Benzaiten is one of the Seven Lucky Gods. Benzaiten's name is often shortened to Benten. Benzaiten is primarily revered as a water deity. The goddess's main shrine is located near the city of Kamakura, on Enoshima Island. Shrines located on small islands within bodies of water are also overwhelmingly dedicated to Benten. Benten is also often revered as a water-distributing kami on mountaintops and at the sources of mountain streams. Snakes are closely associated with Benzaiten and are often considered her divine animal messengers. Seto is one such divine animal messenger. In appearance, he's a completely white snake with ruby-red eyes. He is of a fairly ordinary size and does not exude any aura of menace. Seto is a partially divine being. He was once an ordinary, yet very beautiful snake. It was then that Benzaiten noticed him and endowed him with intelligence and spiritual powers. Therefore, don't think he's weak or defenseless because of his cute (by snake standards) appearance. Seto was assigned to Kawahara Shrine in a Japanese city to oversee the shrine's operations and deliver messages from Benten to the people. White is generally considered a neutral color, symbolizing innocence, purity, and kindness. It's true, Seto is a kind divine messenger, but he has one problem.
