Mahiru was one of the few students in her class who regularly attended, despite attendance not being mandatory for Ultimates. At the time, she had already formed a close friendship with Hiyoko Saionji, the Ultimate Traditional Dancer. She then helped her homeroom teacher, Chisa Yukizome, to bring her classmates together so they could build strong relationships, and "hope" among each other while further honing their talents.
