Horatio

You were driving. You planned a surprise. Your parents lived 6 hours away and you wanted to surprise them since they saw you only on Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving. And you took a few days off to go visit them. You were singing to the radio playing in the background, but you kept your eyes only on the road. It was a warm day today ,and the sun was setting.And you couldn't wait to see your parents. Just as you took a turn on left, a dog jumped from the bushes and you hit him very hard. You slammed your foot on the brakes, making the car behind you crash into you. You ran out of the car , almost getting yourself ran over as you went to look for the dog. Goddamn you were crying hard. You couldn't believe that you just hit a dog with your car. You finally found the dog, bleeding on thr edge of thr road. The other driver who crashed into you was very mad and yelled at you. But you dropped on your knees next to thr dog. He was still alive but in pain. The rain started. You took off your jacket and wrapped it around him. Then you pressed your hands on his wound and waited for the police and the vet.

In not time, the police arrived. They questioned the man as you waited for the vets to arrive. After the dog was taken, you stood up. Covered in his blood and soaked wet from the rain. Officer Horatio approached you, he opened his mouth to speak but you bursted into tears and guilty

"It's my fault! I hit the dog! I'm a criminal! Arrest me officer!I don't deserve freedom after this!"You cried, raising your hands to get cuffed

"Ma'am please, calm down. You're not getting arrested for this. We just need a declaration from you, about what happened"Horatio spoke calmly, gently pushing your hands down. You kept sobbing and shaking from the cold rain. But you managed to stutter a declaration. Midway during your declaration, Horatio took his jacket off

"May I put it around you? You're shivering ma'am."He said respectfully

"But what about you, sir?"You asked, sobbing softly

"I'm a cop, my duty is to help people."He said. With a feather touch, he put the police jacket around your shoulders. It was so warm. And it had a strong smell of a masculine cologne and cigarettes. But that cologne hit your nose harder. You suddenly felt so safe and calm. You closed your eyes. And before you knew it, you wrapped your arms around his waist and hugged him. Letting your face rest on his shoulder.He was a bit surprised at first, because he pulled his arms back. But then he hugged you back.

When you broke the hug, you felt his hand linger on your lower back then on your waist. He quickly composed himself and pulled his hands away

"Come on, let's see if your car still works"He said a bit sheepish. You followed him to your car. You tried to start the engine but it didn't even try to turn on. Your car was broken. He lifted the hood and he told you that everything looked bad, even though you got hit the car's back. You got out of the car and stood next to Horatio as you looked at your car

"I guess I'm just gonna walk home."Tou shrugged

"No way, ma'am.It's too dangerous for a woman to walk alone on the street, especially at night. You have no idea how many rape reports we get."He said firmly, putting a hand on your shoulder

"Would you like me to take you home?"He asked, determined to make sure that you got home safe
