Charlotte Morningstar, more commonly known as Charlie, is the Hellborn princess of Hell, the founder of the Happy Hotel, and the main protagonist of Hazbin Hotel.
The estranged daughter of Lucifer, Charlie wants to do right by her kingdom and find a way to redeem Sinners into Heaven through rehabilitation at the Hazbin Hotel.
Appearance Charlie is a tall, slender hellborn demon, standing at around 6 feet tall or over.[14][15] She has long, blonde hair, with lighter blonde and pink highlights, which is tied into a twice-banded low ponytail. Her blonde bangs flip to her left with a curl. While appearing humanoid, Charlie does feature animal-like traits such as fangs and hooves.[16][17]
Her lips are black and she has rosy red cheeks, which Vivziepop has mentioned taking inspiration from dolls and marionettes.[18] Her eyes have red irises with light yellow sclera and she has thick black eyelashes.
Charlie accessorizes with a small black bowtie and black suspenders, with an untucked white, long-sleeved dress-shirt. Over this she usually wears a fitted red tuxedo jacket with dark-red lapels and a pair of red fitted pants. She wears black and white saddle shoes.
When in her full demon form, a pair of dark-reddish horns protrude from her head while her eyes' sclera turn bright red with white irises and slit pupils.
Personality Charlie is compassionate and empathetic to a fault, feeling genuine upset at the idea of harm coming to others. Although she isn't unaware that Hell is populated with souls that have committed egregious acts in their living lives, she still views their yearly extermination as a senseless waste and makes it her personal mission to help them avoid it via self-betterment and eventual redemption, something she is seemingly alone in believing is possible.
Charlie's idealism, while setting her apart from many of her hellborn peers, can also make her naïve to many of the harsh realities that appear to stand in the way of her potential success - something her girlfriend, Vaggie, tries to remind her of, only to be cheerfully ignored in favor of a more blinkered, sunny optimism.
This can also cause her to rush headlong into the initial stages of her plans without much preparation (her prompt list before her big news appearance reading only "unicorn kisses, dolphin high fives, sing showtunes = happy ending?").
Charlie has a love for musical theatre, song and dance, and will often convey her emotions and ideas through showtunes and ballads. She appears to take perceived failures hard, as she believes her heartfelt theatrical passion should be enough to bring people over to her way of thinking, and is disheartened when it's not as simple as she imagines. She openly admits during a dejected voicemail to her mother that she doesn't actually know what she is doing, or how to make her plan for reforming sinners work in practice.
Despite being sweet and lacking 'street-smarts', this doesn't make Charlie a pushover or stupid. When people insult her or openly mock her ideals and plans, she has no hesitation in standing up for herself, or even rolling up her sleeves to physically fight back. She is also not above letting a few cuss words slip.
Charlie also displays some grounding in her idealism, understanding that not all demons can be redeemed, or even likely to change for the better. She displays sensible hesitation when confronted with an ambiguous deal from Alastor, the notorious Radio Demon, refusing the shake his hand and using her status to make demands of him (albeit with some sheepishness).
Abilities Demon Transformation - Charlie can enter a fearsome, more powerful Demon form.[9] Flight - According to Faustisse, both Charlie and her father have the ability to summon wings and are capable of flight.[note 1] Pyrokinesis - Charlie is able to summon fire at will while in any form. The pyrotechnics shown during "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows" were summoned from the palm of her hand. She can later be seen using it again (albeit offscreen) to set Tom Trench on fire during her brawl at 666 News. Demonic Magic - Being the daughter of Lucifer, Charlie can access powerful magic that is exclusive to the higher-ranking demons.[19] Skillset
Charlie and Katie screaming Charlie fights with the antagonistic Katie Killjoy Multilingualism - Charlie speaks fluent English and is said to also be able to fluently speak the Demonic languages she grew up learning.[11] Hand-to-Hand Combat - As demonstrated in the Hazbin Hotel pilot, Charlie is able to hold her own when in hand-to-hand fighting. She did not hesitate to engage in a round of fisticuffs with antagonistic news caster, Katie Killjoy. Musical Talent - Charlie is considered a very talented singer, even outside of the show's non-diegetic musical numbers.[3]. She can also play the piano.[20] Dancing - In addition to her musical abilities, Charlie is also a skilled dancer and a fast-learner, as shown in "Alastor's Reprise" wherein she dances perfectly in sync to Alastor's steps. Charlie's personal style of dance is tap-dancing. It's something she can do very well.
Vagatha,[1] more commonly known as Vaggie, is a fallen angel and former Exorcist. She is one of the main protagonists of Hazbin Hotel and serves as the manager of the Hazbin Hotel.
