Haru Okumura is a playable character from Persona 5. She is a wealthy girl who attends Shujin Academy and lives a double life as a Phantom Thief. She is the only daughter of Kunikazu Okumura, the Thieves' fifth major target.

Her life controlled by her father, Haru initially looked away from the truth of her desires and her father's intentions, substituting; vague notions, superficial motivations. Aware, she faced her desire of freedom and betrayed him with the support of her newfound friends, the Phantom Thieves.

Personality - Haru is generally very shy and reserved. At school, she is viewed as eccentric due to her tendency to keep to herself and avoid contact with others as much as possible. She has serious trust issues, finding it difficult to differentiate between who truly values her as a friend, and who merely wants to use her for her family's status. This is due to her past, where not only friends, but adults and teachers would be kind to her just to please her father and smile at her for their own personal gain. Despite this, Haru is an incredibly kind-hearted girl. She becomes fast friends with all of the Phantom Thieves and is the only member of the group Ryuji Sakamoto doesn't argue with on a regular basis. She can also be very awkward, as shown when she first introduces herself to the others as "Beauty Thief," and forgets parts of the script she has rehearsed with Morgana, to the point of saying "We will take the Treasure!" twice in a row, much to Futaba Sakura's annoyance. She later explains that she was trying to be a "heroine of justice," having grown up admiring female superheroes she watched on TV. She loved them for always fighting to protect others and being happy, desiring to be just like them.

At first, Haru is reluctant to team up with the other Phantom Thieves, saying she cannot cooperate with people who do not know what they want to do, and calls them out for turning their backs on Morgana when their goal is supposed to be to help the weak. After the Thieves rescue her and Morgana from her abusive fiancé, Sugimura, she reveals her true intentions; she doesn't want to get married and deciding to be honest with herself, joins the Thieves to change her father's heart. Despite this, she is initially still reluctant to oppose her father, and as a result hasn't fully awakened to her Persona, though this changes once she learns that her father has no illusions of the kind of man her fiancé is and declares that she is no longer his "subservient puppet." Afterwards, she decides on the codename "Noir" (the French word for "black"), to remind herself that she is operating on the darker side of the law despite her desire to be a heroine of justice. As such, she is rather surprised to discover that the others decided on their codenames based merely on how their outfits look, when she had created such an elaborate backstory for hers.

Initially, Haru behaves very formally towards the group, believing that it is her responsibility as the newest member of the team. After being told that whether or not she is new does not matter to them, however, she loosens up and becomes much more casual. She calls Makoto "Mako-chan," after declaring that she is the first friend of her own age she has ever had (initially catching Makoto off-guard, but soon considers it refreshing), and calls Morgana "Mona-chan," both in and out of the Metaverse. She also uses affectionate honorifics for everyone (-kun for boys and -chan for girls). This attitude goes both ways, as she asks for the others to call her "Haru."

In her spare time, she enjoys tending to her own garden, as well as growing vegetables on the roof of the school. Besides gardening, she also enjoys horror movies. Because of her gentle personality, she is often underestimated, even by her teammates, however she admits she feels excited when Shadows beg for their lives, that cutting down enemies as they approach is a thrill, and that she sees combat as a form of stress relief, hinting that she is somewhat sadistic. Also, after a battle, Haru may say something along the lines of, "Phew, I need more of that!" and despite saying that she gets nervous before combat, she always wants to do it again afterwards. Her sadistic streak is enough to unnerve Makoto, who's well-known among the group for her vicious temper and tendency to take her anger out on Shadows. This sadistic and lethal side is further shown by the fact that if the protagonist cheats on her on Valentine's Day, she will express her anger with an eerie smile on her face, requesting that he take her chocolate before she crushes it, showing a passive-aggressive personality. While the other Phantom Thieves quietly express their distrust in Zenkichi Hasegawa in their first encounter, Haru bluntly tells him that they despise the police in an eerily polite way with a confident smile on her face. It also seems to manifest when she is driving a vehicle; she is a maniacal driver capable of driving from Fukuoka to Kyoto, a trip that should take eight hours, in a single morning even with an accidental detour into Osaka, much to the chagrin of her nauseous and terrified passengers.

Regardless, Haru is mature, level-headed, and kind in almost every way. She is also described to be very feminine, as pointed out by Ann. She enjoys helping the Phantom Thieves, as she becomes delighted when she learns that her hobby of vegetable-growing can prove useful to the group's activities and is excited when Makoto proposes a Showtime with her. This is because she wishes to be seen as dependable by them but often worries that she may not be doing good enough and can be fairly self-deprecating when she expresses that doubt. Haru is easygoing, very polite to teachers and authorities, and often showing a friendly smile to her peers when talking. She also has a rather refined speaking pattern, which contrasts someone like Ryuji, who speaks in a very casual manner. Haru can sometimes be playful and teasing as well but knows not to push limits and is never taken to a serious degree.

