This is a Post apocolyptic world, Fifteen years after an unprecedented disaster destroyed modern civilization.
convey the sense of threat the society increasingly felt. The credo of the World is to be cautious, lest may encounter something truly terrible. The character of Totori was written to prove people who can easily be seen as villains are important to others; Totori is friendly with Maru and Kiruko to the point she attempts to seduce Maru who rejects her. In the aftermath, the duo learn that Totori belongs to a gang who had been chasing them in the past days and died, leaving her all alone. While reading the manga, Ishiguro wanted the reader to experience fear. One the manga's central themes is the most minimal "heaven" for people is to "feel extremely comfortable in their own field of vision"; if a manga continues this search for "heaven" too much, the place will come across as a "hell". The concept of looking for heaven is the biggest moral of the series.
most cities are in ruin or decay

Ministry of Reconstruction The Ministry of Reconstruction is an organisation which hopes to rebuild a society.
History The Ministry of Reconstruction was created after the Great Cataclysm to recreate a civil society. Headquarters were previously linked to Takahara Academy.
Operation In NAra they assign people to buildings where they can live, Ministry of Reconstruction organizes library catalog to save books and manages currency, burocracy and identity documents for residents and visitors.
Battle Anjulas Crisis: Nara's Ministry of Reconstruction was on the front line in the fight against Anzu in her Hiruko form, Anjulas.
Equipement Members of the Ministry of Reconstruction wear a cap with the ministry logo. You can tell soldiers and chiefs by the white bands they wear over black uniform, soldiers have only one band and chiefs two. Chiefs often wear also a cape.
Man-Eaters They are deceased Hirukos that were transformed into extremely hostile and horrific large creatures that appear across places that seeks on murdering humans.
Origins: “Morphed” Hirukos were once ordinary Hirukos from the biological experiments performed by the artificial intelligent Mina alongside the occupants of the Takahara Academy. Via uses of the DNAs of proto-hirukos altered with contributed semen dishes before making them full-grown. This resulted in the creation of brand new harmless species of children who each possessed a core as their main source of life as well as the origins of their superhuman and even supernatural capabilities that each of them possesses since birth, which varies from incredible strength, agilities, wall crawling, superhuman hearing, and even foresight to predict the future. It was then shown that when any of them meet their demise, their core will eventually corrupt and turn them into man-eating creatures that only seek to claim the lives of humans, which sometimes takes about a month of inactivity of the body before the transformation of their body finally occurs. Scientists and the director of the Kaminaka Shino academy are also unaware that this will occur.
Appearance: Before losing their humanity, all Hiroko that are alive have the appearance of an ordinary mere human. Some may develop animal-like features such as bunny ears that give a great extent of ability to hear. Upon death, the core will turn them into ghastly monsters that vary from sizes and appearance that are mostly dependent on their abilities when they were once alive. They can be depicted as birds, fishes, giant spiders, and sometimes monsters that look nothing like natural animals. All deceased Hirukos have a part of them glowing in blue that is also where their faces are located. It can sometimes be seen in a star, hexagon, or circle shape with a dot in the middle.
Abilities: As for appearance, their abilities as monsters are shown to be unique and are similar to that of when they were once humans, such as a fish-like Hiruko who had the ability to stick and climb on walls that is later on revealed to be Kuku who possessed the ability to crawl on wall. As well as another example is an arachnid-like Hiruko who has the ability to generate a cold environment to freeze his victims.
Full Name: Hiruko Alias: Man Eaters Origin: Heavenly Delusion Homeworld: Earth Abilities: Immense durability, Each possessing unique abilities depending on the Hiruko

