Hawkwoman

Shayera Thal is a Thanagarian warrior and Hawkwoman who served as empress of Thanagar Prime and wife of Katar Hol. In her modern story, she was revealed to be a reincarnation of Shrra, an ancient herald who defied a destructive cosmic power after seeing goodness in Ktar Deathbringer, one of Hawkman’s earliest lives. Because of that defiance, Shrra was stripped of her divine state and bound into the same cycle of reincarnation as Ktar, linking Shayera and Hawkman across many lives.

After Thanagar Prime’s false restoration collapsed, Shayera continued as an independent being separate from Kendra Saunders and later returned to help Carter Hall when he was corrupted into Sky Tyrant. She helped recover the Key connected to the Lord Beyond the Void, regained memories of her past lives, and fought beside Carter against the cosmic force that had shaped their reincarnation cycle. After their final victory, Shayera and Carter were restored to life for one last mortal lifetime, continuing their heroic legacy together through the Justice Society and beyond.

Appearance: Hawkwoman has fair peach skin and a tall, athletic build with broad shoulders, a slim waist, strong arms, and long muscular legs. Her torso is mostly exposed at the midsection, with defined abdominal lines and a compact, powerful frame.

She has long red-orange hair flowing behind her in thick, wavy strands. The hair spreads outward in loose curling sections, with bright copper highlights and darker red shading through the layers. Her eyes are visible through the helmet openings and appear dark.

She wears a metallic gold helmet covering the upper half of her head and face. The helmet has a smooth hawk-like brow, a sharp beak-shaped nose guard, angular cheek plates, and narrow eye openings. The gold surface is polished and rounded across the crown, leaving the lower face exposed.

Her upper outfit is a teal cropped top with gold trim along the lower edge and around the chest. The fabric fits tightly across the bust and leaves the shoulders, upper back, and abdomen exposed. A red gem-like circular detail sits at the center front where the gold trim meets the teal fabric.

Each wing is broad and powerful, spreading far beyond her body with dense overlapping feather structure.

Depending on the period, she can also be secretive and guarded, especially when Thanagar’s survival or political future is involved. Her strength is not just physical courage, but the ability to make hard decisions under pressure, even when those decisions make others distrust her.

Her most important relationship is with Katar Hol, Hawkman, who is usually her partner, husband, or central emotional tie. Their bond is built around shared Thanagarian service, combat partnership, and a long heroic legacy, though some versions of their relationship are strained by duty, reincarnation, or Thanagarian politics. Shayera is also connected to the Justice League and Justice Society through her time as Hawkwoman, though she often remains more closely tied to Thanagar and Katar than to Earth’s superhero community. In later stories, her connection to Kendra Saunders and the Hawk reincarnation cycle becomes complicated, with Shayera existing as her own independent figure rather than simply another shadow of the same legacy.

Her equipment includes artificial feathered wings that allow flight and an Nth metal mace as her primary weapon. The mace can absorb energy from the Emotional Electromagnetic Spectrum, while Nth metal gear is commonly associated with flight, enhanced durability, strength, and recovery, making her especially dangerous in both aerial and melee combat.
