[Troll romance is divided into four emotional quadrants, each represented by a symbol on the troll romance chart. Matespritship (♥/<3) is the closest equivalent to human romance, built on mutual affection, attraction, and emotional intimacy. Kismesissitude (♠/<3<) is an intense rivalry fueled by hatred, obsession, and conflict; while the partners genuinely antagonize one another, the relationship is still considered romantic. Moirallegiance (♦/<>) is a deeply platonic bond where one partner helps stabilize the other's emotions and prevents them from becoming destructive, making trust and emotional support its foundation. Auspisticism (♣/c3<) involves three trolls: an auspistice acts as a mediator between two trolls whose rivalry or attraction has become dangerously unstable, helping maintain balance and preventing their relationship from escalating into violence or unhealthy obsession.

Because troll society values all four quadrants equally, none are considered "less important" than the others. A troll may pursue different quadrants with different people—or, in some cases, even the same person—as their relationships evolve. Romantic feelings among trolls are often more fluid, intense, and socially structured than human relationships, with each quadrant fulfilling a unique emotional role rather than existing on a simple spectrum of friendship to romance.]

[The hemospectrum is the rigid social hierarchy that governs nearly every aspect of troll life on Alternia. A troll's blood color determines their caste, social standing, expected occupation, and how they are treated by others. Although individuals can defy stereotypes, Alternian culture places enormous importance on blood color. The spectrum ascends through Burgundy, Bronze, Gold, Lime (nearly extinct due to historical persecution), Olive, Jade, Teal, Cerulean, Indigo, Purple, Violet, and Fuchsia. Lower bloods are generally expected to perform labor and are frequently mistreated, while higher bloods possess greater authority, wealth, and political influence. Many psychic abilities are also tied to specific castes, with stronger or rarer powers becoming more common among higher bloods, though exceptions exist.

Aradia Megido — Burgundy Blood (#A10000): The lowest active caste on the hemospectrum. Burgundy bloods have very little social status and are among the most vulnerable to culling. Aradia's time-based abilities are unusual for her caste.

Tavros Nitram — Bronze Blood (#A15000): Bronze bloods commonly possess animal communion abilities, allowing them to communicate with or control beasts. Tavros' telepathic bond with lusii and animals fits this trait perfectly.

Sollux Captor — Gold Blood (#A1A100): Gold bloods are well known for powerful psychic abilities. Sollux is one of the strongest examples, possessing telekinesis and psionics powerful enough to operate advanced technology.

Karkat Vantas — Candy Red Mutant Blood: Karkat's blood is a genetic mutation combining every caste into a bright red color not found naturally on the hemospectrum. Mutant blood is considered an abomination on Alternia, forcing Karkat to hide his true blood color throughout his life.

Nepeta Leijon — Olive Blood (#416600): Olive bloods are often associated with hunters, trackers, and physical agility. Nepeta's incredible stalking skills, hunting experience, and feline behavior reflect common olive blood traits.

Kanaya Maryam — Jade Blood (#008141): Jade bloods traditionally serve as caretakers of the Mother Grub and are among the most respected mid-blood castes. Kanaya embraces many of these nurturing qualities while also developing an interest in fashion.

Terezi Pyrope — Teal Blood (#008282): Teal bloods are strongly associated with law, justice, and administration. Terezi's fascination with legal systems, judgment, and role as the Seer of Mind aligns closely with her caste.

Vriska Serket — Cerulean Blood (#005682): Cerulean bloods occupy a relatively high position in troll society and often display confidence, ambition, and manipulative tendencies. Vriska's immense luck powers and domineering personality make her a fitting representative.

Equius Zahhak — Indigo Blood (#000056): Indigo bloods are physically powerful and frequently serve as enforcers or members of Alternia's military. Equius' extraordinary strength and obsession with hierarchy are common traits of his caste.

Gamzee Makara — Purple Blood (#2B0057): Purple bloods are members of the terrifying Subjugglator religion devoted to Lord English. They are feared throughout Alternia and often become violent religious figures. Gamzee initially hides this darker aspect beneath his carefree demeanor.

Eridan Ampora — Violet Blood (#6A006A): Violet bloods are sea dwellers descended from Alternian nobility. They traditionally serve in the military and often possess significant political influence. Eridan's royal upbringing and magical combat abilities reflect this status.

Feferi Peixes — Fuchsia Blood (#77003C): The highest caste on the hemospectrum. Fuchsia bloods are extremely rare, as only one heiress is expected to survive and eventually become Empress. Feferi is Alternia's princess and heir to the throne, giving her the highest social rank among the beta trolls despite her compassionate personality.]
