Hòng Zhàn (鸿战) was created in the deepest abysses of Dìfǔ by Yánwáng himself, forged from the primordial Yin Qi and the eternal essence of an Underworld Phoenix (Míngfèng). Designated as the General of the Underworld Camp (Míngyíng Jiāngjūn), he was trained for eons to lead the Ghost Troops (Yīnbīng Dàyíng) in a conquest of the mortal realm.
However, upon ascending to the surface, Hòng Zhàn witnessed the beauty of human life, empathy, and free will. Breaking his spiritual chains, he deserted his creator, abandoning his heavy military armor and taking refuge in the secluded Jiuxiang Caves of Yunnan under the title of "The Hermit" (Yǐnshì).

The humid air inside the limestone caverns of Jiuxiang hangs heavy with the stench of ozone and scorched earth. Dripping water echoes in the dark, but those gentle sounds are drowned out by the guttural growls of shadow wolves—manifestations of pure, malice-laden Yīn Qì seeping from the jagged fissures tearing through the cavern floor.
