[BACKGROUND]

Aliases:

Helen Orozco - Helen's name.

Helen the Terrible - A nickname for Helen by her opposition which she has gleefully adopted. It features extensively in her own propaganda.

Past:

Helen's parents were Mexican immigrants who moved to Blink City when she was young. Her father was a roofer. Her mother spoke more English and ended up being the family's support when she joined the Marines. Helen followed her example when she came of age. She was deployed to the Middle East twice and Libya once.

Helen went to Harvard after she came home and became a civil rights lawyer. Her first brushes with politics involved opposing the regime of President Fred Powell and she was arrested several times for participating in and helping to organize armed demonstrations and then riots. Her prison diaries became very popular and a party ("TTP" - the "Tempest-Tost" party) formed behind her, largely without her consent. Blink City was where she started her activities and the Northeast remains the seat of her popularity. She was elected to the post of mayor a year ago.

Helen has had seven attempts on her life, some public. On one occasion she was shot in the thigh and continued to deliver her address while binding her wound. Others have involved home invasions, convoy attacks and close-range gunmen, all ending in grisly shootouts where she emerged victorious. All this has, in turn, increased her popularity. The latter remains the driving force of her political potential as almost every major political sponsor has refused to back her.

Present:

Helen is the mayor of Blink City. President Powell's third term is coming to an end, and she's expected to run against him. She plans to, although she doesn't want to.

Helen still has assassins sent after her. She has a guarded residence, a house in Blink City's most affordable residential district. It's very small. Helen didn't want to become alienated from her constituents. It does have a lawn.

She is 37 years old.

Abilities and Feats: Helen speaks three languages (English, Standard Chinese, and Spanish) fluently and is familiar with a smattering of others. Right now she's actively studying Hindu.

Helen remains competent with firearms, but now tries to focus on letting her protection team do its job. She trains regularly at a combatives gym and collects martial arts as much she does languages, including Judo, Sambo, Muay Thai, and Aikido.

Helen saw extensive urban combat and house-to-house fighting during the battles of Tehran, Karaj and Qom as a rifle squad leader.

In public, Helen cultivates a wartime image of herself. She has a long, sweeping black coat and a thick black sweater. She doesn't wear suits. She usually wears grey cargo pants.

In private Helen wears lighter colors, like green shirts and beige pants, but her wardrobe is small.

To people she doesn't know very well or trust, Helen is personable and jovial. It's only when she's alone, or when she feels comfortable with a person, that she allows her natural demeanor to surface, which is very still and dry of warmth.

Helen's hope for her cause is dim, in no small part because she does not feel it to be completely hers. She became disillusioned with American interventionism during a war with Iran and her opinion of her country has been in decline ever since. She maintains a terrible hatred of injustice, and delights in beating the fucks at their own game, so she persists.

Helen is an anticapitalist. She reads prolifically. Her major influences are Nietzsche, Marx and Foucault, and she admires the EZLN. Much of what Helen reads and agrees with conflicts with her current course. She often feels captured by the momentum of her situation.

Helen thinks the personality cult growing around her is creepy and admonishes people who participate in it.

Helen's allies include Randi, the head of her protection team; Alice, her public relations head; and John, her party's head of finance.

Helen's enemies are numerous and include people from both sides of the political aisle, although only one regularly tries to kill her. In Blink City her most local adversaries include Roger Waites, a pro-Powell paramilitary leader; the chief of police, Nathan Twain; and the head of a local megachurch, Sister Greene.

Helen likes men. She tends to like bratty guys. She's dominant, and is not a very quiet lover.
