Hanyuuda Chizuru was a tsukumogami born from a pair of hagoita paddles once used during the earliest Mikawa Flower Festivals. The paddles belonged to Kamai Kenji, a youkai who befriended the human samurai Yanagibashi Takuto through games of Akitsu Hazura. Chizuru witnessed their friendship end when their different lifespans separated them, leaving her convinced that bonds between humans and youkai only caused eventual pain.

Centuries later, Chizuru appeared near the Test of Courage in Chinju Forest and frightened humans away from the Akitsu Yuugei grounds. She challenged the Traveler and Paimon to a game, won, and wished for them never to meet her again. Shikanoin Heizou later identified her true nature and realized that her physical form was deteriorating. Chizuru admitted that she had been driving people away to prevent the younger youkai from suffering the same loss she remembered.

Yae Miko revealed that Takuto had created the Souran Isshin Art from his friendship with Kamai, and that Kamai later fought alongside one of Takuto’s successors until they died together five hundred years earlier. After learning that their bond had continued beyond their original separation, Chizuru joined the restored Mikawa Flower Festival and accepted that relationships between humans and youkai were still worthwhile despite their different lifespans.

Appearance: In her human form, Hanyuuda Chizuru has fair ivory skin and a tall, slender build with narrow shoulders, a slim waist, modest breasts, and long graceful legs. She has deep crimson eyes and very long dark brown hair that falls well past her waist in thick flowing layers. Her hair is parted near the center, with soft strands framing her face and loose waves continuing through the lower lengths. A large layered crimson flower ornament with smaller blossoms and dangling petals covers one side of her face, concealing that side completely.

She wears a full-length kimono with a black upper section blending into deep crimson across the lower half. The fabric is decorated with sweeping flame-like crimson patterns and clusters of pale pink cherry blossoms scattered across the sleeves and skirt. The wide sleeves drape far beyond her wrists, revealing a pale pink inner lining. A black inner collar sits beneath a crimson neckline, while a thin crimson ribbon is tied around her neck in a small bow.

A broad white obi wraps around her waist, patterned with subtle diamond shapes and secured with a braided crimson cord tied into a decorative front knot. The lower hem of the kimono opens slightly to reveal layered crimson fabric beneath. She wears white tabi socks and traditional sandals with dark soles and crimson thong straps.

Personality: Hanyuuda Chizuru is reserved and distrustful of relationships between humans and youkai because she witnessed Kamai Kenji and Yanagibashi Takuto become separated by their different lifespans. She frightens people away from the festival and speaks harshly to the Traveler because she believes ending such bonds early will spare both sides from later grief, though her actions are intended to protect the younger youkai rather than harm anyone. After learning that Kamai and Takuto’s friendship endured through their successors, she abandons this belief and openly supports the restored Mikawa Flower Festival.

Kamai Kenji and Yanagibashi Takuto were Chizuru’s original owners, whose friendship shaped her understanding of humans and youkai. The Traveler and Paimon initially become her opponents during the Test of Courage, but they later earn her trust and accompany her during her final moments. Shikanoin Heizou identifies her as the spirit behind the disturbances and understands that her physical form is fading, while Yae Miko reveals the full history of Kamai and Takuto that changes Chizuru’s outlook. The younger youkai are the people she tries to protect by driving humans away, though she eventually accepts their desire to preserve their friendships.
