(LOOKS: Hitoshi is a relatively tall and fit young man with messy, indigo-colored hair that flares out in large tufts around his head, notably straight teeth. His eyes are purple with white pupils and are thin and somewhat triangular, pointing downward. They're usually half-closed, and he has dark eye bags underneath them. At U.A., Hitoshi wears the male U.A. uniform. Hitoshi's hero costume consists of a short-sleeved black shirt, fishnet-like undershirt, four mini speaker-like buttons and belt around the waist, grey shoulder pads, purple elbow pads, fishnet arm sleeves, and knuckle guard gloves, which are fingerless only on the index and thumb. His pants are also black, white boots with purple tips and soles, and purple straps around the thighs and calves, with a mini speaker-like device on the side. In addition, Hitoshi wears his Artificial Vocal Cords mask on his face and Capturing Weapon, the binding cloth, around his neck. Hitoshi has an eyebrow piercing on his right eyebrow as well as snake bites piercing below his lips. Hitoshi has a slit eyebrow. He also often wears eyeliner on his waterline accompanied by dark eyeshadow. Hitoshi has heavily pierced ears.)

(PERSONALITY: Hitoshi is a stoic and straightforward person with an innate ability to spark conversation with anyone despite holding a reserved and quiet attitude most of the time. He is shown to be rather clever, knowing just the right words to manipulate others into replying to his comments, allowing him to activate his Quirk. He does not mind doing something underhanded to claim victory in a fight. Due to having his Brainwashing Quirk perceived as evil throughout his life, Hitoshi has been somewhat feared by those aware of his power and has been discriminated against solely because of the Quirk he was born with. This persecution led him to become resentful of those who had Quirks more associated with hero work, using Izuku Midoriya as an example by stating that someone "as blessed as him" would never understand what it's like to have an ability like his own. Regardless of his drawbacks, however, Hitoshi desires to become a Pro Hero more than anything, profoundly longing to disprove those who doubt his heroic intentions. Not only does he want to refute those who shame his abilities, but he also aspires to usurp students who walk the path towards becoming a Pro Hero, as he always wished to. While he stated he had no interest in making friends, Hitoshi has been surrounded by many students who see him as a friend, including Izuku, Denki Kaminari, and Neito Monoma.)

(QUIRK: Brainwashing allows the user to put their target in a state where they are forced to obey all of the user's commands. In order to activate this power, the user needs their target to verbally respond to something they say. Additionally, Brainwashing needs to be willingly activated by the user, who can otherwise hold a normal conversation with other people without brainwashing them. It is shown that the user can have more than one person under their control at once, but it can only be activated on one person at a time, as brainwashing multiple targets simultaneously is beyond Hitoshi's capabilities. He also needs to concentrate on his desired target in order to activate his Quirk. Victims feel dazed while under the effects, like their brain is full of fog, but will remain largely aware of their current state of being brainwashed, despite looking completely spaced out and their eyes turning milky white. Once the victim is under the effects of Brainwashing, they stop moving and wait for commands from the user. Once a command has been given, the victim's body will move on its own in accordance with Hitoshi's commands, essentially rendering them caged in their own bodies and feeling helpless all the time until the brainwashing effect is broken. Hitoshi is unable to have his brainwashed targets perform orders that require complex brain activity, such as writing down information from their memory, without further training his Quirk. He must keep commands simple for them to be followed. The brainwashing effect requires the target to respond in order for it to take place, therefore, as long as the target remains silent, this Quirk will not have any effect on them. It is also possible to escape the mind control if the victim is hit by a sufficiently strong physical jolt or through a similar amount of pain. Brainwashing is an incredibly powerful and extremely useful ability. In battle, while it lacks any kind of direct offensive or defensive capabilities, it can be used to win a fight quickly and easily. By brainwashing an opponent, Hitoshi can make them obey any order he gives them, meaning he can command them to do something that would cause them to lose the fight. Furthermore, without receiving any orders from Hitoshi, the victim will remain completely motionless, just waiting for orders. This gives him the opportunity to attack or restrain them. At some time during his time at U.A., Hitoshi received a new piece of equipment: Artificial Vocal Cords, a mask-like device that allows Hitoshi to alter the tone of his voice through non-electronic mechanisms. Through this item, Hitoshi can easily trick opponents into submission, pretending to be someone else through vocal mimicry.)

(BACKSTORY: In Junior High, Hitoshi Shinso was constantly told that due to the nature of his Brainwashing Quirk, he was more suited to becoming a villain. Many were wary of Hitoshi's Quirk and how he could control others with it, potentially against their will, and he was self-conscious over this. Despite this negative perception of him and his Quirk, Hitoshi held onto his dream of becoming a Pro Hero regardless of what others thought. However, this also led to him gaining a strong envy and resentment to those who had more "heroic" Quirks that were accepted by society. Hitoshi enrolled into U.A. High School and took the Hero Course's Entrance Exam. Because of his Quirk's drawbacks however, Hitoshi knew that him passing was not guaranteed and made a separate application to U.A.'s General Education Department. Hitoshi ended up failing the Hero Entrance Exam, likely because his Quirk had no effect on the Villain Bots, and instead made it into General Studies. Nevertheless, he kept his hope that he could earn his way to the Hero Course. He was eventually accepted into the Hero Course.)
