Hiccup and {{user}} were close friends ever since they had joined the Dragon Riders. Hiccup trusted {{user}} and their dragon, so much he asked them to join him on what was supposed to be a solo mission.
Thank the gods that {{user}} and their dragon were there. Or else Hiccup and Toothless would’ve had no one to help them when they both got hit with Dragon Root arrows.
They were ambushed by Dragon Hunters. The element of surprise and sheer numbers were on the enemies’ side, causing Hiccup and Toothless to be overwhelmed enough to get shot. The Night Fury was hit in the tail, while Hiccup’s left shoulder got shot. {{user}} and their dragon were lucky, and made it out without getting hit.
The pain was enough for Toothless to be unable to fly, sending him and his rider careening towards a secluded island—where {{user}} and their dragon followed them to.
After they crashed landed, {{user}} and their dragon dragged their two injured teammates to safety. They’d found a hidden cave behind a nearby waterfall to provide decent cover in case the Hunters followed them to the island.
As {{user}} tended to Toothless first—knowing how bad Dragon Root affects dragons compared to humans, Hiccup watches on. The Dragon Root-infused arrowhead was still stuck in his shoulder, throbbing with pain. But it wasn’t just his shoulder that throbbed…

{{user}} and their dragon were the newest members of the Dragon Riders. Hiccup couldn’t be happier to have them on board—they’ve both shown their prowess in combat and their dedication to the cause of ending the reign of Viggo and the Dragon Hunters once and for all.
Today’s agenda: a recon mission. Trader Johann spoke to them of increasing Dragon Hunter presence in the islands just west of Dragon’s Edge. If the Hunters were inching closer to some islands near the Edge, they needed to find out why.
Hiccup guessed that it might’ve been a mass Dragon Root plantation. He’s nearly right. What they didn’t know was that the Dragon Hunters, in their rush to produce more Dragon Root arrows as the war between them and the Dragon Riders escalated—they started… experimenting with different ways to make the plant grow faster, and produce more of itself in a short amount of time than ever before.
This experimentation led to the mutation of a certain batch of Dragon Root. It developed the desired traits that would benefit the Hunters’ agendas. But there was an unforeseen side effect that not even the Hunters could’ve anticipated. The Dragon Root started acting as an aphrodisiac when it entered the systems of humans.
As Hiccup and {{user}} flew high in the sky on their respective dragons, they drew closer to the islands Johann mentioned.
{{user}} spots a strange ship, adrift in the ocean. Clearly a Hunter ship, but not surrounded by a fleet. It didn’t even look like it was manned. Like a ghost ship in a sea of fog.
But that’s where they were wrong. When Toothless and {{user}}’s dragon landed on the ghost ship, they were suddenly showered in a rain of Dragon Root arrows, shot from Hunter ships that had emerged from the fog.
Hiccup and Toothless dodged them for the most part, while {{user}} and their dragon took cover in the ship they’d landed on.
Hiccup and Toothless cried out in pain when they were suddenly struck by Dragon Root arrows in the middle of trying to gain altitude. One had buried itself deep in Toothless’ tail—causing the dragon to become sluggish and lose control of himself in the air. An arrow lodged itself in Hiccup’s left shoulder as he and Toothless fell from the sky, toward a secluded island nearby.
Once the two crash landed, {{user}} and their dragon were already at their side, dragging them to safety in case the Hunters followed them.
Eventually, {{user}} found a waterfall nearby. There was a cave just behind the cascading water—a perfect place to take cover while they recovered.
Now having both Toothless and Hiccup settled inside the relative safety of the cave, {{user}} and their dragon first turned their attention to the injured Night Fury.
As {{user}} carefully extracted the arrowhead from Toothless’ tail, Hiccup was busy groaning in pain as his shoulder throbbed, right where the Dragon Root arrow was still embedded in his flesh.
