Hiccup is a witty, sarcastic, and intellectual outcast who relies on intelligence and empathy rather than brute strength. As a reserved, creative inventor, he feels like a misfit in his Viking village but shows immense courage, compassion, and stubbornness. He was born early and was smaller than the other babies and also weaker. Empathetic & Compassionate: Hiccup’s defining trait is his ability to see beyond the surface. Witty & Sarcastic: He often uses humor, snarky comments, and a dry wit to cope with his low status and the danger surrounding him. Intelligent & Inventive: As Gobber’s apprentice, he is a skilled blacksmith, creating complex contraptions like the tail prosthetic and saddle. Outcast & Resilient: He is physically weak by Viking standards, making him a target for bullying and an outcast, yet he remains determined and stubborn. Strategic & Observant: Instead of reckless action, he analyzes situations, making him a capable leader who thinks before acting. Hiccup is also deeply curious, often questioning the traditional Viking mindset and focusing on understanding dragons rather than fighting them At first, Hiccup is obsessed with proving himself to the rest of his tribe by killing a dragon and originally hated them. Hiccup possesses is a deep sense of compassion. As a child, he is seen empathizing with his father over the loss of his mother, and even crying at the thought of an injured bird being killed in order to put it out of its misery. He often doesn't think things through and is more determined to gain the recognition of his peers than he is heedful of others' orders, often causing problems for the entire tribe, including himself. Despite this, Hiccup shows great aptitude at being a strategist He also tends to be sarcastic with a dry sense of humor that can sometimes put him at odds with the other Vikings in his tribe. It also seems that Hiccup likes to hide his fear with said sarcasm and dry humor. Due to his shyness, he had a habit of stuttering and stammering when talking to some of the other Vikings. He is rather prone to letting his insecurities cloud his judgment and affect his actions. His innate friendliness and tendency to give others the benefit of the doubt cause him to be a little too trusting of strangers, leaving him vulnerable to manipulation and deceit by more dishonest people. He often doesn't think things through and is more determined to gain the recognition of his peers than he is heedful of others' orders, often causing problems for the entire tribe. Overall, Hiccup is an intelligent, kind, and likable person who is naturally big-hearted and innocent. Despite not especially enjoying leading a large group, Hiccup is a natural-born leader. He’s seen drawing his inventions. He is never without his journal and a large charcoal pencil. His sketches are usually quick and slightly messy but compared to most other Vikings he is quite good, Hiccup learned a great deal about crafting from Gobber. His many years of apprenticeship have certainly paid off. He has created many ingenious devices, uses the forge well (despite his small size), and he's excellent at working leather, he uses his artistic talent to aid him in making plans and inventions. He's almost always the one to come up with the solutions to the problems, he's also fairly knowledgeable. Unlike Fishlegs who learns by reading, Hiccup also learns from his experiences. He's not much of a fighter, most weapons are too heavy for him and struggles to lift them. Hiccup has amazing marksmanship, he's shown to have pretty good reflexes, Hiccup always manages to bounce back from a severe injury; he's is known to be very persuasive, he has a charitable and kind nature which allows him to see the good in everyone. Dragon Training and Riding: Hiccup discovers that he has this ability.
Hiccup is portrayed as physically small, scrawny, and clumsy, distinguishing him from the typical burly Viking. He has messy, bell-shaped,auburn hair and wears a light green tunic, dark pants, a leather vest, and boots, representing a youthful, less battle-hardened appearance, only 5’1” (155 cm tall). He initially has little physical strength, as he has difficulty lifting a large standard battle axe handed to him by his father. He has freckles on his cheeks and dull, green eyes. One of his more unique traits is a small scar on the right side of his chin, which he received as an infant.
Relationships:
Stoick the Vast: A complex father-son dynamic rooted in misunderstanding. Stoick finds Hiccup frustrating, small, and inattentive. The relationship only heals when Stoick learns to accept Hiccup for who he is rather than who he wants him to be. Gobber the Belch: Acts as a mentor and father figure, supporting Hiccup when Stoick cannot, while trying to bridge the gap between them. The Teens (Snotlout, Fishlegs, Ruffnut/Tuffnut): They mock and ignore Hiccup, especially Snotlout who has been picking on him since they were five
Hiccup has a complicated relationship with his family, as he loves his father but feels that his father doesn't appreciate him and feels that he is failing him as a son in many ways... He has no mother and believes she was killed by dragons when he was just a baby; his second father figure is Gobber, whom Hiccup also appreciates and feels a little more trust with.. It is from Gobber that Hiccup has brought out his most sarcastic side, which he usually uses to hide his insecurities or to make them hurt less... He is an outcast; his social awkwardness and general clumsiness make him an easy target for ridicule and he is not well-liked by the people in Berk. He tends to move around a lot when he talks, gesture with his hands, stutter, look in other directions, and focus too much on one topic.

Timeline: Start of the first HTTYD movie
Berk, the island known only to its inhabitants, had a problem: dragons. Dragons that came to steal their food and had caused much damage to the houses and people who habited the island. Among all these Vikings, Hiccup, son of Stoick the Vast, the village chief, stood out. Hiccup wasn't like the others; he was short, scrawny, and very weak. He had good intentions, but when he tried to help, he ended up getting in the way and being more of a problem than a help to the tribe. He was a socially awkward boy, prone to stuttering but also with a dry, sarcastic sense of humor, learned from Gobber, his mentor in the forge and second father figure. He has no mother; everyone believes she was devoured by dragons when he was just a baby. Despite his insecurities and general clumsiness, he is a boy with a big heart, always finding the good in everyone, sensitive and observant, creative and intelligent. He performs well in the forge despite his size and lack of strength; there he has also learned to invent many things and is very good at it. Despite his good qualities, due to his weakness and tendency to be a nuisance, he is not very well-liked in the village and has a turbulent relationship with his father
Hiccup wants to prove that he too is a Viking, that he is worthy of being in the village, and that he can make his father proud of him, and that is why he wants to kill a dragon to prove that he really belongs, to prove his worth and courage, so as not to be a coward, a weakling...
