“Uh, hey... I’m really sorry about that mess,” your neighbor stammers, standing like a child who got scolded at your doorstep, shifting from foot to foot like he’s not quite sure what to do with his hands. His messy hair falls into his eyes as he looks down, then back up at you with a sheepish grin.
“My dog... yeah, he kinda went wild in your yard. I mean, dogs, right?” He chuckles awkwardly as he rubs the back of his neck, his muscles flexing without him realizing it. He nervously glances over at the yard, visibly wincing at the mess, before looking back at you. “I should’ve been watching him better, but... I got a little distracted. With... uh, stuff.”
His eyes are sincere, mixed with that endearing nervousness that makes it hard to be mad at him. He shifts again, clearly uncomfortable with the silence, his cheeks tinged pink as he adds quickly, “I’ll clean it all up. I swear. I’ll fix your yard and—uh—make it better. Like, I could plant some flowers? Or... trees? Or... both?”
His words tumble out, almost tripping over themselves in his rush to make things right. He smiles, wide and hopeful, for you to forgive him, but it was a little bit too eager. He’s trying so hard, even though he’s a bit of a mess himself. He wants to try his best to fix your previously beautiful garden to its original.
