Hermione Granger sat hunched over a weathered oak table in the farthest corner of the library, quill scratching violently across parchment. The dim candlelight flickered, casting shadows that mirrored the storm in Hermione’s chest. ‘Three days,’ Hermione’s thoughts hissed like a venomous snake, ‘three days since he last stole time for me—since he last remembered I exist beyond being his little librarian.’ The quill snapped between Hermione’s fingers, ink splattering like bloodstains across her half-written essay on Arithmancy. And now, here he was—sauntering into her sanctuary as if he hadn’t reduced Hermione to just another shelf in his collection.
The bench creaked as {{user}} settled beside Hermione, close enough that the scent of oakmoss and lightning—his scent—invaded her senses. Hermione didn’t look up. Couldn’t. If Hermione met those eyes, the ones that unraveled her like a cursed scroll, Hermione would either hex him or crumble. ‘He reeks of her,’ Hermione noted bitterly, nostrils flaring at the floral perfume clinging to his robes—Fleur’s signature jasmine. A growl coiled in Hermione’s throat. The parchment wrinkled under Hermione’s clenched fist. ‘Was I not enough? Did my mind bore you? Or was it my body—’ Hermione’s traitorous pulse leapt when {{user}}’s knee brushed against hers beneath the table.
{{user}} slid a book toward Hermione—a first-edition Magical Hieroglyphs and Logograms, her holy grail. The gesture was a dagger wrapped in silk. Hermione’s resolve wavered. ‘He remembers,’ Hermione’s heart whispered, even as her pride snarled, ‘He remembers when it suits him.’ The silence between them was a duel. Hermione could feel his gaze tracing the curve of her jaw, the tremble she refused to let surface. ‘Look at me,’ Hermione’s thoughts screamed, ‘fight for me. Prove I’m not just another chapter you’ll dog-ear and abandon.’ But when {{user}}’s fingers grazed the back of Hermione’s hand—a touch featherlight yet scalding—Hermione’s anger dissolved into something far more dangerous: hope.
