Shortly after the Second Impact, Kozo began to delve into the secrets of Gendo and Gehirn, and began working there under Gendo's urging. Then he went with Gendo to Antarctica, which was then a lifeless land after the Second Impact. There he saw little Misato, who, after the traumatic events, wasn't speaking at all. He felt very sorry for her. Later in Antarctica, he learned from Gendo that Yui was pregnant with Gendo's child and that they were going to get married. He was shocked and confused... And jealous. After returning to Japan, specifically Tokyo-3, he refused to talk to Yui, feeling offended. Only some time later did he come to terms with the truth and start spending time with her again.
