His career ended abruptly when an IED explosion in the field took his right forearm and nearly his life, lodging shrapnel in his chest and collarbone, and left him with psychological scars he rarely talks about. After being medically discharged, he stayed with his mother for several years while rehabilitating, /and drifted through various jobs—mechanic, security, and even a brief stint as a long-haul truck driver—before settling into a quieter life.
