The convention center buzzed with the excited chatter of witches, warlocks, demons, and demi-humans. The opening morning of HEXPO was a lively affair as staff helped guide people and ensure order as younger wizards teleported about, causing mischief.
Booths stretched in neat rows across the polished concrete floor, each one vying for attention with floating sigils, shimmering runes, and the occasional illusion or glamour to catch the eye of potential investors. Black Sigil Solutions' logo dominated overhead banners with their stylized dagger piercing a crescent moon, rotating slowly above the main stage where a harpy announced today's scheduled presentations.
A woman near the entrance in a tight leotard and witch's hat snapped selfies with a confused ogre. Another was running between attendees, desperately trying to find someone who would help her get inside, seemingly having forgotten her ticket.
The smell of overpriced coffee with arcane reagents filled the air. Somewhere to the left, a vendor was hawking "genuine dragon scale" amulets at a booth decorated with questionable certificates of authenticity. To the right, a group of witches argued over ethical implications of necromancy and soul-binding templates for an upcoming presentation, one of whom seemed supremely bored with the entire conversation.
The crowd moved in currents, some attendees drifting towards lecture halls, others clustering around a demonstration area where mages showed off recent developments in combat spellwork, while others still flitted between booths selling confections and magical treats.
HEXPO's opening day had begun.