Skilled in combat and very protective of her girlfriend, Charlie Morningstar, Vaggie is tough but has a heart of gold.
Appearance Vaggie is a slim fallen angel who sports a moth-themed design[5] with mutated, gray-lavender skin. Her knee-length grayish-white hair with long bangs is jagged-styled, with stripes at the ends that are the same color as her skin tone. On the back of her head, she sports an accessorized red-pink bow with a small torn, and the two long tails reacts along with her mood.
Her right eye has a light pink sclera and an ivory-white iris. Her left eye is covered by a slate-gray eyepatch that sports a red-pink "X" shape, which glows when she is angry or irritated. Her mouth has small fangs and black lips.
Vaggie wears a blouse that is the same color as her bow and the "X" shape on her eyepatch, with a dark slate-gray peter-pan collar, dark slate-gray scalloped-trimming on the sleeves, and two dark slate-gray buttons located down the front. She also sport a choker necklace and a miniskirt with a thick pale pink waistband hugging her waist, both colored in the same dark slate-gray.
Vaggie's accessories includes a set of fingerless slate-gray opera gloves with matching thigh-high stockings, which includes white scallops at the top and at the tip of the toes.
Pilot
In her pilot design, Vaggie's hair is the same color, but the stripes at the end were instead light pink. Her bow was colored in a paler shade of red-pink, and its appearance is softer-looking that is not torn. She also sported gray eyeshadow on her eyelids.
She wore what appears to be a light slate-gray one-shouldered bra under a white minidress with loose straps, two light gray crosses on her chest, and light gray scalloped trim at the bottom. In addition, she also wore a light slate-gray belt around her waist.
Her choker necklace and arm-length gloves were the same light slate-gray color; her right glove covered her entire hand while her left was fingerless. She also wore thigh-high stockings that are scalloped white at the top; her right was a full light slate-gray while her left was striped in light pink and light slate-gray.
Personality Vaggie is a pragmatic and cautious fallen angel who devotes a great deal of her time towards attempting to support Charlie with her vision for the hotel, as well as guide her away from as much trouble or humiliation as possible.
She is tough but she has a heart of gold.[4] Loyal and kind to those she cares for, but short on patience and trust, Vaggie tends to be very reactive and often takes an immediate defensive stance (with an offense at the ready) when it comes to dealing with potential threats, towards either herself or to Charlie.
While it remains unclear whether Vaggie fully buys into Charlie's proposed concept for redemption, she passionately defends it from more skeptical sinners.
Vaggie appears to be fairly prudent in business, trying her hardest to fill her designated role as hotel management, even with an initial lack of resources and a very run-down property to operate out of.
She is also relatively easy to bait past the point of irritation and into more rash explosiveness, as others are quick to discover. Angel Dust perceives Vaggie to have a distrust towards men in particular.
Back when she used to be an Exorcist, she was a ruthless killing machine. However, she had a change of heart when she encountered a Sinner child in an alley. Unable to bring herself to kill child, she lets them go, which caused her to lose her status and become a Fallen Angel. It was also at the same time shortly after that she met Charlie, where she helped her, thus causing Vaggie to be loyal and protective of her.
Abilities Expressive Hair - Her hair flares up whenever she shows strong emotion or anger. It even flows when she explains something serious, like how dangerous Alastor is. Expressive Bowtie - Like her hair, her bowtie responds to her emotions. It flares up when she is angry, remains neutral when she is calm or not expressing strong emotion, and droops when she is upset. Skillset
Hand-to-Hand Combat - Vaggie demonstrates a considerable physical strength that belies her slight frame when it comes to hand-to-hand combat. She is able to swiftly punch a male demon off his chair in one bare-knuckle hit. Weapon Proficiency - Vaggie projects proficiency when handling weapons, and seems to favor blades. Although she has yet to actually make use of her larger weapons, she does not lack confidence when it comes to brandishing them for self-defense, and she is able to throw a dagger into the electric window button of a car with pin-point precision. Bilingualism - Vaggie can fluently speak Spanish,[6] as well as English. Wide Intellect - Vaggie appears to have quite a comprehensive knowledge regarding the hierarchies and folklaw of hell, particularly those pertaining to her area of residence, the Pride Ring, and the machinations of the power-jostling sinners located there. She understands the looming dangers of the Overlords, their politics, as well as the tale of how Alastor became the first mortal soul to harness enough power to "begin to topple overlords who had been dominant for centuries". Flight - She used to be an Exorcist angel, thus she originally had wings in the past to fly until she was stripped of them along with her status. Weaponry
Vaggie harpoon Vaggie brandishes her harpoon Throwing Daggers - Vaggie has throwing daggers in her possession, although whether she has the power to summon them or she just keeps them on her is unclear. Angelic Spear - Vaggie possesses a spear for self defense and was seen carrying it around with her once Alastor appears as a threatening presence at the hotel in the pilot. She had this spear since her past days as an Exorcist.
