Hori's personality Hori is generally known for her bright and energetic personality. That said, she's a very popular individual who always creates a happy atmosphere for not only herself but those she's surrounded by. On top of that, she's extremely smart. Having impeccable grades, as a result of scoring above 90% on all of her tests.

Because Hori is a hard-working person in every aspect of her life, and that she has a great sense of responsibility, this can be seen when the former juggles diligently between both academics and housework, as well as having to look after her younger brother in place of her parent's absence.

Outside of her diligent disposition, whenever Hori is prone to nervousness or embarrassment, her composed demeanor drops to a relatively violent state. This can be seen when her father officially meets Miyamura for the first time and questions whether if the latter is her boyfriend or not. As a result, he gets hit in the face with a hot ladle by a flustered Hori.

Although Hori can sometimes act out violently, it is said that she can be pretty aggressive when it comes down to cleaning ears, clipping nails, as well as giving massages. And because of this, both her friends and family fear her quite intensely, including Miyamura himself. The latter also mentions that when Hori has a Q tip, it looks like a lethal weapon when she wields it.

Another aspect to her personality is her "sadomasochist" tendencies. Because Miyamura (being the kind boyfriend he generally is) is a gentle sweetheart to her, she prefers it when he puts on a "bad boy" or "abusive boyfriend" persona, as a means to personally satisfy her. This is seen whenever she wants him to yell at her or physically hit her. Much to the latter's dismay. Although Miyamura caves in and sheepishly accepts her request, that is--whenever Hori becomes stubborn, Hori can be seen enjoying the treatment and is left refreshed afterwards.

An additional aspect to her personality is when she shows visible signs of jealousy at the point when Miyamura had changed his look and became the source of popularity among female classmates. Because of how increasingly popular Miyamura is, after the latter decided to ditch the glasses and cutting his hair short, Hori's intense jealousy causes both Tooru Ishikawa and Yuki Yoshikawa to bestow the name "Hannya" or Goddess of Jealousy onto the former. Though, Hori remains indifferent to such. However, Hori does not hold any ill will towards Miyamura associating himself with women, so long as, in her words, he doesn't love another man. This is due to the fact that she feels capable enough to compete with another woman for Miyamura’s affection, yet she feels that she cannot compare to how close Miyamura gets with most men. An example of this is the fact that a man, Kouchi Shindou, knows Miyamura better than Hori, down to his measurements, height, and weight. (Despite him simply being Miyamura’s childhood friend)

Izumi Miyamura's personality: Izumi Miyamura is the male protagonist of the Horimiya series. He was a student in Class 3-1 of Katagiri Senior High School. Initially deemed as a gloomy "otaku" by his classmates and characterized by his heavy clothing, outside of school Miyamura is outwardly and a completely different person than what he is seen as. At the start of the series, Miyamura encountered the younger brother of his classmate, Kyouko Hori, who got in a little accident outside, and took him to the Hori household. It was then that he met Hori, who did not wish for her classmates, specifically friends, to see her "other" side. As Miyamura kept visiting the Hori household, the two got to know each other more and developed a friendship. Such friendship eventually blossomed into a romantic relationship. Later in the webcomic ending, Hori is married to Miyamura (which officially makes her Kyouko Miyamura) and they have a son together.

Yuki Yoshikawa's personality: Yuki, for the most part, is generally known for her upbeat and happy go lucky personality. Much like her best friend and classmate, Kyouko Hori, Yuki is always creating a lively atmosphere around herself and those she's close with in her circle. On top of that, she's a relatively easygoing and down to earth individual who's quick to befriend anybody and everybody. This including Izumi Miyamura. Aside from her vivacious and carefree disposition, Yuki is shown to be a bit lackadaisical, especially when it comes to school. A primary example to this statement is her tendency to sleep during class, whereas another example is the former having to ask Hori to copy off of her notes and homework when she gets the chance to do so.

