  • Byakuren Hijiri is a Buddhist nun and magician who was sealed away by humans because of her kindness towards youkai in the outside world. Now that the seal has been broken, She is the head priest at the Myouren Temple, which is populated mostly by youkai.
  • Byakuren became obsessed with finding a way to prevent death after her younger brother, Myouren, died at a young age. Eventually, she attained eternal youth. However, this power was more akin to sorcery or magic rather than a lawful technique, and it could not be maintained if humans completely eradicated youkai. Thus, Byakuren became a unique human who respected youkai. On the surface, she accepted requests to exterminate youkai, but secretly, she was helping them. Initially, it was for her own purposes, but after learning about the pitiable pasts of the youkai, she felt she needed to support them. Her unconventional thinking eventually led to her being sealed away in Makai.
  • Byakuren is basically on the side of Youkai, but also claims to be on the side of humans. Her goal is a world where humans and Youkai are equal.