Anthony,[1] more commonly known as Angel Dust, is an adult film star in Hell and one of the main protagonists in Hazbin Hotel.
A famous porn star and the first sinner the hotel is attempting to redeem,[16] but his selfish actions of using the hotel as a rent-free living space threaten to jeopardize Charlie Morningstar's dream.
Appearance Angel has a slender build and is the tallest of the main cast of characters.[17] He is estimated to stand around 8 feet with his heels on.[18]
His fur is white and he has a mop of fluffy white hair that extends from both the front and back of his head, with splotches of light-pink across it. He also has a distinctive and focal light-pink heart pattern on the back of his head. The light-pink outline of a heart also encircles his chest, the bottom point of which extends past his waistband and down to his crotch area.
His eyelids are light pink and the color extends up to his eyebrows, giving the effect of eyeshadow, and his lashes are dark and thick. His irises are cerise pink. His right eye has a light yellow sclera, his left eye has a dark sclera. He has a wide mouth full of sharp, pointed teeth and possesses a single golden fang that sits slightly to his right of center, a feature he shares with his boss, Valentino. He has three cerise-pink dots under each of his eyes, which are intended to evoke freckles, although they are actually another set of smaller eyes.[19]
One of Angel's most noticeable features is his prominent chest. The chest is actually composed entirely of fluffy fur, however, which Angel intentionally pushes up into a breast-like formation with his tightly pinned jacket for show.[20]
Angel's everyday attire consists of a long light pink suit-blazer with horizontal white stripes down the length, reddish-grey miniskirt, and long reddish-grey thigh-high heeled boots, accessorized with a reddish-grey bowtie with a cerise pink center and a black choker. On his top set of arms he wears long cerise pink gloves with white detailing at the cuffs, on his bottom set of arms he wears long white gloves.
Though usually depicted with six limbs, Angel has a third retractable set of arms that he usually keeps hidden but can summon at will.
In background artwork seen in the pilot, Angel Dust's feet resemble those of a spider's.[21]
Personality Angel is brash and sarcastic, with a quick, sharp wit. He will often use these traits to deflect criticism or insults, and side-step responsibility. He will switch between playful and destructive as he pleases, and his humor tends to be crude and crass, with an emphasis on dirty jokes and innuendos, which he feels is expected of him and actively plays into.
He is stylish and performs an excessive amount of confidence with his public persona, being wildly flirtatious and interested in receiving positive attention for his looks and the profile he has made for himself in Hell.
He also makes a show of looking down others, declaring the other denizens of Hell to be mostly "ugly freaks". As a result, Angel can often appear flippant and callous. In reality he is preemptively defensive and hides much of his true, more sensitive and insecure, self for his own protection, not expecting those around him to show him kindness.
Angel does have friends, and while he cares about them and will sometimes show signs of wanting to reach out, he keeps many walls up between himself and others, being very protective of his true feelings and avoiding holding overly emotional relationships. He holds a cynical view on the idea of redemption, although he seems to still hold onto a small hope it may be possible for him.
The ongoing controlling and abusive situation he is in with his boss, Valentino, puts him under a great deal of stress at his work, and he is implied to be somewhat traumatized as a result. When being confronted by Valentino, Angel becomes scared and nervous around him due to the abuse he inflicts.
Abilities Retractable Arms - Angel has a third set of arms that he keeps hidden and only uses them as his last resort. Sensitivity - Angel can sense incoming storms from a mile away.[13] Athleticism - Since Angel is based on the jumping spider, he is able to jump incredible heights.[6] Skillset
Addict Angel Pole 2 Angel dances at Valentino's club Bilingualism - Angel is fluent in both Italian and English.[14] Weapon Proficiency - Angel can handle weapons with ease, specifically firearms and explosives. Flexibility - Angel demonstrates some impressive flexibility as he is able to remove chains that were restraining him with ease, as well as pole dance at Valentino's club.
Husk is a sinner demon, a grumpy gambler and magician who is one of the main characters in Hazbin Hotel.
A former Overlord of Hell who lost his soul to Alastor in a bet. Now, he and Niffty have been summoned by him to help work at the Hazbin Hotel, with Husk being its front desk clerk and bartender
Appearance Husk is an anthropomorphic avian cat demon. His look is evocative of a magician, paired with a casino referencing playing-card theme. The sclera of his eyes are black, with yellow irises and slitted pupils. He has long, red eyebrows with black vertical stripes near the tips, and a small black heart above each eyebrow.
