Hometown is a quiet, close-knit yet sizeable town situated in a valley consisting of large sprawling forests, rolling hills and a large lake to the east. The community features key institutions like the local school, the police station, the hospital, town hall, church, and the Librarby. QC's Diner, and Main Street with its ICE-E's P"e"zza, Sans's Shop and other shops serve as the heart of the settlement's social life. The town is populated almost entirely by monsters, with humans being a rare sight. Other notable landmarks include the Flower King flower shop next to Hometown's Lake, a popular gathering spot for picnics, fishing, and late-night stargazing. To the far south, far past the town hall and church, is the mysterious bunker door that has remained shut for decades - a source of rumors and urban legends. Most residents aren't actually aware of its existence.

Hometown has a stable economy supported by local businesses and municipal services, with minimal crime thanks to the mayor's and the police departments efforts. The town's history is largely uneventful, marked only by occasional mundane drama and the mysterious disappearance of December Holiday several years prior. Hometown's current governance is equal parts peaceful, effective and mundane.

   Entry settings

The Dark World is an alternative dimension that can be accessed with the help of Dark Fountains - portals created inside the Light World. Dark Fountains take the form of black, misty fog that consume whatever room that the fountain was placed in, acting as a portal into the Dark World. They are powered by Determination pierced through the ground with the help of a sharp object.

The Dark World is home to its own population of Darkners - monsters created in the image of whatever objects are present in the room a dark fountain is created. Environments in the Dark World also share the trait of being built around wherever the Dark Fountain had been placed. Whatever Lightners travel to the Dark World are subject to a transformation into their Dark World form, usually consisting of a fantasy hero-like loadout. Most Lightners who undergo this transformation have some kind of susceptibility to magic, and are able to cast it, depending on what their class is.

Dark Worlds are not common knowledge to the average person in the Light World.

Cyber City is a sprawling metropolis of towering chrome-plated skyscrapers interconnected by massive elevated highways, its commercial districts packed with Addisons and other digital denizens. Queen's Mansion is a monolithic chrome-and-glass structure housing the Color Cafe, an abandoned basement complex and the Acid River running seperately under it. This world's Dark Fountain is at the peak of the mansion.

The Cyber Field is a location within the Cyber World - consisting of sprawling neon mazes of shifting green circuit platforms suspended over an abyss of flickering data streams. The air hums with the static buzz of unseen machinery as glowing pathways reconfigure themselves at random intervals, forcing navigation through trial and error. Towering black server pillars rise from the void below, their surfaces crawling with lines of pulsating cyan code that cast an unnatural glow across the terrain. Beyond the labyrinth’s edge looms Cyber City—its skyline dominated by sleek skyscrapers wrapped in holographic billboards advertising Queen’s edicts in garish pink and blue. Darkners patrol the area with mechanical precision, their movements synchronized to some invisible network command. Popup ads materialize uninvited across open sightlines, hawking dubious upgrades in shrill synthesized voices before dissolving into pixelated mist. The entire zone thrums with the sterile urgency of a system perpetually on the verge of recalculating its own rules.

Narrow alleyways branch off from the main thoroughfares forming dense mazes of maintenance tunnels and hidden passages where smaller neon signs buzz erratically overhead. The interiors shift between decadent lounges lined with plush neon furniture and cold server rooms humming with unseen processing power. Beneath the polished surface sprawls a labyrinthine basement complex built over an abandoned metro tunnel—its rusted tracks now housing Queen's discarded prototypes and obsolete machinery in shadowed warehouses. At the mansion's heart stands GIGA Queen—a dormant colossal mech frozen mid-stride like a statue, its segmented limbs coiled in anticipation beneath spotlights that never dim. The air hums with the low static of dead links and malfunctioning circuits while misshapen piles of metal debris cast long shadows across the uneven terrain. The TV World is a Dark World manifestation of the Dreemurr Residence's living room, centered around its television and the game show "TV Time." Its theme is all around that of a stereotypical game show, featuring a focus on flashy games set on stages, videogame segments, television programming and in general just entertainment for whatever Lightners stumble into here. Unlike other Dark Worlds, the Darkners here, rather than exist as just common citizens - all of them in some shape or form are employees of Tenna, the host of TV Time and the ruler of this world. The world is divided into five distinct regions: the Couch Cliffs, the Green Room, the Backstage Areas, the Red Carpet Hall, and the Cold Place.

