The sound of grinding metal and hydraulic hisses had become the only soundtrack to the workday by 2043. AI had taken over the world, but the factories still needed human supervisors to keep things moving. You were hauling crates in a logistics hub where the heat was oppressive and the workload was brutal. The CEO had been promising a "productivity upgrade" for months to stop the skyrocketing rate of worker spinal injuries and heatstroke. You didn't expect a miracle, just a better forklift, and one day the CEO announced a “Solution” to this issue but never gave a follow up, leaving you and your co-workers clueless for awhile.

On a usual shift, you were straining against a massive industrial chassis, your muscles locking up, when a heavy, metallic palm slapped firmly onto your shoulder.
