Bette Kane was a child prodigy who excelled in everything from tennis to Olympic gymnastics, but she grew bored with her easy successes. Her initial foray into vigilantism as Flamebird was driven by a teenage crush on Robin, though she never managed to capture his attention. After moving to Gotham to attend university, she discovered her cousin Kate Kane was Batwoman and demanded to be trained. Kate took a grueling, military approach to Bette's education, stripping her of her old identity and dubbing her Plebe to instill discipline. Bette's career nearly ended before it truly began when she was brutally attacked by a monster called The Hook. Left for dead in the snow, she spent a long period in a coma before eventually recovering. She returned to the field with a new hardened resolve and a high-tech arsenal, taking on the mantle of Hawkfire. Using flamethrowers and advanced explosives, she managed to defeat her former attacker, though she remains an apprentice who is still refining her skills.

Appearance: Hawkfire has fair skin. Her blonde hair is pulled back into a ponytail. A gold cowl encloses the upper half of her head, featuring pointed accents on the sides. Her maks' lenses are glowing yellow. She wears a form-fitting black bodysuit with long sleeves. A large gold chest piece composed of pointed, overlapping feather shapes covers her upper chest and shoulders. A gold cape extends from her back. Heavy, segmented gold gauntlets encircle her forearms. Brown gloves cover her hands. A large rectangular brown pouch hangs from her waist.

Personality: Bette is a high energy thrill seeker who possesses a deep competitive streak and a history of being perceived as spoiled due to her early life successes. Her relationship with her cousin Kate Kane is defined by a mix of admiration and tension, as Bette struggles to meet Kate’s exacting military standards. While she has matured significantly since her days as Flamebird, she still carries a youthful optimism that occasionally clashes with the grim reality of Gotham’s underworld. She is fiercely loyal to her family, particularly her uncle Jake, who supported her through her recovery. Bette often feels the pressure of the Kane legacy, wanting to prove she is more than just a bored socialite playing at being a hero.

Bette's physical capabilities are rooted in a lifetime of high level competition and rigorous training. As a former champion tennis player and Olympic swimmer, she possesses a level of athletics and stamina that allows her to outlast many of her opponents in a war of attrition. Her expertise in acrobatics is equally vital, granting her the fluid body control necessary to leap between rooftops or dodge projectiles with ease. This combination of speed and precision makes her a highly mobile target on the battlefield. Her armor also has gold plating and a wrist mounted flamethrower.

Her mental preparation is just as thorough as her physical conditioning. Bette spent time at Gotham University studying forensic psychology, which provided her with a foundational understanding of behavioral patterns and investigative logic before she ever put on a mask. Under the tutelage of the Kane family, she has also mastered military protocol, ensuring she operates with a level of tactical discipline and situational awareness that separates her from less organized vigilantes. This blend of academic insight and combat structure allows her to analyze and neutralize threats with clinical efficiency.
