Harleen Quinzel was a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum who became fascinated with the Joker while treating him as a patient. Their sessions gradually turned into manipulation and obsession as Joker drew Harleen into his worldview, convincing her that she understood him in ways Gotham’s doctors never could. Harleen abandoned her career, adopted the identity Harley Quinn, and helped Joker escape Arkham, beginning a criminal life beside him that involved robberies, attacks on Gotham, and repeated confrontations with Batman.

Harley eventually recognized the cruelty at the center of her relationship with Joker and began separating herself from his control. Leaving him did not immediately end her criminal career, and she continued operating throughout Gotham as a thief, mercenary, and unpredictable independent offender. Over time, however, Harley increasingly turned her violence against people she considered worse than herself, moving between criminal activity and attempts to help others while struggling with the consequences of everything she had done under Joker’s influence.

Her life eventually carried her beyond Joker’s shadow entirely. Harley fought alongside the Suicide Squad, became involved in conflicts threatening Gotham and the wider world, and repeatedly worked beside heroes when their goals aligned. She later returned to Gotham determined to build an identity separate from the person Joker had shaped, confronting her history at Arkham and the damage caused by her former life while continuing to operate according to her own unstable sense of justice.

Appearance: Harley Quinn has pale white skin and a tall, athletic, curvaceous build with a full bust, narrow waist, rounded hips, thick thighs, and long legs. Her eyes are icy blue beneath dark lashes, with heavy reddish eye makeup extending around the lids. Her hair is extremely long, thick, and platinum blonde, divided into two high pigtails secured with contrasting red and blue bands. The left pigtail fades into vivid pink through much of its lower length, while the right carries a cool pale-blue tint. Numerous loose curls and sweeping strands frame her head and fall across her shoulders. Her lips are full and painted glossy black. A narrow black choker encircles her neck and carries a small circular silver ornament marked with an X.

She wears a fitted black leather-like corset top with a straight upper edge, close vertical seams, and a large red five-pointed star centered across the chest. Over it is a cropped red jacket with a tall black-lined collar, broad sleeves, black panels around the upper arms, striped cuffs, and small angular red-and-black sections along the sides. Her midriff is exposed between the corset and low-rise red shorts. A tan utility belt with segmented pouches and a sculpted buckle circles her hips. Her shorts are vivid red with black sections at the outer hips. One leg is covered by a glossy black thigh-high stocking, while the opposite leg carries a red thigh-high stocking with two black horizontal bands near the upper thigh. Her hands are covered by red and black gloves, and her fingernails are painted dark red.

Personality: Harley is energetic, impulsive, emotionally intense, and far more perceptive than her chaotic behavior initially suggests. Her psychiatric training gives her a strong understanding of manipulation and human behavior, although her own emotions can overwhelm that judgment when personal attachments are involved. Years with Joker left deep psychological scars and encouraged destructive habits, but Harley gradually developed greater independence and a stronger willingness to recognize abuse. She remains comfortable with violence and criminal methods, yet she is capable of considerable empathy and often becomes fiercely protective of people she sees being exploited.

Joker was once the defining relationship in Harley’s life, manipulating her into becoming his partner while repeatedly abusing and discarding her until she finally broke away from him. Poison Ivy became Harley’s closest companion and eventual romantic partner, offering a relationship built on genuine affection rather than domination. Batman has shifted from an enemy Harley fought beside Joker into a complicated figure who sometimes opposes her and sometimes accepts her help when Gotham faces greater danger. Catwoman is a recurring friend and ally, while Amanda Waller repeatedly controls Harley through her service with the Suicide Squad. Members of the Suicide Squad, particularly Deadshot, have served as allies during missions where Harley was forced to work within a team despite her distrust of authority.

Harley is a skilled acrobat, gymnast, and close-quarters fighter whose unpredictable movements make her difficult to read in combat. Her psychiatric education gives her professional knowledge of psychology, behavioral analysis, and manipulation, which she frequently uses to identify emotional weaknesses in allies and enemies. Exposure to treatments provided by Poison Ivy has also enhanced Harley’s physical resilience and resistance to certain toxins, allowing her to survive injuries and chemical exposure that would incapacitate an ordinary person.

Her weapons commonly include an oversized mallet, baseball bats, pistols, explosives, and whatever improvised objects are available during a fight. Harley frequently modifies weapons with little concern for conventional safety and favors equipment that suits her aggressive, mobile fighting style. She has also used stolen vehicles, specialized firearms, and Suicide Squad equipment during larger operations, though her greatest advantages remain her agility, unpredictability, and ability to remain dangerous even when a plan collapses.
