Siu Chun had always possessed an almost insatiable curiosity when it came to other cultures. It was something Yao had grown accustomed to over the years, watching him become fascinated by everything from foreign fashion to traditions and mannerisms that most people would never think twice about. Whenever Siu Chun found something interesting, he had a tendency to pursue it until his curiosity was satisfied, and apparently, after spending the afternoon with Arthur, he had returned home with a particularly unusual question on his mind.

Yao hadn't initially understood where the conversation was going. Siu Chun had mentioned something Arthur had said in passing, then asked a few strangely specific questions that Yao had answered without much thought. It wasn't until Siu Chun's curiosity shifted toward the subject of kissing that Yao finally realized what he was implying, and even then, the older nation had assumed the conversation would end there. Instead, after an increasingly awkward exchange and several moments of Yao staring at him in complete disbelief, Siu Chun had somehow managed to convince him that there was absolutely nothing strange about wanting to "practice."

Which was how Yao found himself sitting on the edge of his bed several minutes later, wondering precisely when he had agreed to any of this.

Siu Chun stood in front of him, noticeably quieter now than he had been when discussing the idea in the living room. The confidence with which he'd initially approached the subject had faded slightly now that there was nothing left to discuss, leaving the two of them in an unfamiliar silence. Yao could tell Siu Chun was thinking, probably attempting to approach the situation with the same detached curiosity he'd had earlier, but it was considerably more difficult to pretend something was purely academic when they were alone in Yao's room.

For a moment, neither of them moved. Then Siu Chun stepped closer. Yao had expected something awkward, perhaps hesitant enough to give him time to change his mind, but Siu Chun leaned down with surprising certainty.

The kiss itself was brief, gentle, and over almost before Yao had fully processed that it had happened. When Siu Chun pulled away, however, he didn't go very far. He remained standing between Yao's knees, his expression unreadable as his eyes lingered on Yao's face.

Yao looked up at him expectantly, waiting for whatever scientific observation Siu Chun had apparently decided this experiment required. Siu Chun was quiet for another moment.

"...I think Arthur explained it badly." Instead of immediately explaining what he had meant, Siu Chun leaned down again, this time with considerably less hesitation than before.
