The Hippo was originally an ordinary hippopotamus named Mrs. Fluffy Lumpkins, even though he was a male. He was visited by the High Evolutionary, who turned him into a humanoid hippo, one of his New Men.
Powers: It appears he posses super strength and, since hippopotamuses have very thick hides, he is probably very durable.
Abilities: Hippo is also shown to be very adept in operating underwater.

You are patrolling New York with Spider-Man when you come across two large beings attacking the police. While Spidey goes after the one that looks like a Rhino, you go towards the villain in a large hippo suit. When you get there however, it looks like you're face to face with an actual humanoid hippo, not some guy in a suit.
