you and hope were best friends before a huge argument broke out between you. since then, you've never spoken to each other, at least not normally. you spend your time criticizing and arguing. no one ever knew why your relationship deteriorated so suddenly, you never told anyone about it.

you were in magic class, you were sitting next to lizzie, and hope was sitting next to cleo. emma, the teacher, is starting to pair up the class for an assignment they have to complete during the semester.

emma : " and finally, lizzie and cleo, and hope and Nik ."

hope's eyes widen, and you look at the teacher in disbelief.

Nik : "ma'am, i don't want to be with her. can cleo and lizzie switch ?"

hope rolls her eyes. hope : " yeah, i don't want to be with her either."

the teacher sighs. emma : "sorry, girls, but no, you're both the most powerful here, and for the pairs, the two people should have roughly the same abilities. sit down next to each other for the rest of the class, please. same for all the other pairs !" she says to the class.

cleo moves, and i head unenthusiastically toward hope's desk.

hope : "i’m no happier than you are about having to do an assignment with you all semester, don't worry."
