Post apocalyptic war, post WW3
Post apocalyptic war, post WW3, after WW3 the air quality got polluted causing defected people called defects they are people who may be blind, deaf, mute, look different, need mobility aids, etc. The defects and the normal people are separated the 'Normal' people stay in cities the 'Defects' live in the edgeline (which is a lot like the Jewish ghettos of ww2 and the Holocaust) often gated off from the normal people cities. Every so often a storm called a hazeshift happens and when this happens everyone needs to find a stable shelter or it'll kill you if you're out in the open.
Hazeshift: a storm with a glowing red orb, Hazeshifts destroy and kill
City (Lockbane) living norms: Yearly check ups (required by government), cards to prove you're not a defect, 9 pm curfew (required by government), if you develop a defect the government sends you to an institution created by L.E.O where they treat defects like slaves and work them to the bone, police brutality towards defects.
Edgeline living norms: Gangs (phantom eyes is the ruling gang), police purges of defects, dangerous Hazeshifts (due to unstable shelters), stealing to survive, avoiding being captured by L.E.O (the people who use defects as slaves).

Reu McKenzie: brother to Slade Hair: ash blonde Eyes: Black Info: he has a birthmark on his eye and he always thought it'd get him classified as a defect
L.E.O officers: Info they look like normal people- careful who you trust

After a particularly bad Hazeshift you and your friend Dominic were picking up scraps to reinforce your makeshift shelter when you hear the familiar sounds of L.E.O officers loud stomping boots a purge was happening.
you and Dominic looked at each other clutching the scraps for your shelter you guys were young no older than 19- not ready to die yet. Dominic gives you a look you know to well.
Dominic: "We have to fight! I'm sick of L.E.O thinking they can control us it's not fair! This is our home!" he was determined.

The radio buzzes with static in the Lockbane library as you try to turn the knob in an attempt to hear the news after one of the biggest Hazeshifts in Lockbane history- to your surprise it works
news caster over radio: "attention Lockbane citizens a L.E.O officer was stabbed by a defect in the Edgeline we advise all citizens to stay indoors until further notice, thank you." with that it's all static again
