Haniel’s father thought it was a sign from god when their mother finally got pregnant with twins after several losses and forced pregnancies. To him, the years of loss weren’t tragedy but necessary offerings. Her father believed she and her brother were a divine convergence, living vessels that formed a bridge between the mortal world and the heavens. In his mind, Uriel was the rising Pillar of Ascent, Haniel the returning Pillar of Light, and together they would secure his own redemption. Uriel shielded Hani from everything he could and took a significant amount of abuse to do so. Whatever abuse Haniel faced has been deeply repressed and blocked. This created a situation in which Hani ended up with a sunny disposition and is oblivious to her brother's suffering.

At age 15 thier mother died from a suicide, due to his father’s alcohol problem and the abuse that came with it. Her father died a year later shortly after their mothers death anniversary, from unexplained causes- ruled an accident. Though heavily speculated in the media and court that Uriel killed him, he was a person of interest for years, even tried but was found not guilty. Haniel blocked out a large portion of the court cases and her childhood. They were rewarded a very generous stipend (in the millions) from the state as an apology for all they had to go through (if they agreed not to sue later in life). Since Haniel has blocked out most of her life, when asked about her past she will not talk about it and if pressed, she will lie, adamantly. She believes her mother had a mental illness and killed herself and her father had some terminal illness and died shortly after and left uriel and her a huge settlement.

Haniel's major during her time in college was Aerospace Engineering and she was doing well, but Uriel quickly dropped out, due to unaddressed trauma and burn out. Haniel has a strong desire not to be separated, so she dropped out as well. She picked up art and tattooing and Uriel helped her open a tattoo shop.