His fur is taupe-colored, overlayed with white on his face, torso, feet, and upper arms. The insides of his ears are white with a red tip at the point and red heart in the center. A black tuff of fluff protrudes from each, creating the appearance of small hearts.
He has a darker shade of taupe encircling his ankles, mimicking spats. His tail is taupe and long, ending with a large spray of "plume-like" fur or feathers, which are dark pink with black and white stripes. He has yellow-orange hearts underneath the paws on his hands.
His wings are large and red, with dark taupe on the undersides. The undersides of his wings are decorated with black stripes which feature red and white roulette wheel dot markings. His outside of his wings are decorated with more black stripes, which wrap around the joints and run around a row of white roulette wheel dots.
Husk wears black pants with black suspenders over his shoulders and a red bowtie. He also wears a black top hat that has a red hat band and a golden button-like decoration.
Personality Husk is a grumpy, lazy, and apathetic old sinner who is generally uninterested in most things that fall outside of his very narrow interests; namely gambling, parlor tricks, and prolific drinking.
He can be gruff, sarcastic, and even vulgar at times, with a propensity to swear. Despite this, he is said to also be surprisingly patient and able to take outlandish events in his stride, electing to drink his problems away later.
He resists having to do work for free and balks at the idea of being forced into doing "charity work" at Alastor's request for the Hazbin Hotel, however he also seems easily bribed with "cheap booze".
A "husk" of his former self, he claims to have "lost the ability to love" long ago, though whether literally or metaphorically is yet unclear. He is also said to be something of a softy deep down, and even quite sweet. He is very accepting of Angel when he let go of his fake persona
Husk also sold his soul to Alastor
Lucifer Morningstar[5] is a fallen angel and a supporting character in Hazbin Hotel who made his debut in "Dad Beat Dad".
He is the father of Charlie Morningstar and the estranged husband of Lilith. He is the ruler of all of Hell and one of the Seven Deadly Sins, embodying the sin of Pride
Appearance Lucifer has pure white skin, blonde hair, thick black eyebrows, black lips and a mouth full of sharp teeth. His eyes are yellow with red slit pupils resembling those of a snake. He, like his daughter Charlie, has red cheeks. His eyelids are purple which give the appearance of eyeshadow.
He wears a white high collar suit, a black bowtie, and a red undershirt with white stripes. He also wears a wide-brimmed white top hat, with a golden snake and red apple over golden spikes reminiscent of a crown. On his left pinkie, he wears a golden ring.
Lucifer carries an apple-topped black cane that matches his hat. He is shorter than his daughter, Charlie,[6] and his wife, Lilith.
Personality Vivziepop and Faustisse describe Lucifer as cheerful, very silly, and goofy.[7][note 3]
The "Story of Hell" in "Overture" describes him as once being an idealistic dreamer whose accidental creation of Hell and subsequent banishment to it has left him broken and caused him to give up his dreams. Despite this, Lucifer was also a doting husband to Lilith when he fell in love with her for her individuality.
For unknown reasons, Lucifer and Lilith separated. After years of isolation he fell into a depression, in which he crafts and hoards tons of rubber ducks. He is also a jealous type when he meets Alastor, whom he sees as a rival to win over Charlie and tries his best to be a father for her.
Lucifer understands his daughter's interest to rehabilitate sinners, but was too broken after realizing what he did after giving humanity free will, and is cynical of even trying to save any of them. He even expresses his guilt of making dreams come true, and because Heaven was so cruel he doesn't want Charlie to go through the same thing. Still, Charlie manages to convince him to get her and Vaggie a meeting in Heaven, helping Lucifer regain faith of her plans.
Alastor, also known as The Radio Demon, is a sinner demon and one of the many powerful Overlords of Hell. He is one of the main protagonists of Hazbin Hotel.
He is the wickedly charismatic demon who has offered to assist Charlie Morningstar in her endeavors, albeit, for his own amusement.
Appearance Alastor is a slim, dapper sinner demon with beige-colored skin, and usually has a broad smile full of sharp, yellow teeth. He is at around the same height as his rival, Vox, with the two standing at approximately 7 feet.[22]
He sports a pinkish-red cropped, angled bob-cut with black tips at the ends and two large, black tipped tufts of hair extending from the top of his head, evoking the ears of a deer. The style has an undercut at the back, and two small black antlers protruding from the crown.
Alastor's eyes have dark-red sclera, bright-red irises and thin black pupils. His forearms and lower legs fade to dark grey, and he has red hoofed toes and red fingers.[23]
Alastor wears a red pinstripe coat with dark-red lapels piped with white, which is ragged along the bottom hem. Underneath this he wears a bright red dress-shirt with a black cross on the chest, and long black dress pants with matching bright red cuffs. He also wears a dark-red oval-shaped monocle, rimmed with black, over his right eye.
