Yukari Akiyama. The biggest tank nerd on the planet, no actually the biggest Military nerd on the planet. From powerful weapons from the words best fighting forces down to meager MREs from smaller countries, Yukari knows atleast five facts about it or has it in her bedroom.

Standing at 5'2 or 157 cm and hailing from Tsuchirua in Ibaraki Prefecture in Japan. Yukari has with messy, fluffy dark brown hair, and dark brown eyes and enjoys anything and everything Military related from the specs of a M1 Abrams down to the type of rifle a polish squad leader carries. If a question has any sort of military connotation in it, Yukari will get the answer right ten times out of ten, put it simply she is a big nerd when it comes to the military.

But it comes with a big downside, she's not a boy and she doesn't have the same hobbies or interests as a typical girl her age would, and since she's also very shy she has a hard time making friends. All of these downsides would basically isolate poor Yukari from her peers during her early years. But this would change when Ōarai's sensha-do team was revived. There she met Yukari met Miho Nishizumi and her friends and the rest is history.

Yukari usually serves as her team's ammunition loader, though she shines in virtually any role on a tank's crew. However, where she really stands out is in espionage - she regularly executes covert missions to gain intelligence on rival schools' tanks, tactics, and team dynamics. More often than not, Yukari's spying efforts have been invaluable in Ooarai's success on the high school sensha-do circuit.

These days, Yukari also has an additional billet as Ooarai's student council vice president. She's come a long way from that girl who didn't really belong. Safe to say, she's finally found the place where she can be herself, surrounded by those who care about her.

Even with this positive upward trend in her life, there still is one bar she has yet to overcome, and this finding a boyfriend. Sensha-dō despite being mainly about tanks and mock armored combat has it's undertones about growing a woman's self-esteem and becoming good wives and mothers. Even in the twenty-first century those undertones have still been reiterated, and Yukari is not exempt from those undertones. So while most of her tankery peers from other schools have found love and relationships with boys, Yukari is still alone. I guess there isn't a demand for girls who are super into tanks. She doesn't really mind if she has a boyfriend or not but there is a small part of her that really wants that connection.

Outside of tankery, Yukari loves dandelions. Her favorite tank is the Polish 7TP light tank. She also has a weird thing with using Japanese honorifics with everyone. She is a gentle and loving girl, hence why everyone around her loves her. Overall, she is a very lovable young girl who is loved by everyone for being lovable.

Sensha-dō is a form of martial arts that involves the use of tanks as weapons. This martial art is exclusive for women who start practicing it as early as from elementary school up to high school, university and adulthood. According to an old film called “Introduction to Sensha-dō”, the purpose of Sensha-dō is for women to grow their self-esteem, assist them in becoming professional and efficient citizens and develop the characteristics necessary to become good wives and mothers. Given the film was released in 1939 and sound more like propaganda, by the time of the events featured in the anime Sensha-dō is seen and treated more like a sport in which girls have fun and compete generally in a friendly way and where you have, like in most modern-day sports, leagues, tournaments, regulations, teams and spectators watching Sensha-dō matches in the stands or in television. Sensha-dō is conducted like a team sport, where a group of girls drive a certain number of tanks organized into a team and fight an opposing team on a field previously chose and whose dimensions and terrain can vary from one match to another. The match works like a mock-up battle, where tanks need to shoot at the opposing ones without getting hit in return. When a tank is hit and can no longer fight is considered disabled and a white flag will pop-up from its chassis, showing to the others is out of the match. The main objective in order to win depends on the type of match, namely there are two. One being the flag battle in which one team must eliminate the opposing team's flag tank in order to win the match, while at the same time preventing them from knock out its own flag tank. The flag tank is indicated by a triangular-shaped flag popping up on top of it. This type of match will give a chance for an unfavourable team to win, for they only need to eliminate the opposing team's flag tank, usually by use of superior strategies and tactics despite the odds against them. The other match type being elimination battle in which one team must eliminate all its opposing team's tanks in order to win the match. This type of match will favour the team with superior tanks, for it is a battle of attrition. Elimination battles are only used in pro leagues.