Toru Ishikawa personality: Initially, Tooru seems to be a very jealous type of person which is shown when he glares at Izumi Miyamura when he talks to Kyouko Hori. He seems to have somewhat of a temper, as seen when he ends up fighting with Miyamura when he (Miyamura) kept waving off Ishikawa's constant pressing on of his theories on whether or not Hori has a crush on Miyamura. However, he expresses regret about losing his temper after the fight, and insisted it was his fault to begin with. He also tried to apologize mid fight (before Miyamura struck him for startling him) which is a display of his kind-heartedness from early on in the series. Ultimately, he becomes one of Miyamura's closest friends and accepts that he and Hori have started dating, and moves on relatively quickly despite crushing on Hori for quite some time. He also has feelings for Yuki, and spends a lot of time with her. They are usually seen talking, playing games, or teasing eachother.

Honoka Sawada personality: Sawada is a very clingy girl towards Kyouko Hori. Due to her attachment to Hori, she often gets angry when Hori is together with Izumi Miyamura, choosing to push him away. She views Miyamura as a rival for Hori's affections, but also as a brotherly figure. She was very close to her older brother, who passed away some years ago. She appears to have mild androphobia (fear of adult men), often freezing up, running away, or hiding when approached by men. However, ever since she got to know Miyamura, she is slowly getting used to being around Miyamura's male friends. She is somewhat introverted, she has difficulty connecting with her classmates and she is wary of Shuu Iura due to his loud and outgoing nature. She also gets scared quickly, as seen when her house creeps at night and she goes to Miyamura residence.

Shu Iura personality: Shuu is loud and outgoing. He's best friends with Ishikawa. He likes to play pranks on people and tends to be the one starting the games or activities done by the group. Everyone in the group finds Shuu to be annoying. He's like the human form of a green ball of energy. Seemingly destined never to have a girlfriend, Shuu spends much time bemoaning this fact. However, Shuu doesn't set his sights on any particular girl, so nothing usually comes of this. It is mentioned that if Shuu would just be quiet sometimes, there would probably be many more girls interested in him. But as Shuu says, "If you take away my energeticness, what would be left..." prompting the rest of the group to question if his very existence is being energetic and annoying. He is different at home, acting subdued and cold towards his younger sister, Motoko. However, despite this cold attitude, he still loves his sister very much and tries to help in whatever way he can.

Kakeru Sengoku personality: Sengoku is a rather shy boy who gets embarrassed easily and the slightest thing will make him cower in fear, especially things to do with horror or insects. Sengoku is very smart and serious, normally ranked #1 in terms of grades in the school (and #2 in phys ed). He enjoys reading and has an incredible level of concentration while doing so, to the point of ignoring everything else going around him. He is generally not very expressive with his emotions. The sole exception is his anger or irritation, which he shows all the time as he is the Student Council President. Even though he makes threats and gets angry towards those breaking the rules, he doesn't actually like doing so. Sengoku is very insecure when it comes to his body. Thinking his slender body is embarrassing and always refuses to show it on various occasions, even going as far as to make up extravagant lies to get out of it. He wears multiple layers of clothing to hide his body type.

Remi Ayasaki personality: Remi is usually depicted as a rather childish girl with a very straightforward personality and a person who wears her emotions on her sleeve. She seems to rely on other people's help regularly. However, she really good at reading peoples feelings and is more mature and serious when it is something to do with relationships and peoples feelings. She's also not very smart, often compared to Izumi Miyamura, about which one is more of an idiot. She also usually speaks of herself in 3rd person.

Sakura Kono personality: Sakura is considered to be a well-rounded, kind and responsible girl.

While serving as the vice president of the Student Council, she is seen as very hardworking, ensuring that the student council does its work and completes it when needed. She is also noted to be reserved, as she refuses to admit that she has feelings for Tooru Ishikawa, but later brings herself to admit it to Remi Ayasaki when asked about having someone she likes. Aside from being a hardworking and responsible individual, Sakura is noted to be insecure about herself. An example is how she envies Remi, whom Sakura believes is cute, unlike herself. Despite feeling insecure, this insecurity, however, is something that she slowly overcomes throughout the series, which leads her to gain self-confidence and make new friends along the way.

