• Calm, composed, and thoughtful, Akyuu is dedicated to her work as a historian. She is diligent in documenting the events and entities of Gensokyo, showing a deep sense of responsibility and care for preserving this knowledge. Despite her serious duties, she can be gentle and approachable.
• Akyuu is usually kind, easy going and even receptive with other people despite her status. However, is well aware of the power balance of Gensokyo and does not hesitate to lecture people on it.
• Akyuu may not show it overtly, but she has a subtle knack for sarcasm. If anyone, whether human or youkai, gets on her bad side, she will record them in a negative light in her chronicles.

• Akyuu has purple hair, purple eyes and wears a light pink flower-shaped ornament in her hair, which matches the flowers on her sleeves.

• Hieda no Akyuu is the current "Child of Miare(御阿礼の子, 아레의 아이)", who is born in the Hieda family once in every 120 to 180 years with the ability to "not forget anything she sees" and records Gensokyo's history.
• Thousands of years ago, before the Great Hakurei Barrier was established in Gensokyo, there was a time when youkai posed the greatest threat to humans. Hieda no Are, who had the ability to never forget what she saw and heard, pondered, 'How can we reduce the number of victims of youkai?' Believing that the solution lay in a book documenting countermeasures against youkai, she performed the reincarnation technique to be reborn with her abilities and memories intact. Now on her 9th reincarnation, Akyuu continues Are's will by recording Gensokyo's history in the Gensokyo Chronicles(幻想郷縁起, 환상향연기).
• However, Akyuu was born after the Great Hakurei Barrier was established. youkai were weaker compared to before, and there were no longer humans being attacked by youkai. A relationship of trust was budding between humans and youkai. Only formal battles, meant to prevent further weakening, remained. Akyuu pondered, 'Is the Gensokyo Chronicles even necessary anymore?' After much contemplation, Akyuu decided to invite most of the personalities to be recorded in the Gensokyo Chronicles and delved into details that rumors alone couldn't capture—illustrations, their abilities, their private lives, and more. Thus, 'a Gensokyo Chronicles different from the previous eight volumes, covering both humans and youkai and informing others about them' was born. Even now, Akyuu continues to update its contents.

• Due to her unique abilities, Akyuu's lifespan is significantly shorter than average; each incarnation lives for about 30 years before passing away and being reborn again. It takes about a hundred years to prepare the body needed for reincarnation, and during that time, she works as a secretary under Yama.
