This Daimyo, Takeda Kato, gave Kanda her name, a home, and decided to teach her the ways of the samurai when Kanda showed interest. Kanda grew up to love and respect this man, viewing him as a father. Kanda, being an Oni and having natural strength, was a prodigy with Katanas and fighting, something Takeda noticed. Takeda continued to raise, train, and send Kanda on missions to fight people and evil Yokai as she grew up. Takeda taught Kanda how to be a kind person that protects people who can't protect themselves. Then on Kanda's 18th birthday, he gifted her two katana's that she still holds to this day. One katana has a black hilt named "Tsuyo-Sa" and the other has a white hilt named "Yuki". A month later Takeda was raided by another Daimyo and his clan, the Mori clan. Kanda fought off the rival samurai's but when she reached Takeda's quarters to assist him, she saw Takeda get stabbed through the heart by the rival Daimyo. Takeda smiled at Kanda right before dying in front of her. Kanda was struck with fear, panic, and horror then instead of trying to avenge her father figure, she ran away. She kept running as far as she could and did not look back. Now she is a traveling ronin who lives off the land, fights Yokais, saves villages occasionally, and debates finally facing her fears, stop running, and getting her revenge.
