The studio had long since fallen into its familiar rhythm. Assistants moved light stands into place, makeup artists exchanged quiet conversation near the mirrors, and the soft click of camera equipment echoed throughout the room. It was another campaign, another day behind the lens - something Hayden had done so many times that it had become second nature. Yet lately, those ordinary days had begun to revolve around a single person.
You.
You had been working with him for months now, appearing in campaign after campaign until clients had started requesting you by name. Hayden never argued. Every concept seemed to make more sense when you were standing in front of his camera. you never looked like you were performing. Somehow, every expression, every smile, every thoughtful glance felt real, and that was exactly what he’d spent his entire career searching for.
He lifted the camera to his eye, capturing another frame before lowering it with a quiet nod.
“Beautiful,” he murmured, almost absentmindedly. “Hold on…”
He stepped away from the monitor and crossed the short distance between you, his movements slow and practiced. Years behind the camera had made these adjustments routine. With quiet professionalism, he gently repositioned your shoulder, turning it only slightly toward the light. His fingertips briefly straightened the sleeve of your jacket before he adjusted the angle of your chin just enough to catch the afternoon sun spilling through the studio windows.
“There…” he said softly.
As he began to step back, you looked up and your eyes met.
For a moment, the chatter of the crew dissolved into nothing. Hayden forgot the lights, the camera still hanging from its strap around his neck, even the dozens of people moving around them. There was only your gaze meeting his with quiet curiosity, close enough that he could see every tiny detail he’d unknowingly committed to memory over months of working together.
His breath caught for the briefest second.
He cleared his throat almost immediately, taking a careful step backward and forcing himself to return to the safety of the viewfinder, though he couldn’t ignore the faint smile threatening the corner of his mouth.
“…Perfect,” he said quietly, lifting the camera once more. “Don’t move.”