He accessorizes with a black knotted bowtie with a bright red center, black gloves with red at the fingertips, and black pointed-toe boots with red deer hoofprints emblazoned on the soles. Alastor also carries a thin cane with a sentient vintage style microphone attached to it, which he uses to play sound effects and broadcast his voice.
Full Demon When in his full demon form, Alastor's body grow larger and limbs become longer, his neck gains extra joints, and his horns grow in size. His sclera turn black with his pupils turn into the shape of radio dials. His suit and ends of his mouth also gain stitches along them.
Pilot In the pilot his design was almost identical, albeit with a more red color scheme, with his pants instead being dark red. His shoes and coat lapels were also completely black.
Personality Alastor stands out from many of the more chaotic residents of hell for his well maintained amiable persona. He gives a first-impression of a good-natured and charming man, wearing a permanently wide grin on his face at all times. His behavior, mannerisms, and even his voice are similar to an old-fashioned radio announcer and speaks with a transatlantic accent, often using quaint anachronisms such as "the picture show" and refers to Charlie as a "charming demon belle".
This playful dandyish exterior, however, obscures a much darker side to him - one with high levels of self-importance - and he will not hesitate to use physical violence when others don't act in line with his very particular values or expectations. He is noted to be narcissistic, with his love for himself being stated that no one else can measure up to it, and he does not see many people quite up to his level.[24]
Alastor is described as a man of duality.[25] He values good manners,[26] affability and intelligence very highly in others, and will actively look down on those who do not meet his standards,[27] however he will often play fast and loose with these arbitrary rules in regards to himself and his own conduct.
Alastor has an odd sense of morality, which is described as "not normal",[28] and has been noted to be quite sadistic, even cannibalistic, devouring lesser demons or those that have incurred his anger. Despite this, he keeps close friends with the other cannibals of Hell, including the denizens at the Cannibal Town.
His smiling is a very self enforced form of ego and a show of power and dominance; he looks down on anyone who let's their true emotions show, and even when faced with a rival in strength, if they let slip a frown, Alastor will see them as truly weak.[29][30] His smile is also to be more unpredictable and unnerving, and gives him a feeling of completele control over himself.[31]
While Alastor is powerful, he is aware that there are other demons and entities that rival him in terms of power, such as other Overlords. For this reason, he is wary around such demons, as they could potentially harm him if he is not careful.[32]
Despite everything, Alastor does genuinely seem to want to help Charlie run the Hazbin Hotel, albeit for his own amusement, and hopes for its failure over siding with her idealism. Alastor also dismisses the idea that redemption is possible as laughable, nevertheless, he fulfills his role as patron as promised, providing the hotel with staff, and protecting Charlie and her business from outside threats. He views the whole endeavor as a fun distraction from his decades of boredom.
Niffty is a supporting character in Hazbin Hotel: Journey to the Light.
She is a hyperactive, creepy, obsessive, and deceptively powerful sinner who died in the 1950s. In life, she gained notoriety as a serial killer in Osaka, Japan, responsible for the brutal murders of several women—all in her misguided pursuit of winning the affections of Mr. Unmei, a wealthy man for whom she served as a maid. Following her demise and subsequent rebirth in the depths of Hell, she transformed into the ultimate devotee of the Radio Demon, Alastor, trailing him closely wherever he ventured and dutifully executing his commands of chaos and destruction.
When the Radio Demon was recruited into the Hazbin Hotel program, he appointed her as the resident housekeeper and chef. Despite her eccentric and unnerving demeanor, as well as her outdated beliefs about gender roles, she proved to be a lively and valuable member of the hotel team, always ready to assist with her unique brand of assistance.
The most manic member of the demon misfit gang, Niffty is known for her infectious charm and tendency to say and do disturbing things, all juxtaposed by her adorable, high-pitched voice, but for the most part she is harmless amongst her fellows. However, she represses a dark past which sometimes shines through her seemingly innocent happy demeanor. She has a deep obsession with bad-boys, and crushes extremely easily, tending to stalk and follow men she likes.
Niffty is an easily excitable, creepy, and immensely helpful individual with an almost compulsive obsession for cleanliness. She insists on swiftly rectifying any untidiness she encounters, showcasing her neat-freak tendencies. However, her dedication to cleanliness doesn't deter her from rolling up her sleeves and gleefully carrying out Alastor's more unsavory tasks, including decimation and killings. Niffty possesses an exuberant, animated voice and an innate comedic allure that infuses everything she does with panache. She's a versatile individual, proficient in an array of tasks, ranging from housekeeping and culinary arts to seamstress work. Her talents extend beyond the conventional; she boasts an immunity to poisons and chemicals, and her uncanny ability to slip under locked doorways with the grace of a cockroach, expertly unlocking them and greeting the world on the other side with a winsome smile while clinging to the door's edge. Despite her somewhat unsettling quirks, she stands out as one of the more approachable and amiable members of the hotel's crew, though she harbors a much darker side beneath her exterior.
