasion, partner?"