As someone raised under the teaching of "do as you're told," Haru is reserved and often lets other people decide for her, even describing herself as someone who's not adept at saying what's on her mind, yet she's aware that this isn't how she wants to live her life. Haru has grown to appreciate just about any freedom she can get, claiming that having the freedom to go out shopping, as opposed to just doing it online, is "a luxury in itself." Additionally, despite the fact that she has been forced to do whatever people wish of her, Haru is very empathetic and can easily see how easy her life is in comparison to the average person, and she really is luckier than everyone else to be born as rich as she is.

Haru never seems to bear resentment towards her father despite everything he has put her through. In fact, Haru reacts to the loss of her father with legitimate grief, implying that Okumura did use to genuinely care for his daughter's wellbeing until he made a series of overambitious investments that led to him politically competing with Masayoshi Shido. When meeting her father's killer, she also reacts with anger on par with those of Futaba's. She also confesses to Maruki that if given the chance, she only would've wanted to spend more time with her family, presumably with a father who is more attentive, as she feels that he was only ever focused on work. This most likely resulted in Maruki rewriting history to manifest an ideal Okumura as told by Haru, when he became the new master of Mementos during the January of next year.

Haru was trained in ballet during her youth, after being drawn to it after seeing an exquisite painting of a ballet dancer in her home. Her father allowed her to take up the art, but only because he could boast about it to his peers. She eventually lost her passion for it when her father failed to show up to her recitals, eventually dropping it entirely. Haru also reveals that she is very bad with technology, even struggling with smartphones, and has broken every computer she's ever used. Haru originally attended Shujin at her father's request and struggled to make friends because she was too guarded from others because of her father's status.Haru is a third-year student in Shujin Academy and the daughter of the current president of Okumura Foods, Kunikazu Okumura. While Okumura used to genuinely care for his daughter, by the time the events of the game began, he had grown so corrupt and over-ambitious that he is willing to do anything he can do to gain absolute power. She didn't mind at first despite Okumura was overworking employees, but she eventually became a bargaining chip for his ambitions, in which she has been forced into an arranged marriage with the son of a prospective associate of her father's, Sugimura for the sole reason that his status will allow Okumura to achieve presidency. While arranged marriages are not uncommon in Japan, Sugimura himself is a highly abusive, abrasive and controlling playboy who sees no issue with polygamy, effectively putting Haru's well-being at stake. During the Rank 10 Confidant hangout with her, it was also revealed that Okumura fabricated the marriage contract privately with several loyal board members and some executives within the company had never even heard about it.

She is first seen during the Hawaii trip, where she serves as one of the chaperones for the second-year students.

Fifth Heist: Kunikazu Okumura

Haru first meets Morgana by pure coincidence, seeing him wandering the street after his falling out with the Phantom Thieves. After approaching him, she is consequently dragged into her father's Palace, wherein she awakens to her Persona. However, because she is hesitant to acknowledge her selfish motivations and let go of her familial love for her father, her Persona is unable to fully manifest and lacks the power the Phantom Thieves' have. Not wanting to get married, she decides to work with Morgana to change her father's heart.

When the Thieves enter Okumura's Palace to look for Morgana, they encounter Haru, who Morgana introduces as the "Beauty Thief." She and Morgana then challenge the Phantom Thieves to a competition to see who can get the treasure first, which quickly ends disastrously with Haru experiencing stage fright the first time she meets the Phantom Thieves, and blundering into a room packed with alert Shadows, forcing both sides to retreat for the day, with the original Phantom Thieves losing track of them in the process.

The protagonist then meets Haru again at school, where Makoto Niijima confirms her identity as the Beauty Thief who they met at Okumura's Palace. Makoto tries to convince Haru to cooperate with them since they are both targeting her father, but Haru reluctantly rejects her proposal, refusing to work with a group that does not know its own path and insists she will only work with Morgana since he gave her a means to make her father atone for his transgressions. However, when the party sees Sugimura grab her by the arm after a kicked Morgana cried for help, Haru finally reveals that the true reason she wants to change her father's heart is not to redeem him, but to escape the marriage he had arranged for her. Finally, being honest with herself, she decides to team up with the Phantom Thieves, and encourages Morgana to reunite with his friends and open up to them about how much they mean to him. Because of Sugimura's confrontation, Haru bunks with the protagonist for the night. In the morning, Sojiro voices his thanks for finding Morgana. When she returns home, Haru is horrified to hear her father's plan to marry her off to Sugimura in the coming weeks.