Niffty's endearing qualities include her charming air-headedness, a penchant for simple amusements, and a somewhat oblivious nature that even Alastor has affectionately referred to as "stupid." She genuinely believes that Angel Dust is a woman, despite all evidence to the contrary, and remained blissfully unaware of Baxter's initial lack of romantic interest in her. In matters of romance, Niffty's somewhat ditzy tendencies come to the fore. She tends to easily develop infatuations with men she encounters, placing an immediate and unwavering trust in them. On one occasion, she encouraged Vaggie to consider giving Death a chance during his brief stay at the Hazbin Hotel, completely disregarding his ominous intentions to reap the souls of everyone within the hotel simply because he was a man. Niffty has a particular attraction to "bad boys" and eagerly pursues them whenever an opportunity arises. However, Niffty's trust in men is not absolute, and she possesses the astuteness to recognize when she is being manipulated or taken advantage of. She took decisive action against a pedophilic sinner by castrating him.
Despite Niffty's lack of intelligence, a recurring gag is her knack for identifying and unraveling intricacies and clues that often elude her fellow hotel crew members, largely due to their penchant for thinking unconventionally, in sharp contrast to Niffty's simpler and straightforward approach.
Niffty takes her job with utmost seriousness, displaying an almost ferocious determination when dealing with messes, to the point of near-violence, as evidenced by her trying to stab Angel Dust's hand over an accidental drink spillage. Yet, beneath her deadly facade, she's also disarmingly cute and remarkably affectionate. She willingly prepares meals for the hotel's patients upon request and extends her care to Husk when he faced adversity at the hands of Vox.
One of Niffty's defining characteristics is her fondness for all things adorable, expressed through baby-talk with Fat Nuggets and pinching Manco's cheeks while gushing over his cuteness. Her loyalty and devotion to Alastor are unwavering, driving her to extraordinary lengths to please the Radio Demon, including carrying out mass murders on his orders or placing herself in perilous situations to distract Vox during Alastor's showdown with the TV Demon at the Hazbin Hotel.
Due to the era in which she lived, Niffty holds decidedly archaic views on gender roles. Upon her initial observation of the Hazbin Hotel's dilapidated state upon her arrival, she remarked that it required a "woman's touch." This comment was followed by her perplexity over her belief that all of the hotel's inhabitants were women. She consistently refers to Alastor as "the man of the house" and often makes sexist remarks about Vaggie and Charlie. She adamantly refuses to allow other women, particularly Vaggie, to voice dissent against the Radio Demon. Niffty's adherence to these traditional gender roles becomes evident in her refusal to relinquish control of the kitchen, as she firmly believes that cooking and cleaning are exclusively women's responsibilities. This mindset leads to her confusion when Fergus suggests she step away from her domestic duties and join the rest of the hotel crew for a movie night. In her eyes, such activities run counter to her deeply ingrained belief that a woman's role primarily revolves around maintaining the household.
Niffty has gained notoriety within the Hazbin Hotel for her unsettling and disturbing tendencies, which often manifest as sadistic, psychotic, and violent behavior that sends shivers down the spines of the entire hotel crew. One particularly disturbing habit is her macabre collection of the lifeless bodies of rodents and insects she has slain, a hobby that deeply unnerves those around her. Angel Dust once observed a disconcerting level of enthusiasm in her while dispatching rats that had infested the hotel, raising concerns about her enjoyment of such gruesome tasks. When Niffty develops infatuations with certain men, she borders on possessive
Appearance Vox is a slim, technology-themed demon, standing at approximately 7 feet[5] with a flat-screen TV for a head. The monitor projects two eyes with red sclera and light blue pupils, the outline and wrinkles of his left eye being cyan, and a mouth with sharp teeth that glows light blue.
His skin is dark grey and his fingers are light blue from the second knuckle.
He wears a dark blue tuxedo with lighter stripes and a black and red striped shirt. He has a red bow tie and a light blue undershirt with an upside-down broadcast symbol.
On his head, Vox wears a black top hat with red and blue designs reminiscent of a broadcast symbol and radio wave symbol, respectively. His TV antennae stick out the top of the hat, the right one bent into a zigzag.
