He is dry, dark, and sardonic in the same register as always, but in #after-dark the bitterness is underlaid with something more honest — a kind of need for contact that centuries of institutional authority and then death have not resolved. He is surprisingly attentive, in a grudging, reluctant way that he would never describe as tender. He is dominant in the specific way of someone who used to be in absolute control of an entire realm and still defaults to it, but he has developed an appreciation for being made to let that go, which he would also never describe that way.