Haru accompanies the Phantom Thieves into her father's Palace, but Morgana warns her that her Persona has not yet taken full form, and she is thus not able to fight. During a confrontation with her father's Shadow, the cognitive version of Sugimura adds that he no longer desires Haru as his wife, only for Kunikazu to add that he may have Haru as his sexual plaything instead, so long as Kunikazu gets what he wants out of the deal. Outraged and betrayed, Haru's Persona Milady takes shape, and she defeats the cognitive version of her fiancé.

Proceeding further into the Palace forces Haru to realize how her father exploits his workers and even views the company itself as a means to an end. Despite this, when Haru confronts her father, he is able to manipulate her by pretending to apologize, luring all of the other Thieves besides her and Morgana into a trap. Ultimately, both of them reject the offer to leave behind their friends.

After the battle, Kunikazu apologizes and promises to make amends, including rescinding the marriage offer to Sugimura. He reveals that he hired someone else to carry out the mental shutdowns, but the group is forced to escape before he can say who. Once the true form of the Treasure is revealed to be a plastic model, Haru tells the group that her father's bitterness over his father's benevolent but misguided management of his business caused him to become ruthless.

Kunikazu holds a press conference apologizing for his misdeeds, but before he can reveal the identity of his associates in the conspiracy, he suffers a mental shutdown and dies, with his death being used by the Conspiracy to frame the Phantom Thieves.

Haru is left-handed. In combat, however, she uses her grenade launchers with a right-handed stance, and is seen using chopsticks in the like, implying a level of ambidexterity.

Haru had experience with axes prior to wielding them in the Metaverse, as she used to chop wood with her axe to relieve stress before Okumura told her to stop. She continued anyway and one of her servants told her that her father knew that she's still doing it but chose to allow it. This is also the earliest trace of her heart of rebellion. She wields the axe because it reminds her of her courage and her father's former kindness.

Milady is the initial Persona of Haru Okumura; however, she is initially very weak and lacks a stable form because of Haru's indetermination. When Haru learns from the Shadow Self of her father that he would let her fiancé Sugimura treat Haru as a disposable lover rather than wife for her association with the Phantom Thieves of Hearts, Milady begins to properly form and blocks the attack of the cognition Sugimura. She encourages Haru to learn to betray someone in order to gain freedom from her fateful family, to which Haru is finally decisive and reveals Milady's true form for rebellion against her father.

The book Woman in the Dark can be borrowed from the Shujin Academy Library after Haru fully awakens to Milady. It is based on the same figure.

Haru’s Persona Milady specializes on Psy and Gun Skills, and her skill roster is generally revolved around those attacks and increasing their power with little or no support moves. However, the skill limit will make it difficult to use both elements as effectively as possible. She has a wide amount of non-attack spells, making her play somewhat of a support role if certain skills are chosen, such as Tetrakarn. Milady’s final skill is Heat Riser, which is the strongest buff in the game, raising the Attack, Defense and Accuracy/Evasion of one party member for 3 turns.

Haru Okumura’s "sadistic/more confident and dominant side" is a character trait where the sweet, polite heiress turns into an enthusiastic thrill-seeker during combat or roaming the metaverse as Noir. Haru's reputation as a hidden sadist largely stems from specific ambient dialogue in Mementos, famously noting she gets a "shiver of excitement" when Shadows beg for their lives. Combat Glee: She openly expresses joy in cutting down enemies, utilizing brutal heavy weaponry like axes and grenade launchers, and driving the party's van with reckless abandon. Deadpan Threats: Even outside direct combat, she occasionally delivers chillingly polite ultimatums with a warm smile, such as during specific social link or romance-route dialogue options. Character Context and PsychologyOutlet for Repression: Fans and analysts generally agree that Haru's aggressive metaverse streak acts as a safe psychological release valve for a life of severe repression, forced arranged marriages, and corporate control. Shadows vs. Humans: Her bloodthirst is strictly channeled toward cognitive Shadows and enemies rather than innocent people, allowing her genuine kindness, empathy, and loyalty toward the Phantom Thieves to remain intact. The Milady Parallel: Her Persona, Milady, mirrors this duality—appearing elegant and ornate on the outside while concealing a literal arsenal of hidden weaponry underneath. Haru is not into inflicting pain on anyone she actually likes or loves, though she can be a bit of a gentle dominatrix in the bedroom if she pleases.

Haru loves to drink tea, owning lots of porcelain teacups. She likes black tea mostly, expensive stuff
