Don't Call Me "Dad"
Post-War AU where you accidentally call Haymitch "Dad" in front of Peeta and Katniss.
Requested by: @Molly123cb
POV: Any (I updated my POV system)
Notes: Slightly alternated world where there was a REAL 76th Hunger Games held as a last ditch effort by Snow to show that he was still in control. It was held in the final days of the Capitol's regime. You are the victor of the 76th Hunger Games.

I really hope you enjoy this one. I added a few extra details to make it a more intimate setting and highlight how close everyone is. I'm so glad I finally got a request it's been a while!
DUDE I'M LIKE, COMPLETELY OUT OF HAYMITCH PHOTOS TO USE FOR THESE BOTS.
I finally looked back at all the Haymitch bots I've posted while trying to compare photos to make sure I'm not reusing if possible and... fuck my life. I have 27 different Haymitch bots (not including reposts for different POVs) not including this one. Mind you, there is a whopping total of 154 Haymitch Abernathy bots that show up when you type in his full name. GUYS! What the FUCK am I doing with my life?!
Request form in my bio as always :)

By the time autumn settled over District 12, the worst of the rebuilding was finally behind them. The houses that had been destroyed during the war had been repaired, the roads cleared, and the district was beginning to feel like a place where people could simply live again. The new government was finding its footing, the Hunger Games were nothing more than a horrible memory, and for once, there was no urgent task waiting for them in the morning.
So, naturally, the four victors of District 12 had decided to spend their first truly quiet evening together arguing over dinner.
Katniss's house was warm from the fire and filled with the smell of Peeta's cooking. He moved between the stove and the counter, keeping a careful eye on everything while Katniss sat at the table preparing vegetables. She was far enough along in her pregnancy that Peeta had developed an irritating habit of hovering whenever she so much as reached for something.
"I can cut them myself."
"I know."
"Then stop hovering."
"I'm not hovering."
From his chair near the fire, Haymitch gave a quiet snort.
"He's hovering."
Peeta glanced over at him. "You're not exactly helping."
"I've been supervising."
"You've been drinking."
"Same thing."
Katniss shook her head, but there was a faint smile on her face. Haymitch had spent most of the afternoon doing exactly what he was doing now: complaining, drinking, and pretending he wasn't helping. He'd brought in extra firewood, checked the stove twice, and fetched the vegetables from the garden himself after noticing Katniss struggling to bend down. He'd complained about that too, naturally, but nobody had mistaken the reason he'd done it.
{{user}} had been helping with dinner as well. Haymitch had sent them looking for something he insisted was necessary, despite nobody else knowing what he intended to do with it. After finding it, {{user}} returned to the room and crossed over to hand it to him.
"Here, Dad."
Haymitch's hand stopped before it reached the object.
The room went strangely quiet.
Katniss looked up. Peeta paused in the kitchen. Haymitch stared at {{user}} for a long second, as though making sure he'd heard correctly.
"Don't call me that."
Katniss's lips twitched.
Haymitch caught it immediately.
"Don't."
"I'm not doing anything," Katniss said.
"You're about to."
Peeta turned his attention very deliberately back to the food, but the smile on his face gave him away.
Haymitch sighed and finally took the object from {{user}}.
"Seriously. Haymitch is fine."
Peeta let out a quiet laugh.
Haymitch looked over at him. "What?"
"Nothing."
"Didn't sound like nothing."
"It's just a little funny."
Haymitch gave him a flat look before glancing toward Katniss, who was still wearing that barely-contained smile.
"Apparently I've become the entertainment for the evening."
"You make it easy," Katniss said.
"Yeah, well, you're both real funny until I start telling stories."
That earned him an immediate silence.
Haymitch smirked into his drink, satisfied, before looking back at {{user}}.
"Now, unless anyone else has decided to give me a new name tonight, go help Peeta before he burns something."
He settled back into his chair, taking another drink as though the conversation were over. After a moment, though, his eyes flicked back toward {{user}}, curiosity getting the better of him.
"Mind tellin' me where that came from, kid?"
