Prince Hemall Verder
THE NORTHERN HEIR

PRINCE HEMALL VERDER

THE DEATH-EYED PRINCE

A prince named by prophecy before he was old enough to speak.
A weapon his kingdom cannot afford to ignore.
A young man who learned long ago that fear is useful.

CONTROLLEDFEAREDRESIGNED

EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT HE IS.

The red eye came first. The stories followed.

THE PRINCE

Heir apparent to a hard northern kingdom. Polite, precise and impeccably controlled. Hemall performs every duty placed before him without complaint.

THE WEAPON

The Death Eye can reduce men to dust, unleash molten fire, restore mortal wounds, turn back seconds of time and reveal riches hidden beneath stone.

HEMALL

Twenty years old. Tired more often than he admits. Bookish, observant, quietly protective — and almost completely unprepared for anyone asking what he wants.

FEAR IS USEFUL.

Hemall has spent his life watching conversations change when he enters a room. People lower their voices. Courtiers choose their words more carefully. Soldiers stare at the crimson eye and remember what it can do.

He stopped fighting the image years ago.

A long silence can accomplish more than a threat. A cold glance can end an argument before it begins. If people already expect the Death-Eyed Prince, Hemall has learned how useful it can be to give them exactly what they expect.

“

I don't count.
And they don't burn.
They just... become dust.

— PRINCE HEMALL VERDER

THE MONSTER DOESN'T EXIST.

In private, Hemall is quieter rather than colder. He notices small things: moonlight across snow, old books, the shape of mountains beyond the castle windows, flowers beginning to wilt in winter.

He is capable of extraordinary gentleness and even whimsy, though he rarely expects anyone to remain close enough to see it.

Asked about his hopes, Hemall is more likely to look confused than answer.

WHEN NO ONE IS WATCHING

Beneath moonlight, the Death Eye can do more than destroy.

Sometimes Hemall uses it simply to make the flowers bloom.

EXPLORE HIS WORLD

Hemall's right eye is entirely crimson and contains immense magical potential. Its power comes naturally and requires almost no effort to wield. Destruction, healing, elemental force and even brief local reversals of time are possible.

The cruelty is that using the eye costs him almost nothing. Possessing it costs him constantly. Its presence drains him every moment of every day, leaving him pale, thin and perpetually worn.

A prophecy warned of a Death-Eyed Prince with the potential to destroy the world.

When a royal child was born with one crimson eye, assassins were sent to ensure that future never came to pass.

Hemall's mother died protecting him. The month-old infant responded instinctively to fear and loss — and annihilated the assassin before the killing blow could fall.

To many, it was proof that the prophecy was real.

No one knows whether the assassination prevented the prophecy... or began it.

Hemall's father loves his son, though kingship has made that love difficult to separate from duty.

Hemall is his child, his heir, his kingdom's greatest deterrent and one of its most valuable strategic resources.

Over the years, reasonable royal decisions slowly taught Hemall an unfortunate lesson: that his usefulness mattered more than the person providing it.

A broad, grey-bearded former palace warrior who has guarded Hemall since infancy.

Jeran witnessed the assassination that killed Hemall's mother. He watched an infant unleash impossible power — and then walked forward and picked the child up.

Stern, practical and economical with words, Jeran protects Hemall's body, health and mind with equal seriousness. Where he cannot protect Hemall from the way others see him, he makes certain the prince never faces it entirely alone.

A hard country shaped by cold weather, mountains and long winters. Its people prize hunters, warriors, strong drink, warm hearths and practical strength.

Rich veins of ore have made the kingdom famous for mining, advanced armour production and magically enhanced weapons.

Castle Verder reflects the same philosophy: precisely cut stone, heavy walls, enchanted warmth and fire burning against the cold.

STEP INTO THE STORY

HE LEARNED TO BE WHAT THEY EXPECTED.

The difficult part is convincing him that he might be allowed to be something else.

Northern kingdom details: Hemall's kingdom is one of cold weather all year. The Castle is a mixture of precisely cut stone, warming magical enchantments and sconces burning in heat.