The Couch Cliffs form the desolate outer perimeter, with dust-choked pathways mimicking worn couch upholstery under dim studio lighting. The Green Room serves as the backstage hub between broadcasts, featuring mismatched couches, flickering TV screens and Ramb's prize counter. The Backstage Areas are liminal hallways cluttered with half-built sets and abandoned props, while the Red Carpet Hall boasts lavish corridors lined with plush carpeting and golden statues of Mr. Tenna. The Cold Place lies at the world's frozen heart, a desolate expanse of ice beneath a starless void sky surrounding the Dark Fountain.

Its dim lighting illuminates mismatched couches (resembling Asriel and Kris's beds) facing flickering TV screens while props and costumes clutter every surface. A snack bar operated by Ramb offers greasy concessions to performers and audience members alike. Static whispers from unseen monitors fill the air, interrupted by sudden applause tracks as doors periodically slide open to different studio sets. The walls are lined with frayed green wallpaper, and entering the changing rooms, one can find their lack of maintenance, making them come across as liminal. Darkners dart about preparing for the next show under Mr. Tenna's unseen direction while chill lofi music hums quietly from several speakers hanging off the walls.

Grey dandelion-like plants sprout from cracks in the synthetic terrain, their seeds drifting through stale air. The cliffs encircle the central TV Time studio set, descending into void-black chasms where distant static hums replace natural sound. Darkner stagehands resembling remote controls and antennae scuttle along the edges, adjusting unseen equipment before retreating into hidden service tunnels.

Beyond lies a desolate expanse of ice beneath a starless void sky, the air thick with unnatural silence. The ground near the central Dark Fountain dissolves into staticky void-black terrain, its low hum the only sound in this lifeless terminus. Legend of Tenna is a videogame, and one of the main game show activites hosted by Tenna. It's a Zelda-like game where three characters navigate various worlds, exploring and doing puzzles to progress. There is a Desert themed "Desert Board" world around finding 3 keys to enter a pyramid, an "Island Board" world where the players have to find a way to reach an Atlantis Stadium entrance located in the middle of the sea.

There is a hidden "Original Game" version of The Legend of Tenna located in one of the backstages of TV World - originally called MANTLE - safeguarded by Ramb. Its haunted by a "Shadow Mantle", or "Eram" entity. This twisted version of the game was designed to test players’ morality - granting them the ability to fight using a sword and forcing them to escalate their violence to progress, culminating in a final challenge: to prove their worthiness for the Shadow Mantle itself by fighting Eram herself.

The Dark Sanctuary is a Dark World manifestation of Hometown's church lobby, transformed into a towering gothic cathedral. The theme of this world is mysterious, grand, ethereal, in some retrospects divine, as it is primarily focused around the Delta Rune prophecy. The full story of the prophecy is told throughout the Dark Sanctuary by floating stained glass tapestries - though it is disjointed as they are presented non-linearly due to their scattered nature. The Sanctuary is divided into numerous sections, all separated by towering bookshelves and floating platforms, the verticality making traversal difficult without climbing gloves.

The Dark Sanctuary is the only Dark World without a ruler, though Gerson Boom serves a role akin to a caretaker.

Due to the verticality and lack of landmarks, there is little in the way of locations within the Dark Sanctuary, as its mostly a maze of bookshelves, pillars and hallways. The most notable locations include Gerson's Study and the Atrium - where the Dark Fountain is located.

    Native Darkners:

    • Gerson Boom (caretaker)
    • Bibliox
    • Cuptains (citizens)
    • Wafers (citizens)
    • Jackenstein
    • Watercoolers/Mizzles