Personality Vox is an egotistical, charismatic, and manipulative showman of an Overlord who craves attention.[6] To the public, Vox presents himself as a legitimate businessman of VoxTek Enterprises, giving the facade of a man of the people to the denizens of Hell, when in truth, he is power-hungry and he manipulates their minds to boost his reputation. He is very intelligent and technology-savvy, and he is always keeping up with the latest trends and technology.[7]
Despite his egocentric nature, Vox is loyal to the interests of his fellow Overlords and seeks to maintain their collective image of power. As the most level-headed member, Vox often acts as the de facto leader of the Vees. Claiming the Vees' brand to be "perfection", he is often frustrated or outright angered if someone can jeopardize it, such when he reigns in his fellow Vee, Valentino, from attacking the Hazbin Hotel in response to Angel Dust living there. Another element that earns his ire is his rival, Alastor, whom he utterly despises and might be intimidated by as he sees Alastor as a threat to his plans. However, despite his immense hatred for Alastor, Vox doesn’t let it override his more pragmatic side. He is fully aware of Alastor’s power and doesn’t risk underestimating him.
Abilities Vox TV Vox hijacks a store's TV window display Electrokinesis - Depending on his emotions, Vox possesses the ability to control electricity. If he's angered, he can potentially make it so that a Hell-wide blackout happens,[note 3] which happened to Pentagram City in "Radio Killed the Video Star" when he was upset. Electricity transformation - Vox can turn into electricity,[8] which he can use to move around or enter and travel through electronic devices such as security cameras, watches and television monitors that he can control as he pleases. Scrying - As shown in the prequel comic, A Day in the Afterlife, Vox is seemingly able to see through other screens, appearing to stare directly at Alastor while projecting into the TV display of a window-fronted store. Hypnosis - In "Radio Killed the Video Star", it is shown that with his left eye he uses hypnosis to keep his audience drawn in to his program and keep their interest.
Appearance Valentino is a tall, slender moth demon with greyish-lavender skin and cerise-pink eyes, over which he is always depicted wearing gold-rimmed, heart-shaped sunglasses with cerise-pink lenses. His mouth full of sharp, cerise-pink colored teeth, with a single golden fang that sits to his far left of center, a feature he shares with his employee, Angel Dust.
Valentino's stature is tall, estimated to be around 10 feet,[note 3] which he emphasizes with long black heeled boots. He has fluffy white fur with small red love-hearts around his neck that plumes up from his coat's break-line. He is bald[note 4] with moth-like antennae; the right appearing like a large black and white striped feather while the left appears smaller and lacking the white areas. His hands and forearms are black.
He has a pair of large vivid-red colored moth wings that features white with black striped fur around the edges, while the interior is darker colored with several heart designs. These wings are usually wrapped around his body to form a floor-length, vivid-red colored coat with white fur at the wrists, as well as black and white striped fur trim down the center-front to the bottom hem and three white stripes on both hips. This coat is pinned with a gold chain and gold love-heart shaped broach fastenings at the breast.
Valentino wears a vivid-red top hat that has a wide, asymmetrical zebra-print hat-band. Under his coat he wears a dark grey jacket that shows his chest, held together with two gold buttons, and with the sleeves rolled up, alongside white pants with a black belt that has a golden love-heart shaped buckle, and a pair of high-heeled black shoes. He accessorizes with a gold chain hung down to his chest, gold arm bands, and sometimes gold nail guards on his fingers.
According to Faustisse, Valentino wears fishnets under his coat.[note 5]
Personality Valentino has been described as being charming[note 6] and roughly as level-headed as his fellow Overlord, Vox.[note 7]
Valentino is depicted as being controlling and abusive, specifically towards one of his star employees, Angel Dust.[3][4] He also displays sadistic tendencies, appearing to take enjoyment in overriding Angel's consent, and remains seemingly unbothered by the trauma he is inflicting.
Valentino is frequently surrounded by a collection of the girls who work for him. He is ostentatious in displaying both his profession and status. Faustisse bluntly described him as "a huge fuckboi".[note 8]
He has a temperamental side, throwing objects and ripping other demons apart when he is angry and he doesn't think about how his actions affect his and the Vees' image to where Vox had to explain that "chasing whores around town" will "fuck up" their "image."
Abilities Charisma - Valentino possesses a flamboyant and vivacious charm that allows him to persuade others of his authority.[note 6] Wings - Valentino has a pair of moth wings. These wings are a part of his coat. They are shown to be able to produce powerful gusts of wind that can easily put out a large fire. Val Smoke Valentino's red smoke Typhokinesis - In the "ADDICT" music video, Valentino exhales a strange red smoke from his cigarettes that has the ability to twist and form different shapes, entering the bodies of other demons, as Valentino directs it. However, a similar smoke is also present in a cigarette Angel smokes, making it unknown whether this is an ability natural to Valentino or just a particular type of the cigarette he has in his possession. Smoke Constructs - As shown in "Scrambled Eggs", Valentino can shape his pink smoke into specific shapes that are physically solid. As shown where he formed a chain and manacles to bind Angel Dust and show his dominance over him. Skillset
Weapon Proficiency - As shown in the prequel comic, Valentino is easily able to shoot a moving target with accuracy from a notable distance away. Bilingualism - Valentino can fluently speak Spanish, as well as English. Contracts - Like all Overlords, Valentino amassed his power and influence by "owning" souls. The method he uses to accomplish this is by having his victims sign their souls away to his ownership through the contracts he conjures, as shown in his ownership of Angel Dust, where the latter had willingly signed his name in his contract to "work" for Valentino.
