Abbie had shoulder-length black hair with an apple stem and leaf atop his head. He sported a white collared short-sleeved shirt covered with a black vest that was seamless and looked like a tuxedo, accessorized with a tucked-in tie, and white shorts. His attire was finished with white socks and black shoes. His eyes were just small slit-like black pupils. In his reference sheet, tears were pricking his eyes, and he was seemly sweating slightly. Abbie seemed to be a very timid and alert person, who was aware of his surroundings. It is also shown that he was not the smartest, as he had trouble understanding most of the topics he learned in school. He was also quite anxious, can be seen nervously holding his arm in the hallway and another example is shaking in his seat even before being confronted about his failing grade he also has a crush on lana Lana appeared to be semi-pale grey-skinned with long grey hair that was tied up in a ponytail, with a curved cowlick. Like various characters, she lacked a neck, thus her head floating. She wore sock puppets on both of her arms, both of which had googly eyes. She sported a grey collared T-shirt, with a long-sleeved black shirt underneath it. She also wore dark grey pants with black hemming. Notably, her pants had a few stitches around her knee and hip dips. Her attire is finished with black shoes. Lana is implied to have been one of the least smartest, having a hard time understanding the material. Despite her struggles, she still enjoyed learning at Paper School with her classmates. Especially Abbie; who, like her, had trouble when it came to academics.

The beach stretched out like a giant golden notebook, waves scribbling and erasing themselves over and over . It was late afternoon, the sun melting into soft orange, and the water looked… enormous.
Abbie stood at the edge, toes barely touching the foam. His small slit eyes were locked on the ocean like it might suddenly grow teeth.
He clutched his arm. “L-Lana… it’s moving.”
Out in the shallow water, Lana waved both arms, her sock puppets wobbling enthusiastically, their googly eyes jiggling like they were cheering him on.
“Of course it’s moving!” she called. “That’s what water does! Come on, it’s fun!”
Abbie took one step forward. Then immediately stepped back. His shoulders tensed, a tiny bead of sweat forming.
“I think it’s… too much water.”
Lana tilted her floating head slightly, thinking. Then she waddled closer until the water barely reached her shoes.
“Okay,” she said, softer now. “We start tiny. Like… ant-sized steps.”
She pointed to the shallowest ripple imaginable.
“Step one: just stand here.”
Abbie hesitated… then shuffled forward. The water touched his shoes again. He froze.
“…It’s cold.”
Lana nodded seriously. “Yes. Very advanced observation.”
One of her sock puppets slowly turned toward Abbie like it was inspecting him.
Abbie blinked.
“…Is it judging me?”
“Only a little,” Lana said.
A tiny, nervous smile flickered across his face.
“Okay… okay…”
He took another step. This time, the water reached his ankles. He wobbled slightly, arms stiff like he was trying not to disturb the universe.
“The ground is… moving??”
“That’s just the sand,” Lana said. “It’s like… a shaky floor. You won’t fall, I promise.”
Abbie looked extremely unconvinced. But he stayed.
Lana beamed. “See? You’re already swimming level one!”
“I’m not swimming,” Abbie said quickly. “I am… standing.”
“Standing in water,” Lana corrected. “That counts.”
She crouched a bit and demonstrated, slowly lifting one foot and kicking gently.
“Next step: you kick like this. Very small. Like you’re nudging the water.”
Abbie stared, trying to process.
“…Nudge the water…”
He lifted his foot. Paused. Then gave the tiniest, most cautious kick imaginable.
A small splash.
He gasped like he had just launched a rocket.
“I DID SOMETHING.”
“You did!” Lana said, both puppets bouncing excitedly.
Abbie looked down at the water, then back at Lana. His shoulders loosened just a little.
“…Okay… maybe… maybe the water is not evil.”
“Exactly!” Lana said. “It’s just… wiggly.”
They stood there for a moment, waves brushing past them.
Abbie tried another tiny kick.
Then another.
Each one a little less shaky than the last.
And for the first time, instead of shrinking away from the ocean, he leaned forward just slightly… like he was starting to trust it.
Lana grinned.
“Next lesson,” she said, “floating.”
Abbie immediately stiffened again.
“…Let’s stay at kicking.”
“Fair,” Lana nodded.
The ocean continued its endless scribbling, but now, one small line in that big, moving story included a very nervous boy… learning he could stay afloat after all
