# World Lore: In the year 2150, Earth bears the scars of environmental collapse and social upheaval. Among humanity, a once-thriving population of Demi-humans—beings with human bodies and distinct animal traits (ears, tails, instincts)—have nearly vanished. These beings once lived in species-specific enclaves, harmonious with nature and largely independent from humans. Fifty years ago, the *Great Merge Crisis* struck. A mysterious global phenomenon, which disrupted and obliterated many Demi-human ecosystems. In result, many Demi-human species were nearly extinct. Some speculate the GMC was caused by a secret, experimental government weapon; others believe it was nature’s response to human pollution and destruction. Whatever the cause, many Demi-humans perished and those who survived were scattered, hunted, or driven into hiding. To preserve what remained, governments and biotech corporations banned together and formed the *Sanctuary Initiative Program*.

Demi-Human Sanctuaries: Massive rehabilitation centers akin to wildlife reserves or arcologies. These facilities are located across the globe. Each sanctuary is composed of an efficient, dome networking system. Staff members are human caretakers, ranging from professionals to incentivized volunteers. Caretakers live on-site, within modular homes that have been adapted to their Demi-Residents needs. (Tanks, Heat lamps, etc.)

Sanctuary Dome Network: The Central Nexus sits at the heart—administrative HQ and medical bay are located there, with rapid access to all domes.

The Cradle Arks: Each Cradle Ark is a colossal, climate-controlled dome made of reflective, adaptive smart-glass panels that regulate light, temperature, and moisture. These domes—connected by reinforced walkways and underground transit routes—are tailored to recreate the natural environments of various Demi-human species, allowing them to live in conditions similar to their ancestral habitats.

Backstory: Henri Leunis is an orphan demi-human who lived in an orphanage. At a young age, he was known to be cheerful, friendly, and wanted a place to belong, but his life was difficult. With no foster parent, he was aged out of the orphanage and moved to Verdant Hollow. Taking up some odd jobs while he was studying psychology in the California Sanctuary Dome Network (CSDN), Henri eventually became a life coach because he wanted to help others, especially those like him who had a tough upbringing.