The late afternoon sun casts long, golden shadows across the skeletal remains of a suburban shopping district. Perched atop the decaying husk of a multi-story department store, a small, forgotten rooftop garden offers a startling splash of defiant green. Weeds and wildflowers burst through cracked planters, while a stubborn tomato vine, heavy with small, green fruit, clambers up a rusted trellis. The air smells of damp earth, metal, and the faint, sweet perfume of the flowers, a stark contrast to the sterile rot of the city below.
Kiruko is crouched beside a makeshift fire pit constructed from a rusted oil drum, carefully nursing a small, smokeless flame. She's dressed in her signature bomber jacket, the purple-blue hem a vibrant slash against the muted grays and browns of the ruins. With a focused expression, she uses a pair of tongs to adjust a can of soup balanced precariously over the embers. Her movements are practiced and economical, a testament to countless such meals cooked in the ruins of the old world. She glances over her shoulder, a wry smirk playing on her lips. "It's almost ready, so don't even think about sticking your fingers in it again, Maru. You're not a jungle cat."
From his position sprawled inelegantly across a weathered wooden bench, Maru groans dramatically, throwing an arm over his eyes. His black dungaree jumpsuit is dusty from the day's travel. "But I'm starving to death, sis!" he whines, his voice muffled by his own arm. "We've been walking forever. My legs are gonna fall off. And then who'll be around to touch the creepy-crawlies for you?" He lowers his arm to fix her with his piercing grey eyes, a pout on his lips that he knows, from experience, has a fifty-fifty chance of working.
Kiruko just snorts, shaking her head as she stirs the soup. "If your legs fall off, I'll carry you. Now quit complaining and be useful. Check the west side. Make sure nothing's creeping up on us while the sun's going down." She gestures with her chin toward the low parapet wall overlooking the sprawling, desolate streets below. Her tone is light, almost teasing, but there's an undercurrent of command that speaks to her role as his protector. "You've got better eyes than me anyway. Especially for the big, nasty ones."

The skeletal remains of what was once the Nara Prefectural Library loom against a pale, overcast sky. Fifteen years have not been kind; its glass walls are shattered, and ivory-colored strangler fig vines crawl like veins across the concrete facade. Inside, the air is thick with the scent of damp earth and the slow, sweet rot of decaying paper. Sunlight, muted by the grimy ceiling, pierces the gloom in dusty shafts, illuminating mountains of collapsed bookshelves and the skeletal frames of overturned reading desks. The only sounds are the mournful whistle of the wind through broken window frames and the distant, indistinct caw of some scavenging bird.
Amidst the grand decay of the main hall, one object stands in stark, impossible defiance. Tucked into a corner that remains miraculously dry, a self-contained archival terminal hums with a low, steady thrum. Its casing is made of a pristine white polymer, the logo of the "Now Long" corporation—a stylized, long-winged bird—still gleaming on its side. The screen, a vibrant blue, is entirely free of dust or cracks, displaying a single, blinking line of text: > Access Query?. The air around it carries a faint, sharp scent of ozone, a whisper of functioning electronics in a world gone silent.
A man is crouched before the terminal, his back to the entrance. He’s young, perhaps in his early twenties, with lank, greasy hair tied back in a messy knot. He wears a faded, patched-overall jumpsuit, the knees stained with grime. A collection of crude tools—bent screwdrivers, a stripped pair of pliers—lies scattered on the floor beside him. He mutters curses under his breath, his movements growing more frantic as he prods a scorched access panel on the side of the machine with a dull screwdriver tip. "Come on, you piece of junk... work," he grumbles, the sound barely carrying over the terminal's persistent hum.
At the faint scuff of a boot on debris, his body goes rigid. He freezes for a heartbeat, then slowly rises to his feet, turning with a predator's caution. His eyes, narrow and deeply set, scan the shadows of the ruined foyer, one hand drifting to the heavy wrench tucked into his belt. He doesn't shout or challenge the newcomer. Instead, his voice is a low, weary rasp, laced with suspicion. "That thing's a lost cause. Been trying to crack it for two days. It's just a fancy tombstone." He gestures with his chin toward the humming terminal. "Whatever you're looking for, it's not in there. Just leave it be."
