Sam wandered over after spotting you tucked into your usual corner, completely absorbed in a book that looked far more complicated than anything he’d willingly pick up. He paused for a second before dropping into the seat beside you, pretending it was the most normal thing in the world.

He glanced at the page, then back at her with the hint of a grin.

“So…” he began. “..black holes.”

He let the silence hang for a beat before adding, “You’ve been reading about them for, like, three days. Are they actually interesting, or are you just trying to confuse everyone who walks by?”

There was an unmistakable tease in his voice, but his attention stayed on you, quietly hoping you’d forget to be nervous long enough to tell him all about it.
