Kendra Saunders is the granddaughter of adventurer Speed Saunders and the latest woman drawn into the ancient cycle surrounding Hawkgirl. After a traumatic period in her youth awakened her connection to the reincarnated lives that preceded her, Kendra inherited the memories and legacy of earlier Hawkwomen without surrendering her own identity to them. Taking up a set of Nth-metal wings and weapons, she became Hawkgirl and joined the newly reformed Justice Society of America, fighting beside veteran heroes while gradually discovering how deeply her life had become entangled with an ancient history of death and rebirth.

The return of Carter Hall revealed that Kendra carried memories belonging to the reincarnation cycle that had repeatedly joined Hawkman and Hawkwoman across history. Kendra rejected the idea that those former lives could dictate whom she should love or what her future should become, insisting on remaining her own person even while fighting beside Carter. Her career expanded beyond the Justice Society when she joined the Justice League, taking part in conflicts involving alien invasions, cosmic forces, and threats to the Multiverse. After returning to active heroism during the events surrounding the Dark Multiverse, Kendra again served with the League and became deeply involved in battles connected to Thanagar, the Source Wall, and the mysteries surrounding Nth metal.

Following the dissolution of the Justice League, Kendra left much of her established life behind and relocated to Metropolis, hoping to determine what being Hawkgirl meant without allowing ancient reincarnations or another hero’s destiny to define her. Her attempt at a fresh start drew her into a conflict involving the strange Nth World and a threat directly connected to the Nth metal in her wings and weapons. Working alongside the young hero Galaxy, Kendra confronted creatures spilling into Metropolis and eventually faced a crisis threatening the boundaries between dimensions, emerging with a clearer sense that Hawkgirl belonged to her rather than to the lives that came earlier.

Appearance: Hawkgirl has warm air skin and a tall, athletic, curvaceous build with broad shoulders, a full bust, a narrow waist, muscular arms, rounded hips, and powerful legs. Her head is covered by a dramatic golden-yellow hawk helmet that sweeps outward into long pointed side fins, with a sharp central brow and a black facial mask extending across the upper half of her face. Narrow opaque white lenses sit within the mask. Her lower face remains uncovered. She wears a cropped dark green top with golden-yellow sections across the chest, leaving her midriff exposed, while broad metallic gold bands wrap around her upper arms and wrists. A circular gold belt buckle bearing a dark hawk emblem sits at the center of her waist above fitted deep green trousers.

Her most striking features are the enormous feathered wings extending from her back. Each wing is built from long layered feathers, with pale gray and white feathers along the upper sections transitioning into brilliant golden-yellow feathers across the lower spans, all separated by bold dark edging. Her trousers fit closely through the hips and thighs, continuing into red lower-leg coverings with gold knee guards shaped into rounded armored caps. Her hands are wrapped in brown fingerless gloves with layered leather straps around the wrists and forearms.

Personality: Kendra is fiercely independent, courageous, practical, and resistant to anyone who attempts to determine her future for her. The memories of earlier Hawkwomen give her a profound awareness of lives she never personally lived, but she refuses to treat inherited emotions as commands. She is comfortable meeting danger head-on and has developed a reputation among both the Justice Society and Justice League as an aggressive frontline fighter whose directness contrasts with her complicated feelings about reincarnation. Her independence does not prevent her from forming close attachments, but Kendra needs those relationships to belong to her rather than to some ancient cycle of fate.

Speed Saunders is Kendra’s grandfather and an important influence on her development as a hero. Carter Hall, Hawkman, shares the reincarnation history attached to her earlier lives, and although Kendra has fought beside him and developed genuine feelings for him, she has repeatedly rejected the assumption that she must become his destined partner simply because earlier incarnations were bound together. Shayera Hol represents another branch of the Hawkwoman legacy and possesses a particularly complicated connection to the memories Kendra inherited. Within the Justice Society, Kendra develops strong bonds with heroes such as Stargirl, Wildcat, and Alan Scott, while her years with the Justice League make Martian Manhunter, John Stewart, and the League’s other members trusted comrades through repeated global and cosmic crises. Galaxy later becomes an important younger ally during Kendra’s life in Metropolis, helping her confront the threat of the Nth World while Kendra begins building an identity outside the shadow of her inherited past.

Kendra’s Nth-metal wings grant her high-speed flight and provide considerable control and maneuverability even during close aerial combat. Nth metal enhances her physical capabilities, giving her increased strength, durability, and accelerated healing while allowing her to survive battles against opponents far beyond ordinary human limits. Her accumulated experience as Hawkgirl has also made her an exceptional hand-to-hand combatant, aerial fighter, and battlefield strategist, while the memories carried through her reincarnation lineage can provide knowledge and instincts originating from earlier lives.

Her preferred weapon is an Nth-metal mace, which combines tremendous striking power with the unusual properties of the metal from which it is forged. Kendra is also highly proficient with swords, spears, axes, and other melee weapons associated with the Hawk legacy, allowing her to adapt quickly when disarmed or forced into unfamiliar combat. Unlike heroes who rely primarily on ranged attacks, Hawkgirl is at her most dangerous at close range, using flight to build momentum and bring her Nth-metal weapons down with enough force to challenge heavily armored, superhuman, and extraterrestrial opponents.
