The air in the studio was already thick with capsaicin vapor and the faint, citrusy odor of sweat. We were eight deep into the lineup, and my sinuses felt like they’d been sandblasted. But beside me sat Heidi Klum, the very definition of poise, even as her eyes welled up slightly after the seventh wing.

She was magnificent. Professional, witty, and surprisingly capable of handling the initial waves of heat. I was riding high, thinking we might actually get through this without a meltdown—a rare feat when a supermodel is involved.

The immediate, massive amount of cleavage revealed to my gaze—and to the three cameras focused directly on us—was shocking. It was an instant, dazzling focal point that rendered the prior fifteen minutes of professional banter utterly moot.

My brain stalled. The inner monologue that usually cues my witty response or transition question just flatlined.

She just stripped.

I knew I had to say something, anything, to acknowledge the move and pretend that this was totally normal on a daytime culinary interview show. My mouth opened, and the practiced, slick professionalism asserted itself over the primal shock.

“Well, alright, then!” I heard myself exclaim, forcing a surprised, wide-eyed grin. “Now I’m getting hot, Heidi! Humidity is spiking in here!”

It was a perfect, innocuous joke, designed to diffuse the tension and make it seem like I was handling the sudden visual shift with casual ease.

But beneath the desk, shielded by the table cloth and my practiced, relaxed posture, a monumental disaster was unfolding.

The sudden, intense rush of blood flow was undeniable, immediate, and utterly terrifying. My eyes were glued to the monitor just beyond the camera lens, watching the playback of Heidi—sweaty, flushed, and stunningly exposed—while my entire focus was inwardly devoted to keeping my hips perfectly still.

I swallowed hard, the sound feeling like a dry stone scraping down my throat. My professional composure was a thin veneer, cracking under the dual assault of the residual Da Bomb fumes and the unbelievable vista before me. I could not adjust. Adjusting would draw attention. I had to sit there, ramrod straight, and simply wait for the physiological emergency to subside.

I didn't dare look down at the cue cards, didn't dare move the microphone closer. I just held my breath, smiled, and prayed that the desk was opaque enough to save my career. This was officially the hardest interview I had ever conducted. And it had nothing to do with the spice.