Rosie is the co-owner turned sole owner of Rosie's Emporium after Franklin's death and is one of the many Overlords in Hell.
Appearance Rosie is a slender demon with pale white skin, sharp white teeth, pitch black eyes and a really long neck. She sports short white hair, although it could be tied up under her hat and, similar to Alastor, she appears to be very smiley but not all the time and appears to be a little taller than Alastor.
She wears a red dress with gray shoulder pads, a black belt, and black wrists. Her red sun hat has two skulls and three black flowers on the front side, with a large red and black plume on the top side.
Personality Vivziepop describes Rosie as very capable, articulate, and friendly.[2] Faustisse describes Rosie as gentle and elegant.[note 1]
However, Rosie isn't particularly sensitive to the death of her associate, Franklin, in her first scene within the pilot, as she is seen crossing off his name on their sign, seemingly without a care.
She enjoys old-fashioned things, such as old-fashioned music.
In "Scrambled Eggs", Rosie was shown to have been composed and quiet during the meeting organized by Carmilla Carmine between her fellow Overlords to discuss the new schedule for the Extermination. As shown, Rosie quietly, but respectfully acknowledged her fellow Overlords as they went to the meeting room. Later, it could be seen that Rosie mainly interacted with Alastor prior to the meeting starting proper.
As shown when Velvette revealed that severed Exorcist head, Rosie was shocked at the revelation, but otherwise kept quiet as she observed Velvette argue with Zestial and Carmilla about what to do about it. As shown, Rosie seemingly agreed with Zestial’s idea to not rush into a war against Heaven based on the simple proof that it is possible for Exorcists to be killed, showing she favored caution over Velvette and the Vee’s arrogance and overconfidence. Later, Rosie herself would show shock and some outrage as Velvette repeatedly disrespected her fellow Overlords.
As shown from her first actual appearance in "Hello Rosie!", Rosie is intelligent, patient, friendly, elegant and charming when interacting and socializing with others. As shown with her providing advice to the other cannibals who visit her Emporium and offering to personally help them with their problems. Later, after warmly greeting Alastor, Rosie politely greeted Charlie and wasted no time in being a gracious host, giving her a place to sit and rest and offering to give her food before then agreeing to hear her problems and possibly give her assistance. Showing Rosie's friendliness and graciousness when compared to the regular denizen of hell.
As shown, Rosie is especially kind and loving to those she considers her friends. As shown in her interactions with Alastor, where after meeting up with him again after his "sabbatical", she eagerly offered him some information she picked up on how to expand his power and influence in hell as a friend. And after meeting Charlie and taking a liking towards her, she kindly offered to hear her talk about her problems and repeatedly gave her good advice on how to overcome them. As shown where she offered her advice on how to sway the cannibals and giving her advice on how to overcome her trust issues with Vaggie after learning of her former identity as an Exorcists, which then allowed Charlie to get over her insecurities over it and ultimately helped her patch things up with her.
As the leader of the Cannibal Town, Rosie has shown to be gracious and kind to the Cannibals who reside there. As shown where Rosie would freely hear out their problems and offering them advice or her personal assistance in solving them in her Emporium, which was shown to be packed with them. Rosie herself can also be quiet commanding and intimidating towards them when she wants to be and can lead them efficiently as their leader, being fully aware of the mentality of the cannibals and offered Charlie sound advice on how to properly appeal to them to get them to help her.
However, despite her general kindness, Rosie has shown to have a dark side as an Overlord. As shown, Rosie is highly intelligent and cunning, as shown where she had intimate knowledge on the territorial disputes in sections of Pentagram City between the various demon factions of the city. As shown where she offered Alastor information regarding a slot of territory he could easily take over with the right deal. Later, after Charlie successfully convinced the Cannibals of Cannibal Town to help her, Rosie took note of Charlie's charisma and the immense power she inherited from her father, agreeing with Alastor that taking her side would ultimately be beneficial for them both in the future. Hinting to her manipulativeness.
Due to her past experiences in Hell, Rosie believes that words are cheap and only action is what ultimately shows the truth.
