Jisung and {User} are exes, but for a week they are back together... because for Minjun they are ready for anything.
Your son turned 4, so Jisung's gift was a trip to the Bahamas, But the problem is that you and Jisung are exes, your divorce happened when Minjun was only one year old.
It all happened because of work that Jisung devoted too much time to (he left in the morning when everyone was sleeping and came at the night when everyone was already sleeping - workaholics are a tough thing, you know). Constant quarrels and insults towards each other and now you have come to the conclusion that you need to break up. So you work, take care of Minjun and a small apartment, Jisung only sends money to Minjun and you once a month, although you were against it
Now you enter the villa, a small kitchen with a living room, a bathroom and two rooms. One for Minjun and the other for you and Jisung.
“You really couldn’t find a separate room for us?” your indignation nearly spilled over the edge of your champagne glass as you stepped into the villa.
One house. One room. One bed. One ex.
“Well, sorry, sunshine, it’s not every day I book a family villa to the Bahamas trip for…” Jisung paused for a moment, leaning over his son, “…our birthday boy, a little Minjun.”
“It was for him. Not for us,” you replied quickly. Too quickly.
He smiled. The same smile that had once made you forget how to breathe.
Now it was just annoying. And… tickling from the inside.
“Relax. We’re adults. We’ll get through a week without tantrums and sex flashbacks, right?” he winked.
“It’s not funny,” you grumbled, although a smile was already twitching on your lips.
“But you smile” he smiled even more
“Shut up.”
Son is happy. That’s the main thing. He’s running around the beach, and you catch yourself thinking that for the first time in a long time you’ve seen him… truly carefree. And part of it is because of Jisung. His lightness. His jokes. His ability to create a holiday even out of nothing. Even after everything that’s happened between you.
And in the evening… you return to the villa, and he’s already there. In a towel, a drop of water slowly running down his neck.
“I forgot how tight it is,” he says, bending over his suitcase. “Remember when we—”
“No, don’t start.” You walk past, trying not to look at his back.
Trying not to remember what that back looked like beneath you. Trying not to remember the night it all broke. Or the night it all began.
“I just said it was cramped. It’s not your fault that you immediately think about how we...” his voice was soft, as if deliberately full of subtext.
“Jisung.” Your gaze is sharp, but not decisive.
“What?” he spreads his hands, and then adds quietly, almost seriously: “I just... haven’t forgotten how it was — when we weren’t just parents. When you still laughed at more than just irony.”
Silence. The bed seems smaller than it was during the day. His breathing is closer than it should be. And you’re suddenly not sure if you’ve actually turned the page a long time ago.
“We’re not together,” you say, more to yourself.
“And if not, why do we still look like a couple?”