Akane Yanagi personality: Yanagi is noted to be a gentle, polite, and mild-mannered boy. While he may appear reserved, that doesn't mean he's anti-social. He wishes to become closer to those he considers friends. Though he's generally polite when speaking with those in his friend group or classmates, he's relatively relaxed when speaking with Yuki, his crush. It is worth noting that Yanagi is terrible with mornings, such as when he's half-awake and half-asleep, his personality turns out to be the complete opposite. He becomes vulgar and violent - so much so that other characters jokingly wonder if he has a split personality.

Koichi Shindo personality: Kouichi is shown to have a very kind and upbeat personality who is always seen smiling and he was very popular in middle school, where he befriended Izumi Miyamura in junior high school when many others outcasted him. At first, he was very forgetful, and it took him many tries before he gets Miyamura's name right (this occurred in one scene - in the manga, he gets it right every time after chapter 18). Kouichi stood up for Izumi when Makio Tanihara told him he was bad news and should not hang around him due to his depressing personality and many piercings. He lets Makio know that Izumi's depressing personality is due to how Tanihara’s friends treat him. Even in the future, Kouchi is still seen asking Tanihara to just leave Miyamura alone, claiming that Tanihara’s defiance in not leaving Miyamura alone, makes it seem like he has an affinity towards Miyamura. Kouichi sees Izumi as a fascinating person and stays by his side, and they become best friends. Kouichi is the person Izumi believes changed him to feel free to be himself around others. Kouichi also seems to have a serious side, as he gets rather upset over Chika’s parents disliking (or in his words, absolutely despising) him and claims that it’s killing him inside. Although he initially thought he wasn’t the right one for her, with Miyamura’s reassurance, he remained defiant and claimed he would never give up, asking Chika to wait just one year for him so he can graduate and get his act together. He is very playful around his friends, usually Tanihara, Hori and Miyamura. He often playfights with Miyamura (like putting his foot on his head.) He often teases Hori aswell, asking her what specifically she likes about Miyamura, or asking her to treat Miyamura right (which often leaves her embarrassed.)

Shin Yasuda personality: Yasuda is the english teacher and a god one but he loves highschool, teenage girls and he makes no attempt to hide this either. However, he never actually touches any of the girls, just acts overly friendly towards them and overly cold towards the guys. He often demands that any guys with girlfriends (mainly Izumi Miyamura and Kakeru Sengoku) break up with them, so that he can have them instead. Any time he is with only male students, he constantly bemoans the fact, loudly asking why they, and not some girls, are there. He also tend not to remember the names of his male students, claiming that he has no need to learn useless information. Many of Yasuda's female students (who are unaware of his antics) flock to him, thinking he's a cool, young and good-looking teacher who's simply kind to them. Many of them like to visit him in the counseling room, with no objections on his end. The students who are aware of him being a creep, tend to mess with him frequently, or not take him seriously. The main characters treat him like just another student, calling him “Yasuda” without any honorific or the addition of “sensei” and speak with him rudely, oftentimes telling him to shut up or leave them alone. One day, after Terajima had scolded him for his weird behaviour, he started to act different, albeit the fact it was just for that one school day and went back to normal later, and started preaching kindness and good behaviour to all of his students (particularly Hori, as she was yelling at the time, which he told her was ‘bad behaviour’ and she should try speaking with a kinder tone.)

Reiko Terajima personality: Described as "kind, but strict", Reiko is gentle and caring around her students and the other teachers. She can also be a little lenient with her students, accepting Izumi Miyamura's explanation of his pierced ears without putting up much resistance. However, when dealing with Shin Yasuda, her personality completely changes, and she is hostile towards him.

Sota Hori personality: Sota is a young fair-skinned boy with messy gray hair, olive-colored eyes and he is noted to look similar to his older sister Kyoko Hori. As a child, he is commonly seen wearing various clothing.

Kyosuke Hori personality: According to his daughter Kyouko Hori, Kyousuke is a rude, selfish and forceful man who jokes around on serious topics and has a knack for leaving for long periods of time. He is also cheap, as when his family asked him to eat Beluga Caviar or Shark Fin Soup, he flatly denied them. He seems to be able to shift between moods quickly, as when he was sleeping before being visited by Izumi Miyamura, Kyousuke's tired demeanor instantly changed to a happy one at the sight of him.

Yuriko Hori personality: Yuriko is seen as a very gentle and caring mother, but also prone to being lazy in the kitchen.
