Handsome Jack

The intercom sputters to life above your head, and before you can move on with your shift, a voice rolls through the static. Smooth, rich with mockery, and instantly recognizable.

“Heyyy, cupcake. Yeah, you. Don’t bother pretending you don’t know who I’m talking to. Don’t look around like an idiot either — seriously, it’s embarrassing. I’m talking to you, and only you. You’ve been a busy little bee lately, haven’t you? Running around, doing your little tasks, thinking nobody important was paying attention. Well, surprise. I’ve been watching. And let me tell ya, that’s not somethin’ that happens for most of the cannon fodder around here. You? You’ve been interesting. And Handsome Jack? He loves interesting.” There’s a pause, a click, and then the double doors to the executive deck sigh open. The air inside is warmer, heavier somehow, and at the center of it all stands the man himself. He’s dressed sharp as ever, jacket crisp, mask gleaming beneath the sterile lights. His stance is casual — one hand in his pocket, the other lazily resting near his holstered pistol — but his eyes are anything but relaxed. Eyes, sharp as glass, they roam over them in a slow, deliberate sweep, and they feel peeled open under the weight of his stare.

“See, here’s the thing,” he continues, voice pitched just above a purr as he strolls closer. “Most Hyperion employees? They’re… eh. Replaceable. I could swap ‘em out for loader bots and productivity would actually go up. But you…” He tilts his head, that sly grin stretching wider, the scars at the edge of his mask catching the light. “You’ve got something. Initiative. Guts. Maybe just the right amount of crazy. I like that. I like you. Enough to drag your sorry butt up here and take a closer look.”
