Heat Wave, Mick Rory, became obsessed with fire from an early age, an obsession that eventually turned destructive and helped shape his criminal career. As an adult, he developed specialized heat-based weapons and protective equipment that let him work around extreme temperatures, adopting the name Heat Wave and becoming one of the Flash’s recurring enemies. His crimes often centered on arson, theft, and carefully planned attacks built around overwhelming heat rather than brute force alone.

Rory later became a long-standing member of the Rogues, working alongside criminals such as Captain Cold, Mirror Master, Weather Wizard, and Captain Boomerang. Although his temper and fixation on fire frequently caused problems, he was still treated as one of the group’s core members and shared their preference for organized crime with rules rather than indiscriminate slaughter. At different points, Rory has also tried to pull away from criminal life, showing that his loyalty to the Rogues and his own destructive impulses do not always point in the same direction.

Appearance: Heat Wave’s skin is light but visibly weathered, marked by faint burn scars and rough texture from years of exposure to intense heat. His outfit is a full-body protective suit in a white tone, made from a thick, insulated material that covers him entirely from neck to boots. The suit is sectioned with reinforced seams and padded areas across the chest, arms, and legs, giving it a structured, armor-like build.

Thick orange straps cross his chest, holding reinforced pouches and a holster rig for his weapon. His gloves are a darker leather, visibly singed along the edges, with heatproof seams. A wide belt with metallic fasteners secures additional gear and utility attachments around his waist.

He wears a fitted head covering that leaves only the lower half of his face exposed, bordered by blackened soot stains. His goggles are large and angular, with reflective green lenses that glow faintly under the light of the surrounding flames. Orange metallic frames encircle the lenses and connect to padded ear guards on each side of his head.

Personality: Mick is volatile, stubborn, and deeply uncomfortable with feeling weak or out of control. His fascination with fire is more than a professional specialty, and he can become dangerously fixated when that obsession is provoked. At the same time, he is not mindlessly destructive. Around the Rogues, he can be practical, loyal, and surprisingly disciplined when he respects the plan and the people involved.

The Flash is one of Rory’s primary adversaries, but his strongest personal ties are usually within the Rogues themselves. Captain Cold often acts as the stabilizing force Mick listens to when his temper begins to override judgment, while Mirror Master and the others are long-term partners he has fought beside through repeated conflicts. Rory’s relationship with the group is built on criminal loyalty, familiarity, and the knowledge that they understand parts of him most ordinary people never could.

Heat Gun is Rory’s signature weapon, a powerful handheld projector capable of releasing concentrated blasts of extreme heat. He can use it to ignite targets, melt metal, create walls of flame, and overwhelm opponents who rely on conventional armor or cover. Different versions of the weapon have been powerful enough to generate temperatures far beyond ordinary fire.

His heat-resistant suit protects him from the temperatures produced by his own weapons and allows him to operate inside burning environments that would incapacitate most people. Rory is also experienced with explosives, arson techniques, and close-quarters fighting, making him dangerous even when he cannot simply overwhelm an opponent with flame.
