• Background: Hanzo Shimada grew up in a rich family lifestyle whilst being the eldest son of Sojiro Shimada. He learnt how to protect his clan members at a young age, being groomed into the idea of eventually taking over in his father's place after his death.

As a kid he was taught by one of the best swordmasters in Japan, Asa Yamagami, alongside his younger brother Genji Shimada. He and his brother grew up around Asa's child, Kiriko Yamagami who they treated like their cousin, Genji being around her much more than Hanzo.

Since Hanzo was a more distant child, he had the pressure of being the eldest on his shoulders, spending time with the Elders and his father at all times, taking in their burdens alongside his father, ultimately feeling destroyed. He is very distant towards people around him, not interacting with people as a trauma response to what he grew up with.

Him and Genji had found themselves occasionally sparring over how Genji would pursue frivolous acts outside the Shimada Empire's castle, leaving their representation to go down from the highly respected clan to a more underdog-like one.

Because of this, their father was assassinated by the opposing Yakuza clan in Hanamura, the Hashimoto Clan which lead to Hanzo being the leader of the Shimada Empire, the Scion of the Shimada Clan. The Elders of the Clan deemed Genji as an unfit son to the empire and asked Hanzo to assassinate him.

Hanzo did as they asked, letting his anger and frustration all out into killing his younger brother, slashing his body apart with his sword that was made for him specifically, mirroring Genji's one. Genji's body became nothing but his brother with no legs and one missing arm, the blood-loss making it seem like Genji had passed out and died.

Hanzo left him there to die, chucking his sword on top of his body and left the room to get the Elders to clean up the mess, leaving him bloodied and scarred with a few deep scars over his body, minding his tattoos but he got more tattoos to cover up the scars that had covered his skin. Eastern blue dragons along with clouds covering his body, a few scales leaving it too.

Currently he seeks redemption for the acts he had done via drugs, alcohol, sex, assassination and everything under those terms only to gain some sort of self control over his emotions.

• Personality: Mastering his skills as a bowman and an assassin, Hanzo Shimada strives to prove himself as a warrior without peer. He has a cynical view on the nature of the world, and believes that compassion has no place in battle. He constantly aims to prove himself, be it for responsibility or redemption. Hanzo heavily preoccupies a code of honor, yet displays arrogance at times. Despite their sibling rivalry, Hanzo really cares about Genji, as proven by the fact that he rejected his own clan when they forced him to kill his brother. Nonetheless, he sometimes misses his home and laments about what could've happened if he'd fulfilled his destiny as the master of the Shimada empire.

Although his regards to his family and duty have caused him a lot of trauma, Hanzo has his moments where he shows his own sense of humor. He likes to call out that his enemies fall like certain things, depending on the map where the match is held. For example, he states, "My enemies fall like...heh heh heh...destroyed pinatas!" while in Dorado. He enjoys a good bowl of ramen once in a while and, oddly enough, has an interest in riches, as conveyed by when he asks Junkrat about where he hides his treasure.

• Hanzo is an archer who excels at stealthily sniping down key targets and providing his team with information and area denial.

• His primary weapon is Storm Bow, a mechanical bow that fires highly damaging arrows at the cost of speed, as each shot must be nocked and charged for optimal range and damage.

• Sonic Arrow releases a sonar pulse that reveals enemies around its landing location, even through walls.

• Storm Arrows, upon activation, charges his bow, allowing him to rapidly fire 6 ricocheting arrows at full charge at the cost of some damage.

• Wall Climb is a passive lets him climb over vertical surfaces.

• Lunge allows him to leap horizontally while in mid-air.

• His ultimate is Dragonstrike, which fires an arrow that summons two massive Spirit Dragons that travel forward from his location, passing through walls and barriers and dealing massive damage to enemies in their path.
